The Formation and Evolution of Uvarovite in UHP Serpentinite and Rodingite and its Constraints on Chromium Mobility in the Oceanic Subduction Zone

The uvarovite-andradite and uvarovite-andradite-grossular solid-solution series are rare in *** discovery of uvarovite-andradite in serpentinite and rodingite from the ultra-high pressure(UHP)metamorphic belt in southwestern Tianshan provided an opportunity to investigate its behavior in the subduction ***(defined as chromiumgarnet)from serpentinite is homogeneous in a single grain,covering compositions in the uvarovite-andradite solid solution series of Adr_(58-66)Uv_(33-41),with few grossular *** from rodingites contain various Cr_(2)O_(3) contents(1.7-17.9 wt%)and mineral compositions being in the range of Adr_(21-31)Uv_(41-50)Grs_(22-37),Adr_(52-90)Uv_(5-25)Grs_(0-21) and Adr_(19-67)Uv_(3-63)Grs_(13-42).Discontinuous chemical variation of uvarovite from core to rim indicates that uvarovite formed by consuming andradite and chromite,which could provide Ca,Cr,Al and *** signals of water were identified for uvarovite from both serpentinite and rodingite,with high water content in uvarovite from *** high pressure mineral assemblage,as well as the association with perovskite,indicated that the studied uvarovite from serpentinite and rodingite was formed through high pressure metamorphism,during the subduction zone serpentinization and *** alkaline and highly reduced fluids released from serpentinization or rodingitization in the oceanic subduction zone promote the mobility of chromium and enable its long-distance migration.

Zircon U-Pb ages and provenance characteristics of the Zhiluo Formation sandstones and the formation background of the uranium deposit in Huangling area,Ordos Basin,China

The newly discovered medium-scale Huangling uranium deposit is located in the Shuanlong area of the southeast Ordos *** paper presents the systematic geochemical and zircon U-Pb studies on the Zhiluo Formation sandstones in the Huanling *** data obtained play an important role in deducing the provenance and tectonic setting of the source *** results show that the lower part of the Zhiluo Formation is mainly composed of felsic sedimentary *** source rocks originated from a continental island arc environment in terms of tectonic setting.U-Pb ages of detrital zircons obtained can be roughly divided into three groups:170‒500 Ma,1600‒2050 Ma,and 2100‒2650 *** on the characteristics of trace elements and rare earth elements(REE)and the zircon U-Pb dating results,it is considered that the Cryptozoic Edo provenance of the Zhiluo Formation mainly includes magmatic rocks(such as granodioritic intrusions)and metamorphic rocks(such as gneiss and granulite)in the orogenic belts on the northern margin of the North China Plate and in the Alxa *** on sedimentological and petrological results,it can be concluded that the provenance of clastic sediments in the Zhiluo Formation was in north-south *** preconcentration of uranium is relatively low in the Lower Zhiluo Formation in the Huangling ***,the paleocurrent system in the sedimentary period is inconsistent with the ore-bearing flow field in the mineralization period,which restricts the formation of large-scale and super-large-scale uranium deposits and ore zones in the southeast Ordos *** understanding of provenance directions will provide crucial references for the Jurassic prototype recovery and paleo-geomorphology of the Ordos Basin and the prediction of potential uranium reservoirs of the basin.

A New Criterion for Defining Inhomogeneous Slope Failure Using the Strength Reduction Method

A new variational method treating the system as a whole with rigorous mathematical and physical derivation was presented in this *** with classical and engineering examples,variational energy expressions of slopes were *** addition,the calculation programs were written in the FISH language set in FLAC3D(fast Lagrangian analysis of continua in three dimensions)*** of safety(FOSs)of the models were determined by the variational method based on the strength reduction method(SRM)and then compared with other criteria or *** result showed that the variational method reflected the process of slope plasticity and failure uniformly and was feasible to analyze the stability of inhomogeneous *** method was applicable to both two-dimensional and three-dimensional heterogeneous *** small error with other criteria or methods also showed the accuracy of this *** method unified other criteria,avoided the artificial error of other criteria,and provided a logical derivation for the instability of heterogeneous *** method considered the system as a whole and avoided the shortcomings of the general method of one-sided instability *** proposed method is of great significance as it considers the coupling effect of stress and strain of materials and gives the mechanical basis for the instability of complex slopes.

