B vitamins are enzyme cofactors that play an important role in energy *** aim of this study was to elucidate whether B vitamin administration can reduce body weight(BW)gain by improving energy metabolism-related enzyme activities in rats fed on a highfat *** rats were randomly assigned to one of the following five groups:control group(C),including rats fed on standard rat chow;four treatment groups(H0,H1,H2,and H3),in which rats were fed on a high-fat *** in the H1 group were treated daily with 100 mg/kg BW thiamine(VB1),100 mg/kg BW riboflavin(VB2),and 250 mg/kg BW niacin(VPP);rats in the H2 group were treated daily with 100 mg/kg BW pyridoxine(VB6),100 mg/kg BW cobalamin(VB12),and 5 mg/kg BW folate(FA);and rats in the H3 group were treated daily with all of the B vitamins administered to the H1 and H2 *** 12 weeks,the BW gains from the initial value were 154.5±58.4 g and 159.1±53.0 g in the H1 and C groups,respectively,which were significantly less than the changes in the H0 group(285.2±14.8 g,P〈0.05).In the H0 group,the plasma total cholesterol(CHO)and triglyceride(TG)levels were 1.59±0.30 mmol/L and 1.55±0.40 mmol/L,respectively,which were significantly greater than those in the H1 group(1.19±0.18 mmol/L and 0.76±0.34 mmol/L,respectively,P〈0.05).The activities of transketolase(TK),glutathione reductase,and Na^+/K^+adenosine triphosphatase were significantly increased in the B vitamin-treated groups and were significantly greater than those in the H0 group(P〈0.05).Furthermore,the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase,pyruvic acid kinase,and succinate dehydrogenase activities also were increased after treatment with B *** with B vitamins could effectively reduce BW gain and plasma levels of lipids by improving energy metabolism-related enzyme activities in rats,thus possibly providing potential benefits to humans.

BACKGROUND Cardioneuroablation(CNA)has shown encouraging results in patients with vasovagal syncope(VVS).However,data on different subtypes was *** This observational study retrospectively enrolled 141 patients[mean age:40±18 years,51 males(36.2%)]with the diagnosis of *** characteristics among different types of VVS and the outcomes after CNA were *** After a mean follow-up of 4.3±1.5 years,41 patients(29.1%)experienced syncope/pre-syncope events after ***/pre-syncope recurrence significantly differed in each subtype(P=0.04).The cardioinhibitory type of VVS had the lowest recurrence rate after the procedure(n=6,16.7%),followed by mixed(n=26,30.6%)and vasodepressive(n=9,45.0%).Additionally,a significant difference was observed in the analyses of the Kaplan-Meier survival curve(P=0.02).Syncope/pre-syncope burden was significantly reduced after CNA in the vasodepressive type(P<0.01).Vasodepressive types with recurrent syncope/pre-syncope after CNA have a lower baseline deceleration capacity(DC)level than those without(7.4±1.0 ms vs.9.0±1.6 ms,P=0.01).Patients with DC<8.4 ms had an 8.1(HR=8.1,95%CI:2.2-30.0,P=0.02)times risk of syncope/pre-syncope recurrence after CNA compared to patients with DC≥8.4 ms,and this association still existed after adjusting for age and sex(HR=8.1,95%CI:2.2-30.1,P=0.02).CONCLUSIONS Different subtypes exhibit different event-free *** vasodepressive type exhibited the lowest event-free rate,but those patients with DC≥8.4 ms might benefit from CNA.

Objective To evaluate the anti-tumor effect and toxicity of gemcitabine combined with platinum chemotherapy on recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods Phase Ⅱ study of gemcitabine combined with platinum chemotherapy was carried out in 22 patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. Median age of patients was 50. 5 years old. Seven patients were platinum-sensitive and 15 patients were platinum-resistant or -refractory. All patients received gemcitabine combined with carboplatin or oxa/iplatin chemotherapy. Patients＇ response rate （RR） and toxicity of gemcitabine combined with platinum chemotherapy were evaluated. Results A total of 98 gemcitabine-based chemotherapy cycles were performed. Total RR was 36. 4%, RR of platinum-sensitive patients was 4/7 and platinum-resistant and -refractory patients was 4/15. The estimated median survival time was 10.0 months （95% CI. 7.0-13.0） after initiation of gemcitabine combined with platinum chemotherapy. There was no significant difference in survival time between platinum-resistant/refractory group and platinum-sensitive group （P = 0. 061 ）. Side effects of gemcitabine combined with platinum chemotherapy were observed in 81.8% of patients. Grade Ⅱ/Ⅲ anemia （54. 5% ） and grade Ⅲ/Ⅳ neutropenia （54. 5% ） were most common toxicities. Ten （45.5%） patients had to delay their chemotherapy cycles or reduce the dose of chemotherapeutic drugs because of the severe side effects. Fourteen （63.6%） patients received granulocyte colony-stimulating factor to relieve neutropenia, and 8 （ 36. 4% ） patients received component blood transfusion to treat anemia or thrombocytopenia. There was no treatment-associated death. Conclusion Gemcitabine combined with platinum chemotherapy appears to be an effective and well-tolerant treatment for recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, including platinum-resistant or -refractory diseases.

