Impact of frailty on short-term postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Changes of Anti-tuberculosis Herbs Formula during Past Three Decades in Contrast to Ancient Ones

Objective:To investigate the evolution of herbal medicine in treating tuberculosis(TB)and encourage anti-TB drug discovery and ***:In this study,477 ancient traditional Chinese medicine formulae were collected from the Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescriptions and 172 modern Chinese medicine formulae(from 1986 to 2016)were collected by searching 4 databases:Wan Fang Data Knowledge Service Platform,China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database(CNKI),China Science and Technology Journal Database(VIP)and Chinese Bio-medical Literature and Retrieval System(Sino Med)in *** restricted the search to publications in *** data analysis was done using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Support System version 2 ***:There were 425 herbs in the 477 ancient formulae and 257 herbs in the 172 modern *** of the top 30 herbs were shared by both modern and ancient *** are Radix Ophiopogonis,Astragalus membranaceus,Fritillaria cirrhosa,Dried rehmannia glutinosa,Poria cocos,Angelica sinensis,Prepared rehmannia glutinosa,Platycodon Root,Radix paeoniae alba,Schisandra chinensis,Bighead atractylodes rhizome,Rhizoma anemarrhenae,Cortex lycii radicis and Radix *** two groups of herbs with a high correlation coefficient were found in both modern and ancient prescriptions,the Dried rehmannia glutinosa with Radix ophiopogonis,and Radix ophiopogonis with Prepared rehmannia *** were 9 and 15 core herb combinations in modern and ancient prescriptions,respectively,but no one was found simutaniously in both modern and ancient ***:Although there were wide variations in the herb groups and herb combinations in the formulae,half of the top 30 herbs were found in both modern and ancient *** core herb combinations in modern and ancient prescriptions could help us to improve the priscription for treatment of TB.

Background:Myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)are bone marrow-derived immature heterogeneous myeloid cells and they are morphologically divided into two distinct subsets:monocytic(M)and granulocytic(G)*** have been shown to suppress T cell responses and contribute to the tumor immunosuppressive *** contrast,mouse studies have shown that MDSCs may contribute to autoimmune ***,the role of MDSCs in the pathogenesis of human autoimmune diseases remains relatively poorly ***:To determine the role of MDSCs in the pathogenesis of adult minimal change nephrotic syndrome(MCNS),a disorder of T cell function that accounts for 10-15% of all primary adult nephrotic ***:This study involved 31 adult patients with new onset MCNS identified by renal biopsy pathology and 26healthy controls(HC).The study protocols were approved by the ethics committee of the First Hospital of Jilin *** blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)were isolated by Histopaque1077 and were stained with ***11b/HLADR/CD33/CD14/*** were acquired by BD FACS LSR II and analyzed by using Flowjo *** analysis was performed with GraphPad Prism ***:The percentages of total MDSCs(CD11bHLADRCD33)in PBMCs were significantly increased in patients with MCNS compared to HC(10.82±8.58%vs 2.33±1.22%,p<0.0001),and the percentages of MDSCs were correlated positively with proteinuria(r=0.559,p=0.003).Furthermore,the percentages of both CD14M-MDSCs(4.15±2.75%vs 1.11±0.66%,p<0.0001)and CD66b+G-MDSCs(5.46±1.53%vs 0.92±0.14%,p<0.0001)were significantly higher in MCNS patients than in ***:Compared to HC,PBMCs from patients with MCNS showed significant increase in the percentages of MDSCs,including both M-MDSCs and ***,the proportion of MDSCs in PBMCs were correlated positively with proteinuria in MCNS patients.

CLINICAL VALUE OF SERUM tumor SUPPLIED group OF FACTOR IN DIAGNOSIS OF EPITHELIAL OVARIAN CANCER

Objective: To evaluate the clinical value of serum tumor supplied group of factor (TSGF) in diagnosis of epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods: The serum TSGF was tested in 69 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, 28 patients with benign ovarian lesion and 61 healthy women. The serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and CA125 were determined in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer and in those with benign ovarian lesion. The correlations of TSGF with VEGF and CA125 were investigated. Results: The serum level of TSGF in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer was obviously higher than in patients with benign ovarian lesion and in healthy women (Ptumors and was higher in poorly differentiated tumor. There were no significant difference among diagnostic value of TSGF, VEGF, and CA125 in differentiation between epithelial ovarian cancer and benign ovarian lesion (P>0.05). The serum level of TSGF and VEGF and CA125 in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer showed positive correlation (P<0.01, P<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: There is no marked difference in diagnostic value among TSGF, VEGF and CA125. TSGF has a certain value in diagnosis of epithelial ovarian cancer, and is helpful to distinguish epithelial ovarian cancer from benign ovarian lesion.

Carbon nanotubes targeted to the tumor microenvironment inhibit metastasis in a preclinical model of melanoma

Despite notable progress in cancer therapy,metastatic diseases continue to be the primary cause of cancer-related ***-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)can enter tissues and cells and interfere with the dynamics of the cytoskeletal nanofilaments *** endows them with intrinsic anti-tumoral effects comparable to those of microtubule-binding chemotherapies such as Taxol®.In this study,our focus was on exploring the potential of oxidized MWCNTs in selectively targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor(VEGFR).Our objective was to evaluate their effectiveness in inhibiting metastatic growth by inducing anti-proliferative,anti-migratory,and cytotoxic effects on both cancer and tumor microenvironment *** findings demonstrated a significant reduction of over 80%in malignant melanoma lung metastases and a substantial enhancement in overall animal welfare following intravenous administration of the targeted biodegradable ***,the combination of these nanomaterials with the conventional chemotherapy agent Taxol®yielded a remarkable 90%increase in the antimetastatic *** results highlight the promising potential of this combined therapeutic approach against metastatic disease and are of paramount importance as metastasis is responsible for nearly 60,000 deaths each year.

Distribution and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria isolated from cancer hospital in 2013

Objective： To understand distribution and drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria from a specialized cancer hospital in 2013 in order to provide a basis for rational clinical antimicrobial agents. Methods： Pathogenic bacteria identification and drug sensitivity tests were performed with a VITEK 2 compact automatic identification system and data were analyzed using WHONET5.6 ***： Of the 1,378 strains tested, 980 were Gram-negative bacilli, accounting for 71.1%, in which Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the dominant strains. We found 328 Gram-positive coccus, accounting for 23.8%, in which the amount of Staphylococcus aureus was the highest. We identified 46 fungi, accounting for 4.1%. According to the departmental distribution within the hospital, the surgical departments isolated the major strains, accounting for 49.7%. According to disease types, lung cancer, intestinal cancer and esophagus cancer were the top three, accounting for 20.9%, 17.3% and 14.2%, respectively. No strains were resistant to imipenem, ertapenem or ***： Pathogenic bacteria isolated from the specialized cancer hospital have different resistance rates compared to commonly used antimicrobial agents; therefore antimicrobial agents to reduce the morbidity and mortality of infections should be used.