Fluid Evolution and Ore-forming Processes of the Jiama Cu Deposit, Tibet： Evidence from Fluid Inclusions

The Jiama deposit is a large copper deposit in Tibet. Mineralization occurs in three different host rocks： skarn, hornfels and porphyry. A detailed fluid inclusion study was conducted for veins in the different host rocks to investigate the relationship between fluid evolution and ore-forming processes. Based on examination of cores from 36 drill holes, three types of veins （A, B and D） were identified in the porphyries, four types （I, II, III and IV） in the skarn, and three （a, b and c） in the hornfels. The crosscutting relationships of the veins and that of the host rocks suggest two hydrothermal stages, one early and one late stage. Fluid inclusions indicate that the Jiama hydrothermal fluid system underwent at least two episodes of fluid boiling. The first boiling event occurred during the early hydrothermal stage, as recorded by fluid inclusions hosted in type A veins in the porphyries, type a veins in the hornfels, and wollastonite in the skarns. This fluid boiling event was associated with relatively weak mineralization. The second boiling event occurred in the late hydrothermal stage, as determined from fluid inclusions hosted in type B and D veins in the porphyries, type I to IV veins in the skarns, and type b and c veins in the hornfels. This late boiling event, together with mixing with meteoric water, was responsible for more than 90% of the metal accumulation in the deposit. The first boiling only occurred in the central part of the deposit and the second boiling event took place across an entire interlayered structural zone between hornfels and marble. A spatial zoning of ore-elements is evident, and appears to be related to different migration pathways and precipitation temperatures of Cu, Mo, Pb, Zn, Au and Ag.

China established Xiong’an New Area in Hebei Province in 2017,which is planned to accommodate about 5 million people,aiming to relieve Beijing City of the functions non-essential to its role as China’s capital and to expedite the coordinated development of the Beijing-tianjin-Hebei *** 2017 to 2021,the China geological survey(cgs)took the lead in multi-factor urban geological surveys involving space,resources,environments,and disasters according to the general requirements of“global vision,international standards,distinctive Chinese features,and future-oriented goals”in Xiong’an New Area,identifying the engineering geologic conditions and geologic environmental challenges of this *** achievements also include a 3D engineering geological structure model for the whole area,along with“one city proper and five clusters”,insights into the ecology and the background endowment of natural resources like land,geothermal resources,groundwater,and wetland of the area before engineering construction,a comprehensive monitoring network of resources and environments in the area,and the“Transparent Xiong’an”geological information platform that is open,shared,dynamically updated,and three-dimensionally ***’s geologists and urban geology have played a significant role in the urban planning and construction of Xiong’an New Area,providing whole-process geological solutions for urban planning,construction,operation and *** future urban construction of Xiong’an New Area will necessitate the theoretical and technical support of earth system science(ESS)from various aspects,and the purpose is to enhance the resilience of the new type of city and to provide support for the green,low-carbon,and sustainable development of this area.

Regional gravity survey and application in oil and gas exploration in China

Ground gravity survey for regional structure unit delineation and oil and gas exploration in China is addressed in this paper with examples. Gravity survey scales, coverage, technical regulations and achievements at the national level are introduced, including data processing and anomaly interpretation techniques. Bouguer anomalies of terrestrial territories of China and classification of anomalous feature zones are also described;they are well correlated with lithotectonical boundaries, fault zones, and unexposed igneous plutons. Recent study results of petroliferous sedimentary basins are presented as well, including concealed boundaries and major structures of large basins. It is concluded that gravity survey is the most effective and economic method in unveiling unexposed and deep-seated structures, targeting and delineating oil and gas-bearing sedimentary basins, and locating main trap structures within prolific basins in early stage of exploration in China. Suggestions for improving exploration of both conventional and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs in China are also given in the paper.

