We measured electron temperatures through a hollow cathode-type discharge tube using several different floating probe methods. This method detected a shift in the floating potential when an AC voltage was applied to a probe through an intermediary blocking capacitor. The shift in the floating potential is described as a function of the electron temperature and the applied AC voltage. In this study, the effects of the frequency and waveform on the electron temperatures were systematically investigated. The electron temperature measured when using the floating probe method with applied sinusoidal and triangular voltages was lower than that measured with an applied rectangular *** value in the high frequency range was close to that of the tail electron temperature.

This study presents a novel floating probe method to measure electron temperatures using a hollow cathode-type discharge tube. The proposed method detects a shift in the floating potential when an AC voltage is applied to a probe through an intermediary blocking capacitor. The shift in the floating potential is described as a function of the electron temperature and the applied AC voltage. The floating probe method is simpler than the Langmuir probe method because it does not require the measurement of volt-ampere characteristics. As the input AC voltage increases, the electron temperature converges. The electron temperature measured using the floating probe method with an applied sinusoidal voltage shows a value close to the first （tail） electron temperature in the range of the floating potential.

Unsteady behaviors of the large-scale vortical structure superimposed in the turbulent separated and reattaching flow over a backward-facing step were convincingly delineated by performing simultaneous measurements of the wall pressure fluctuations and visualizations of the flow. Toward this end, a synchronized instrumentation system integrated with the microphone array and the high-speed camera was established. The smoke-wire technique was employed to visualize the unsteady events. A thorough analysis based on the wall pressure fluctuations disclosed that the large-scale vortical structure shedding at the frequency of fH/Uo = 0.064 gave a primary contribution to the wall pressure fluctuations, and consequently dominated unsteady behaviors of the turbulent shear layer. The convection velocity of the large-scale vortical structure was determined as Uc =0.55 U0. The instantaneous flow visualizations and wall pressure were compared in a straightforward manner. Below the separation bubble and the reattachment zone, the negative peak of the time-varying wall pressure was in phase with passage of the local large-scale vortical structure. In the redeveloping turbulent boundary layer, the decaying large-scale vortical structure was clearly revealed.

Vortex breakdown of the steady axisymmetic rotating flow in a confined cylindrical container with a rotating endwall was numerically and experimentally studied. High-quality precision-controlled turntable facilities were established at Shanghai Jiaotong university and tokyo denki university independently. Collaborative investigations of vortex breakdown were carried out using CFD, Laser Doppler Velocimetry （LDV） and streakline visualization, respectively. The characteristics of vortex breakdown were delineated in terms of comparative investigation using numerical and experimental results. SIMPLEC scheme and FMG multigrid was applied to numerical simulation. Numerical simulation was extensively compared with streakline visualization and LDV measurements, showing qualitative and quantitative agreements.

A collaborative investigation of two-fluid mixing in a swirl micro-mixer was carried out by the Shanghai Jiao Tong university and the tokyo denki university. Pure water and a mixture of glycerol and water were separately injected into branch channels and they were subsequently mixed in the central chamber. The two-fluid flow pattern was numerically modeled, in which the dependence of the mixture viscosity and density on the mass fraction of glycerol in the mixing fluid was carefully taken into consideration. The mixing performance of the two fluids was evaluated by varying the Reynolds numbers and the mass fractions of glycerol in water. The mixing process was extensively analyzed using streamline maps and contour plotting distributions of pressure and glycerol concentration. The numerical results show that the acceptable uniformity of mixing at Re = 0.1 is primarily attributed to the time-consuming molecular diffusion, whereas the cost-effective mixing at Re 〉 500 was obtained because of the generation of the swirling flow. The increasing mass fraction of glycerol in water was found to attenuate the mixing performance. The preliminary microscopic visualization of the two-fluid mixing at Re=1300 demonstrated the consistence with the numerical results.

Induction heating adhesion(IHA)methods are useful recycle technique in various equipment constructions and also other adhesive *** this paper,several safety adhesion methods are devised using several magnetic-coil heads wiped on I-, U-,T- and E- type ferrite cores with fitting the heating structures for equipments at～20 kHz *** applicable devices to heat the hot-melt-glue in the equipments are developed by using the intelligent power module.A recyclable adhesive joint of a stainless pipe and a glass board is demonstrated as an example of industrial applications.

The authors have studied the Diels-Alder reactions between furan derivatives and maleimide derivatives in an ionic liquid and have found that higher reactivity can be obtained in a protic ionic liquid [Mim]Tf2N than in the conventional organic solvent. Furthermore, in the Diels-Alder reactions of 2- and 2,5-alkylfurans with N-alkylma- leimide, the reactivity increases by extending the alkyl chain length of N-alkylmaleimide. In addition, it was demon- strated that endo-selectivity increases when 2,5-disubstituted furans are used. These results will be explained by comparing the stability of the Diels-Alder adduct with that of the products obtained from the reactions of 2-substituted furans and 2,5-disubstituted furans.

The Possibility of Active Attitude Control for Fuel Spray

The internal combustion engine (ICE) is an attractive power source for automobiles, with its superior storability, transportability, and suppliability of liquid fuel with high energy density. Compact ICEs with high performance and a low environmental load are greatly needed. In the future, smart active control of combustion by means of fuel spray injection must be considered as a breakthrough technology to address serious issues related to conventional ICEs, such as emissions. A designed fuel injection rate and spray pattern during the injection period have been technically developed, and combustion can be partially controlled in the conventional ICE. However, spatial fuel distribution is not progressing as desired in the field of combustion;thus, new and effective active control technologies for fuel spray are very necessary for the smart control of combustion. Cavitation, flash boiling, spray-to-spray interaction, spray-to-wall interaction, and air flow have potential as a basis for active attitude control of fuel spray. This article uses evidence from the literature to discuss the possibility of active spray attitude control for future fuel spray combustion technology in a smart compact ICE.
