Andrology has a long history in traditional chinese medicine. There are records of male sexual health, male sexual dysfunction and male infertility from over thousands of years ago. Modern andrology in China had a late start, with the chinese Androlo~ Association founded in 1995. Within last decade, andrology in China has grown rapidly. In this review article, we summarized the progress of androlo~ in last 10 years and outlined the current status of chinese andrology with a special focus on progress in male erectile dysfunction, prostate diseases, male infertility and male hormonal contraception.

Acute pancreatitis(AP)is a common acute abdominal condition of the digestive *** recent years,treatment concepts,methods,and strategies for the diagnosis of AP have advanced,and this has played an important role in promoting the standardization of AP diagnosis and treatment and improving the treatment quality of AP *** the basis of previous guidelines and expert consensus,this guideline adopts an evidence-based,problem-based expression;synthesizes important clinical research data at home and abroad in the most recent 5 years;and forms 29 recommendations through multidisciplinary expert discussion,including diagnosis,treatment,and *** is expected to provide evidence support for the treatment of AP in the clinical setting in China.

Optimal dose of zinc supplementation for preventing aluminum-induced neurotoxicity in rats

Zinc supplementation can help maintain learning and memory function in rodents. In this study, we hypothesized that zinc supplementation could antagonize the neurotoxicity induced by aluminum in rats. Animals were fed a diet containing different doses of zinc （50, 100, 200 mg/kg） for 9 weeks, and orally administered aluminum chloride （300 mg/kg daily） from the third week for 7 consecutive weeks. Open-field behavioral test results showed that the number of rearings in the group given the 100 mg/kg zinc supplement was significantly increased compared with the group given the 50 mg/kg zinc supplement. Malondialdehyde content in the cerebrum was significantly decreased, while dopamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine levels were increased in the groups given the diet sup- plemented with 100 and 200 mg/kg zinc, compared with the group given the diet supplemented with 50 mg/kg zinc. The acetylcholinesterase activity in the cerebrum was significantly decreased in the group given the 100 mg/kg zinc supplement. Hematoxylin-eosin staining revealed evident patho- logical damage in the hippocampus of rats in the group given the diet supplemented with 50 mg/kg zinc, but the damage was attenuated in the groups given the diet supplemented with 100 and 200 mg/kg zinc. Our findings suggest that zinc is a potential neuroprotective agent against alumi-num-induced neurotoxicity in rats, and the optimal dosages are 100 and 200 mg/kg.

Previous studies have shown that reduced sleep duration,sleep fragmentation,and decreased sleep quality in patients with Alzheimer's disease are related to dysfunction in orexin *** the same time,blood-brain barrier disruption is considered an early biomarker of Alzheimer's ***,currently no report has examined how changes in orexin signaling relate to changes in the blood-brain barrier of patients who have Alzheimer's disease with sleep *** cross-sectional study included 50 patients with Alzheimer's disease who received treatment in 2019 at Beijing Tiantan *** were divided into two groups:those with insufficient sleep(sleep duration≤6 hours,n=19,age 61.58±8.54 years,10 men)and those with normal sleep durations(sleep duration>6 hours,n=31,age 63.19±10.09 years,18 men).Demographic variables were collected to evaluate cognitive function,neuropsychiatric symptoms,and activities of daily *** levels of orexin,its receptor proteins,and several blood-brain barrier factors were measured in cerebrospinal *** insufficiency was associated with impaired overall cognitive function that spanned multiple cognitive ***,levels of orexin and its receptors were upregulated in the cerebrospinal fluid,and the blood–brain barrier was *** these events precipitated each other and accelerated the progression of Alzheimer's *** findings describe the clinical characteristics and potential mechanism underlying Alzheimer's disease accompanied by sleep *** the upregulation of elements within the orexin system or preventing the breakdown of the blood-brain barrier could thus be targets for treating Alzheimer's disease.

The design of orthopedic biomaterials has gradually shifted from“immune-friendly”to“immunomodulatory,”in which the biomaterials are able to modulate the inflammatory response via macrophage polarization in a local immune microenvironment that favors osteogenesis and implant-to-bone *** the well-known effects of bioactive metallic ions on osteogenesis,how extracellular metallic ions manipulate immune cells in bone tissue microenvironments toward osteogenesis and subsequent bone formation has rarely been ***,we investigate the osteoimmunomodulatory effect of an extracellular bioactive cation(Mg^(2+))in the bone tissue microenvironment using custom-made poly lactic-co-glycolic acid(PLGA)/MgO-alendronate microspheres that endow controllable release of magnesium *** results suggest that the Mg^(2+)-controlled tissue microenvironment can effectively induce macrophage polarization from the M0 to M2 phenotype via the enhancement of anti-inflammatory(IL-10)and pro-osteogenic(BMP-2 and TGF-β1)cytokines *** also generates a favorable osteoimmune microenvironment that facilitates the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem *** in vivo results further verify that a large amount of bony tissue,with comparable bone mineral density and mechanical properties,has been generated at an early post-surgical stage in rat intramedullary bone defect *** study demonstrates that the concept of in situ immunomodulated osteogenesis can be realized in a controlled magnesium tissue microenvironment.
