Embolic Effects of Bletilla striata Microspheres in Renal Artery and Transplanted VX2 Liver Tumor Model in Rabbits

Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of Bletilla striata microspheres(BSMs) and its effects as an embolic agent in a rabbit model. Methods: BSMs were prepared with an emulsi?cation-cool condensation-chemical cross-linking method. The characteristics of BSMs in vitro were observed. Embolization experiments were performed in renal artery of rabbit and in a rabbit liver VX2 carcinoma model. Seventy-two New Zealand rabbits were divided into 2 groups, and the right renal artery was embolized with BSMs(200 μm in diameter) in the experimental group and with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) of the same size in the control group. The pathological findings were examined with hematoxylin-eosin and Masson stainings. Liver and renal functions were tested before and after ***2 tumor was transplanted in 15 New Zealand rabbits, which were randomly divided into 3 groups(n=5). Group A were treated with saline, group B with a mixture of doxorubicin and lipiodol, and group C with hepatic arterial infusion of BSMs(200 μm in diameter). Tumor growth rate was evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging ***-related factors(bax, bcl-2) and tumor vascular endothelial cell growth factor(VEGF) were evaluated through immunohistochemical staining. Results: The characteristics of BSMs in vitro were in full compliance with the requirements for use in interventional procedures. In the renal artery embolization experiment, after BSMs intervention, it was more dif?cult to form collateral circulation than that with PVAs, and the kidney manifested atrophy and calci?cation. There were no signi?cant difference of liver and renal functions in rabbits between groups. In the liver VX2 carcinoma embolization experiment, compared with group A, the growth rate of VX2 liver tumor and Bcl-2 levels was reduced, while apoptosis index, Bax, and VEGF were increased in group B(P0.05). Seismic response of controlled structures with active multiple tuned mass dampers

Active multiple tuned mass dampers （referred to as AMTMD）, which consist of several active tuned mass dampers （ATMDs） with identical stiffness and damping coefficients but varying mass and control force, have recently been proposed to suppress undesirable oscillations of structures under ground acceleration. It has been shown that the AMTMD can remarkably improve the performance of multiple tuned mass dampers （MTMDs） and is also more effective in reducing structure oscillation than single ATMDs. Notwithstanding this, good performance of AMTMD （including a single ATMD illustrated from frequency-domain analysis） may not necessarily translate into a good seismic reduction behavior in the time-domain. To investigate these phenomena, a three-story steel structure model controlled by AMTMD with three ATMDs was implemented in SIMULINK and subjected to several historical earthquakes. Likewise, the structure under consideration was assumed to have uncertainty of stiffness, such as 4-15% of its initial stiffness, in the numerical simulations. The optimum design parameters of the AMTMD were obtained in the frequency-domain by implementing the minimization of the minimum values of the maximum dynamic magnification factors （DMF） of general structures with AMTMD. For comparison purposes, response analysis of the same structure with a single ATMD was also performed. The numerical analysis and comparison show that the AMTMD generally renders better effectiveness when compared with a single ATMD for structures subjected to historical earthquakes. In particular, the AMTMD can improve the effectiveness of a single ATMD for a structure with an uncertainty of stiffness of 4-15% of its initial stiffness.

Ordering Trees with Nearly Perfect Matchings by Algebraic Connectivity

Let T2k＋1 be the set of trees on 2k＋1 vertices with nearly perfect matchings and α（T） be the algebraic connectivity of a tree T. The authors determine the largest twelve values of the algebraic connectivity of the trees in T2k＋1. Specifically, 10 trees T2,T3,... ,T11 and two classes of trees T（1） and T（12） in T2k＋1 are introduced. It is shown in this paper that for each tree T^′1,T^″1∈T（1）and T^′12,T^″12∈T（12） and each i,j with 2≤i〈j≤11,α（T^′1）=α（T^″1）〉α（Tj）〉α（T^′12）=α（T^″12）.It is also shown that for each tree T with T∈T2k＋1／（T（1）∪{T2,T3,…,T11}∪T（12））,α（T^′12）〉α（T）.