Two New Species of Protocedroxylon Gothan(Pinaceae) from the Middle Jurassic of Eastern Inner Mongolia, NE China

Two new coniferous wood taxa, Protocedroxylon zhangii sp. nov. and P. zhalantunense sp. nov., are described from the Middle Jurassic Wanbao Formation in Zhalantun City, Inner Mongolia, NE China. The new discovery represents the first record of petrified wood in the Wanbao Formation, and contributes to further understanding the floral composition, especially that of the forest, of the Wanbao Formation. Anatomically, the two new species are characterized by having a mixed type of radial pitting and Abietineentüpfelung. In extant conifers, Abietineentüpfelung is considered to be characteristic of the wood of Pinaceae. The new discovery further indicates that the first occurrence of Abietineentüpfelung in conifer-like wood should be earlier than the Kimmeridgian. The palaeolatitudinal distribution pattern of Protocedroxylon indicates that the genus is a palaeobiogeographically consistent group, which was probably restricted to wetter and cooler temperate climates. In combination with distinct growth rings, the occurrence of Protocedroxylon suggests that a cool temperate and seasonal climate might have prevailed during the sedimentation period of the Wanbao Formation in eastern Inner Mongolia, NE China. Such a view is also in agreement with the palaeoclimatic conditions indicated by the plant megafossils of the Wanbao Formation.

Geochronology and Geochemistry of Late Devonian I- and A-Type Granites from the Xing’an Block,NE China:Implications for Slab Break-off during Subduction of the Hegenshan-Heihe Ocean

We present detailed geochronological,geochemical,and zircon Hf isotopic data for Late Paleozoic granitic rocks from Handagai and Zhonghe plutons in the Xing’an Block,NE China,aiming to provide constraints on their origin and tectonic *** zircon U-Pb ages indicate they were formed in the Late Devonian(ca.379 Ma) immediately after a striking 50 Ma magmatic lull(ca.430-380 Ma) in the Xing ’ an *** and geochemical features suggest that the Handagai monzogranites and Zhonghe alkali-feldspar granites are I- and A-type granites,respectively,although both of them have high-K calc-alkaline features and positive zircon ε_(Hf)(t) values(+3.47 to +10.77).We infer that the Handagai monzogranites were produced by partial melting of juvenile basaltic crustal materials under a pressure of <8-10 kbar,whereas the Zhonghe alkali-feldspar granites were generated by partial melting of juvenile felsic crustal materials at shallower depths(P ≤ 4 kbar).Our results,together with published regional data,indicate their generation involves a subduction-related extensional *** break-off of the Hegenshan-Heihe oceanic plate may account for the subduction-related extensional setting,as well as the transformation of arc magmatism from the Early-Middle Devonian lull to the Late Devonian-Early Carboniferous flare-up in the Xing’an Block.

The Hot Dry Rock(HDR)is considered as a clean and renewable energy,poised to significantly contribute to the global energy decarbonization *** HDR projects worldwide have accumulated valuable experience in efficient drilling and completion,reservoir construction,and fracture *** 2019,China geological survey(cgs)initiated a demonstration project of HDR exploration and production in the Gonghe Basin,aiming to overcome the setbacks faced by HDR *** the ensuing four years,the Gonghe HDR project achieved the first power generation in 2021,followed by the second power generation test in *** establishing the primary well group in the initial phase,two directional wells and one branch well were *** progress was made in successfully constructing the targeted reservoir,realizing inter-well connectivity,power generation and grid connection,implementing of the real-time micro-seismic monitoring.A closed-loop technical validation of the HDR exploration and production was ***,many technical challenges remain in the process of HDR industrialization,such as reservoir fracture network characterization,efficient drilling and completion,multiple fracturing treatment,continuous injection and production,as well as mitigation of induced seismicity and numerical simulation technology.