Ten-year Time-trend Analysis of Dyslipidemia Among Adults in Wuhan

Objective Dyslipidemia is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease,the major cause of death in an aging *** study aimed to estimate the prevalence of dyslipidemia for the past decade among adults in Wuhan,*** We performed a serial cross-sectional study that recruited 705219 adults from the Health Management Center of Tongji hospital,Tongji medical college,Huazhong University of Science and Technology from 2010 to *** diagnosis of dyslipidemia was based on the 2016 Chinese Guidelines for the Management of Dyslipidemia in *** effects and random effects models were applied to adjust the confounding variables(gender and age).Results The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia was 33.1%(46.2%in men and 14.7%in women)in *** prevalence of dyslipidemia was significantly increased over 10 years[from 28.6%(95%CI:28.2%–29.1%)in 2010 to 32.8%(95%CI:32.6%–33.1%)in 2019;.P<0.001],especially for hypo-high-density lipoprotein cholesterolemia[from 18.4%(95%CI:18.0%–18.8%)in 2010 to 24.5%(95%CI:24.3%–24.7%)in 2019;P<0.001].In 2019,the prevalence of dyslipidemia was higher in participants with comorbidities,including overweight/obesity,hypertension,diabetes,hyperuricemia,or chronic kidney disease,and dyslipidemia was the most significant among participants aged 30–39 *** This study demonstrated that dyslipidemia is on the rise in men,and more emphasis should be provided for the screening of dyslipidemia in young males for the primary prevention of cardiovascular and renal diseases.

Effect and Underlying Mechanism of Bu-Shen-An-Tai Recipe on Ovarian Apoptosis in Mice with Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation Implantation Dysfunction

The effect and underlying mechanism of Bu-Shen-An-Tai recipe on ovarian apoptosis in mice with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation(COH) implantation dysfunction were studied. The COH implantation dysfunction model in mice was established by intraperitoneal injection of 7.5 IU pregnant mare’s serum gonadotrophin(PMSG), followed by 7.5 IU human chorionic gonadotrophin(HCG) 48 h later. Then the female mice were mated with male at a ratio of 2:1 in the same cage at 6:00 p.m. The female mice from normal group were injected intraperitoneally with normal saline and mated at the corresponding time. Day 1 of pregnancy was recorded by examining its vaginal smears at 8:00 a.m. of the next day. Fifty successfully pregnant mice were equally randomly divided into 5 groups: normal control pregnant group(NC), COH implantation dysfunction model group(COH), low dosage of Bu-Shen-An-Tai recipe group(LOW), middle dosage of Bu-Shen-An-Tai recipe group(MID) and high dosage of Bu-Shen-An-Tai recipe group(HIGH). Then from day 1, the mice in different groups were respectively intragastrically given corresponding treatments at 9:00 a.m. for 5 consecutive days. The concentrations of 17β-estradiol(E) and progesterone(P) were determined by radioimmunoassay(RIA). The ultrastructural changes of ovarian tissues were observed by transmission electron microscope(TEM). The histopathological changes of ovarian tissues were observed by HE staining. The number of atretic follicles and pregnant corpus luteum were also recorded. TUNEL was applied to measure apoptotic cells of ovarian tissues. Western blotting was used to detect the protein expression of apoptosis-related factors like Bax, Bcl-2 and cleaved-caspase-3 in ovarian tissue of mice. The results showed that ovarian weight, the concentrations of Eand P, the number of atretic follicles and pregnant corpus luteum, as well as the apoptosis of granulosa cells were significantly increased in the COH group. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)is one of the most lethal cancers *** this study,we aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of metastasis inhibition by miR-205 in *** microRNA(miRNA)array and quantitative RT-PCR analyses,we found that the expression level of miR-205 was significantly lower in patients with lymph node metastasis compared with that in patients without lymph node *** transfection of miR-205 mimics or inhibitors into ESCC cell lines,a significant negative correlation was observed between the expression level of miR-205 and *** luciferase reporter assays,we revealed that miR-205 inhibited the expression of SMAD1 by targeting the 30untranslated region(30-UTR)of SMAD1 mRNA in ESCC ***,our results showed that miR-205 suppressed the invasion and migration of ESCC cells,whereas Smad1 increased their invasion and *** together,our study demonstrates that miR-205 functions as a suppressor of tumor metastasis by regulating SMAD1expression through targeting the 30-UTR of SMAD1 mRNAin ***,miR-205 may be a potential therapeutic target for miRNA-based therapy of ESCC.