Effect of a bacterial inoculum and additive on dry matter in situ degradability of sugarcane silage

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding a bacterial inoculum and a handmade additive to sugarcane silage（SCS） on the in situ digestibility of dry matter（DM）. The treatments were： T1） sugarcane silage（SCS） and T2） sugarcane silage with 1% inoculum and 1% additive（SCS＋）. The bacterial inoculum consisted of 10.0% molasses, 1.0% yogurt, 5.0% chicken manure, 0.5% urea, and 83.0% water, and the additive was formulated with 1.0% urea, 0.1% ammonium sulfate, and 0.25% phosphorus. In situ dry matter digestibility（DMD） was determined using the nylon bag technique with four cows equipped with ruminal fistulas. Cows were fed with ensiled sugarcane supplemented with 1 kg of commercial concentrate. 5 g of ground sample for each sugarcane treatment were weighted in nylon bags and incubated for 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h in a completely randomized design with six replicates. The DMD（%） was higher（P〈0.05） for SCS＋ for all incubation times when compared with SCS. There were no differences in ruminal p H between the treatments for all the incubation times. The data suggested that the sugarcane silage with bacterial inoculum and additive could be an alternative for providing forage for ruminants during the season of low growth and quality grass.

The Warburg effect is a key metabolic feature of cancer cells and manifests as substantially increased glycolysis regardless of the presence of oxygen[1].The initial step of glycolysis is catalyzed by hexokinase(HK),which converts glucose to the metabolic intermediate glucose-6-phosphate(G-6-P).Four kinds of HK isozymes,HK1,HK2,HK3 and HK4,have been found in ***1 and HK2 bind to the mitochondrial outer membrane through interac-tions with voltage-dependent anion channels(VDACs),and both of thesemolecules have a high affinity for glucose[2].HK2 overexpression is frequently detected in cancer cells,leading to enhanced aerobic glycolysis and tumorigenesis that renders HK2 an attractive target for cancer treatment[3].Important advances in research on cancer metabolism in recent decades have revealed thatmetabolic enzymes have non-metabolic functions,which play pivotal roles in tumor development and progression[4–6].Recent studies uncovered that HK2 directly promoted tumor immune evasion through the activity of a previously unidentified protein kinase and tumor cell stemness via upregulation of CD133 expression.

Telmisartan Attenuates the Growth of Epithelium-like Cells and Glomerular Injury in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats

The abnormal growth of epithelium-like cells has been noticed in spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHRs)with hypertensive ***,the characteristics of abnormal epithelium-like cells and their pathogenesis in hypertensive nephropathy are not fully *** the present study,we investigated the correlation of epithelium-like cells with glomerular injury,and the effects of early drug intervention with telmisartan,an anti-hypertensive drug,on the growth of epithelium-like *** results showed that the epithelium-like cells were obviously observed lining along the luminal surface of Bowman’s capsule in glomeruli,significantly resulting in the atrophy of the glomerular *** of the epithelium-like cells strongly expressed proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)and vimentin,indicating active cellular *** incidence of epithelium-like cells varied from 13.6%to 54.4%of glomeruli in 48-week-old SHRs,and from 5.1%to 18.0%of glomeruli in age-matched Wistar-Kyoto(WKY)rats(P<0.01).The linear regression analysis further confirmed an obvious correlation between the incidence of epithelium-like cells and the glomerular ***,early intervention with telmisartan could dramatically attenuate the progression of epithelium-like cells ***,no significant effect of telmisartan on the established epithelium-like cells was *** together,we demonstrated the involvement of abnormal epithelium-like cells growth in glomerular injury during hypertensive nephropathy in SHRs,and firstly showed the positive effects of the anti-hypertensive drug on the progression of epithelium-like cells growth.

One-step laparoscopic pancreatic necrosectomy verse surgical step-up approach for infected pancreatic necrosis:a case-control study

BACKGROUND:The surgical step-up approach often requires multiple debridements and might not be suitable for infected pancreatic necrosis(IPN)patients with various abscesses or no safe route for percutaneous catheter drainage(PCD).This case-control study aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of one-step laparoscopic pancreatic necrosectomy(LPN)in treating ***:This case-control study included IPN patients undergoing one-step LPN or surgical step-up in our center from January 2015 to December *** short-term and long-term complications after surgery,length of hospital stay,and postoperative ICU stays in both groups were *** and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the risk factors of major complications or ***:A total of 53 IPN patients underwent one-step LPN and 37 IPN patients underwent surgical step-up approach in this *** was no significant difference in the incidence of death,major complications,new-onset diabetes,or new-onset pancreatic exocrine insufficiency between the two ***,the length of hospital stay in the one-step LPN group was significantly shorter than that in the surgical step-up *** regression analysis showed that the surgical approach(one-step/step-up)was not the risk factor for major complications or *** logistic regression analysis indicated that computed tomography(CT)severity index,American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA)class IV,and white blood cell(WBC)were the significant risk factors for major complications or ***:One-step LPN is as safe and effective as the surgical step-up approach for treating IPN patients,and reduces total hospital stay.
