Numerical modelling of sand beach evolution around coastal structures

A systematic study of waves, nearshore currents and sediment transport related to the coastal evolution of sand beach under the action of wave, has been carried out. On the basis of the re sults, a numerical model of sand beach evolution around coastal structures has been established. To pre dict the bed topography, the sediment transport rates of bedload and suspended load under the action of wave and nearshore current as well as the effects of wave on the sediment are considered. The sand beach evolutions caused by a breakwater and a settled ship near the shore are simulated.

Two continuous cell lines derived from the neoplastic urothelium had been maintained in culture for more than two years. The first cell line derived from the urothelium of a fusion papillocarcinoma on the left lateral wall of the bladder was designated as TBC-1 and grown in vitro for more than 150 generations. The second cell line derived from the urothelium of a papillocarcinoma in the left renal pelvis was designated as TPC-1 and grown in vitro for more than 100 generations. Characterization studies made on both cell lines showed that the cells had a rapid doubling time, exhibited mul-tilayering and produced tumors in sc of BALB / c. Tumor nodules that produced sc of BALB / c kept similar cellular and pathological features to those of the primary biopsy specimens under light and electron microscopes. TPC-1 cell line exhibited a three-dimensional structure of transitional epithelium on the nylon-mesh disk which was coated with a layer of rat tail collagen. Both TBC-1 and TPC-1 cell lines formed colonies

MDR1/P-Glycoprotein Overexpression in Bladder Transitional Cell Carcinoma and its Correlation with Expression of Survivin and Fas

OBJECTIVE To explore the expression of the MDR1/P-glycoprotein, Fas and survivin and to examine their correlation with the biologic behavior of bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC). METHODS Immunohistochemistry was used to examine the expression of P-gp, survivin and Fas in BTCC (n=64) and normal bladder mucosa (n=12). RESULTS The expression level of P-gp and survivin in BTCC was higher compared to normal bladder mucosa (P<0.01) and their expression was strongly correlated with clinical grading (P<0.01). In BTCC and normal bladder mucosa Fas expression was 50% and 100%, respectively (P< 0.01). Recurrent BTCC showed higher expression than primary BTCC (P< 0.01) and the expression of P-gp in BTCC had a reverse correlation with Fas expression but no correlation with survivin expression. CONCLUSUON The MDR of BTCC was strongly correlated with the ex- pression of P-gp and Fas, but was not correlated with survivin expres- sion. Thus, enhancing cancer sensitivity to chemotherapy by reversing multidrug resistance with reversal agents or up-regulating Fas expres- sion by apoptotic enhancing agents, might be a potential therapy to pre- vent tumor recurrence and invasiveness.

The Synergistic Effect of HT and Complement Regulatory Proteins in Resisting the Immunological Rejection of Heterogenic Transplantation

Objective：To establish the polytransgenic mice expressing the human HT and complement regulatory proteins （CRPs） and discuss their ability to resist the hyperacute rejection （HAR） and delayed xenograft rejection （DXR） of heterogenic transplantation. Methods ：Transgenic mice were produced by microinjection to construct gene for human HT, delay acceleration factor （DAF） and/or CD59 into the male pronucleus of zygote. PCR and Southern blot were used to screen the positive trarisgenic mice. Flow cytometry （FCM） was used to detect the expression of HT, ct-Gal and DAF or CD59 on the PBMCs of transgenic mice. The survival time and function of the heart of transgenic mice were determined by a modified Langendorff cardiac perfusion apparatus： The change of proteinosis on IgM,IgG, C3c and C9 from different cardiac vascular iendothelial cells of transgenic mice were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results：HT, DAF or CD59 were highly expressed on the positive transgenic mice by FCM. The deposition of IgM,IgG,C3c or C9 in the cardiac vascular endothelial cells of the positive transgenic mice were de- creased. The survival time and function of the heart of the co-transgenic mice with AB serum perfusion were significantly longer and higher than that of the single HT positive transgenic mice（P 〈0.05）. Conclusion ：The mice co-expressing HT/DAF or HT/CD59 could resist the HAR,which was better than those expressing HT alone. It is feasible to use HT and CRPs co-transgenic methods to resist the HAR and DXR.

Wave-Front Aberrations of Cornea and Crystalline Lens

The aberrations for anterior corneal surface, posterior corneal surface and complete eyes are measured and calculated. The aberrations for the crystalline lens are obtained by subtracting the aberrations in cornea from that in complete eyes. It is shown that the combination between the crystalline lens and the cornea can be either a compensatory or an additive process. The combination between the anterior and the posterior corneal surfaces on the aberrations is complicated, compensatory or additive. The anterior corneal surface contributes mainly lower-order aberrations （astigmatism） of images, while the posterior corneal surface and the crystalline lens contribute mainly higher-order aberrations.

BACKGROUND Increasing evidence have shown that regional lymph node metastasis is a critical prognostic factor in gastric cancer(GC).In addition,lymph node dissection is a key factor in determining the appropriate treatment for ***,the association between the number of positive lymph nodes and area of lymph node metastasis in GC remains *** To investigate the clinical value of regional lymph node sorting after radical gastrectomy for *** This study included 661 patients with GC who underwent radical gastrectomy at tianjin Medical University General Hospital between January 2012 and June *** patients were divided into regional sorting and non-sorting *** data were collected and retrospectively reviewed to determine the differences in the total number of lymph nodes and number of positive lymph nodes between the *** sample t-tests were used for intergroup *** variables that did not conform to a normal distribution were expressed as median(interquartile range),and the Mann-Whitney U test was used for inter-group *** There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of the surgical method,tumor site,immersion depth,and degree of *** total number of lymph nodes was significantly higher in the regional sorting group(n=324)than in the non-sorting group(n=337)(32.5 vs 21.2,P<0.001).There was no significant difference in the number of positive lymph nodes between the two groups.A total of 212 patients with GC had lymph node metastasis in the lymph node regional sorting group,including 89(41.98%)cases in the first dissection station and 123(58.02%)cases in the second dissection *** and multivariate logistic regression results showed that the number of positive lymph nodes(P<0.001)was an independent risk factor for lymph node metastases at the second dissection *** Regional sorting of lymph nodes after radical gastrectomy

Correlation between Post-LASIK Starburst Symptom and Ocular Wavefront Aberrations

Monochromatic aberrations in post laser in-situ keratomileusis （LASIK） eyes are measured. The data are categorized into reference group and starburst group according to the visual symptoms. Statistic analysis has been made to find the correlation between the ocular wavefront aberrations and the starburst symptom. The rms aberrations of the 3rd and 4th orders for the starburst group are significantly larger than those for the reference group. The starburst symptom shows a strong correlation with vertical coma, total coma, spherical aberrations. For 3-mm pupil size and 5.8-mm pupil size, the modulation transfer function （MTF） of the starburst group are lower than those of the reference group, but their visual acuities are close. MTF and PSF analyses are made for two groups, and the results are consistent with the statistical analysis, which means the difference between the two groups is mainly due to the third- and fourth-order Zernike aberrations.

Measurements of AIM for Visible Wavelength Based on Individual Eye Model

We measure and calculate the aerial image modulation （AIM） of human retina for visible wavelengths based on the individual eye model. By employing the optical design software ZEMAX, we obtain the modulation transfer function （MTF） of human eye in visible wavelengths. Using CSV-1000 and VAF-1000, the contrast sensitivity function （CSF） and the visual acuity （VA） for the same eye are measured. Then the AIM of human retina could be acquired by the relations between MTF and CSF and between MTF and VA. The AIM of human retina is independent of MTF, and the values of AIM for normal eyes （without retina disease） are similar, so the assembly average for large numbers of normal eyes can be a standard AIM curve, which is helpful for the diagnosis of diseases in the retina system.

AIM:To investigate the effect of retinoblastoma protein-interacting zinc finger gene 1(RIZ1)upregulation in gene expression profile and oncogenicity of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)cell line ***:TE13 cells were transfected with pcDNA3.1(+)/RIZ1 and pcDNA3.1(+).Changes in gene expression profile were screened and the microarray results were confirmed by reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Nude mice were inoculated with TE13 cells to establish ESCC *** two weeks,the inoculated mice were randomly divided into three *** were injected with normal saline,transfection reagent pcDNA3.1(+)and transfection reagent pcDNA3.1(+)/RIZ1,*** development was quantified,and changes in gene expression of RIZ1 transfected tumors were detected by RT-PCR and Western ***:DNA microarray data showed that RIZ1transfection induced widespread changes in gene expression profile of cell line TE13,with 960 genes upregulated and 1163 *** of tumor xenografts with RIZ1 recombinant plasmid significantly inhibited tumor growth,decreased tumor size,and increased expression of RIZ1 mRNA compared to control *** changes in gene expression profile were also observed in vivo after RIZ1 *** of the differentially expressed genes were associated with cell development,supervision of viral replication,lymphocyte costimulatory and immune system development in esophageal ***1 gene may be involved in multiple cancer pathways,such as cytokine receptor interaction and transforming growth factor beta ***:The development and progression of esophageal cancer are related to the inactivation of *** infection may also be an important factor.
