Effectiveness of traditional chinese medicine nursing intervention on constipation and anxiety in chemotherapy

Background:In a study conducted from March to September 2021,124 cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at our hospital were divided into two *** control group received routine inpatient nursing care,while the observation group received Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)nursing interventions in addition to routine *** analysis was conducted to compare the incidence of clinical adverse reactions,constipation scores,and changes in anxiety levels between the two *** results showed that the observation group,receiving TCM nursing interventions,had lower incidence of clinical adverse reactions and lower constipation scores compared to the control ***,anxiety levels were found to decrease significantly in the observation group *** findings suggest that incorporating TCM nursing interventions in the care of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy may help in reducing the occurrence of adverse reactions,alleviating constipation,and managing anxiety *** research is needed to explore the full potential of integrating TCM into conventional nursing care for cancer ***:Following interventions,both groups experienced varying degrees of clinical adverse reactions,with the observation group demonstrating a significantly lower total incidence(29.03%)compared to the control *** disparity was statistically significant(P<0.05).Furthermore,improvements were observed in defecation time(0.53±0.18)points and defecation frequency(1.17±0.25)points *** findings suggest that the intervention had a positive impact on reducing adverse reactions and improving defecation ***:In a recent study,researchers found that individuals in the observation group experienced lower levels of difficulty with defecation and had a more regular defecation form compared to those in the control *** results showed a significant difference in defecation difficulty and form,with the observation g

BACKGROUND:Heatstroke has become a common emergency event in ***(PCT)is used as a biomarker of infection in the emergency department(ED),but its role in rhabdomyolysis(RM)following exertional heatstroke(EHS)remains ***:A retrospective cohort study enrolled patients with EHS from the intensive care unit(ICU).We collected RM biomarkers,inflammation markers,critical disease scores at admission,24 h,48 h,and discharge,and 90-day *** analysis,linear regression and curve fi tting were used to identify the relationship between PCT and ***:A total of 162 patients were recruited and divided into RM(n=56)and non-RM(n=106)*** was positively correlated with myoglobin(Mb),acute hepatic injury,disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC),Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(SOFA)score,and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II(APACHE II)score,with correlation coefficients of 0.214,0.237,0.285,0.454,and 0.368,respectively(all P<0.05).Interestingly,the results of curve fi tting revealed a nonlinear relationship between PCT and RM,and a two-piecewise linear regression model showed that PCT was related to RM with an odds ratio of 1.3 and a cut-off of<4.6 ng/*** analysis revealed that RM was associated with higher mortality compared to non-RM cases(P=0.0093).CONCLUSION:High serum PCT concentrations are associated with RM after EHS in critically ill *** PCT concentrations should be interpreted cautiously in patients with EHS in the ED.

Dear Editor,Gliomas are the most prevalent malignant tumors affecting the central nervous system (CNS), categorized into low-grade gliomas (LGG) comprising CNS WHO grades 2–3, and high-grade gliomas(HGG) encompassing CNS WHO grade 4(Aldape et al., 2015). The current standard therapeutic approach involves maximal safe margin excision followed by radiotherapy and temozolomide (TMZ)treatment (Armstrong et al., 2020).However, due to the unique site and microenvironment of gliomas, patients experience limited benefits from emerging revolutionary therapies such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy (Sampson et al., 2020; Yang et al., 2022).

Herein we report a patient with nephroblastoma which was successfully removed at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital CJ Oppong theatre in Ghana in sub-Saharan Africa by extended below umbilical incision. Our patient had a family history of Wilms tumour predisposing him to the disease. His main symptoms were haematuria and abdominal mass which was noticed later. Examination and investigation were suggestive of a late-stage unilateral Nephroblastoma resulting in the need for nephrectomy. To reduce the need for such radical surgeries among children at an early stage, there is the need for early screening of children for Wilms tumours especially, those with family predisposition as in our case study. The case report presented here constitutes a rare case of nephroblastoma in the literature.

Anticancer platinum prodrugs that can be controllably activated are highly desired for personalized precision medicine and patient compliance in cancer ***,the clinical application of platinum(Ⅳ)prodrugs(Pt(Ⅳ))is restricted by tissue penetration of external ***,we report a novel Pt(Ⅳ)activation strategy based on endogenous luminescence of tumor microenvironment responsiveness,which completely circumvents the limitation of external *** designed Pt(Ⅳ)–Lu,a mixture of trans,trans,trans-[Pt(N_(3))_(2)(OH)_(2)(py)_(2)]and luminol(Lu),has controllable activation property:it remains inert in reductant environment and normal tissues,but under tumor microenvironment,Lu will be oxidized to produce blue luminescence,which rapidly reduce Pt(Ⅳ)to Pt(Ⅱ)without the need of any external ***(Ⅳ)–Lu shows excellent responsive antitumor ability both in vitro and in *** to cisplatin,the median lethal dose in BALB/c mice increased by an order of *** results suggest that Pt(Ⅳ)–Lu exhibits highly controllable activation property,superior antitumor activity,and good biosafety,which may provide a novel strategy for the design of platinum prodrugs.

Effectiveness of Music-Based Therapeutic Intervention on People with Dementia: A Rapid Review

Background: Dementia is a condition with progressive cognitive dysfunction and manifestation of both behavioral and psychosocial symptoms. Non-pharmacological measures such as music therapy are gaining importance since efficacy and safety of people with dementia have been questionable for pharmacological measures. Patient’s response to music is persistent even in the later stage of dementia. Aim: This rapid review aims to identify, analyze, evaluate, and summarize the best available evidence on the effectiveness of music-based therapeutic interventions among people with dementia. Method: CINAHL Cochrane Library, internet websites of rapid review producers, and reference lists were searched to identify articles for inclusion. Two reviewers independently screened the literature search results. Effectiveness, music-based therapeutic intervention, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, systematic review and systematic review with meta-analysis terms were used to abstract data from included studies. Main Findings: 11 SRs and SRs with meta-analysis were reviewed which revealed positive effect of music therapy on five major outcomes with 9 studies effect on behavioral outcome, 6 studies with positive effect on psychosocial outcome reducing anxiety, 6 with improved cognition, 1 study revealed with improved quality of life and 1 study revealed effect on physiological outcomes. Conclusion: Music therapy has positive effect on treatment of dementia but further studies with larger sample size and specified to single intervention should be conducted to provide generalisable and precise results on this topic.

A nomogram based on lymphocyte percentage for predicting hospital mortality in exertional heatstroke patients: a 13-year retrospective study

BACKGROUND: Exertional heatstroke(EHS) is a life-threatening disease without ideal prognostic markers for predicting hospital ***: This is a single-center retrospective study. Clinical data from EHS patients admitted to the Intensive Care unit(ICU) of the General Hospital of Southern theatre Command between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2020, were recorded and analyzed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify the factors for mortality. The prediction model was developed with the prognostic markers, and a nomogram was ***: The study ultimately enrolled 156 patients, and 15(9.6%) of patients died before discharge. The lymphocyte count(Lym) and percentage(Lym%) were significantly lower in nonsurvivors(P<0.05). The univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that Lym% at the third day of admission(Lym% D3)(OR=0.609, 95%CI: 0.454–0.816) and hematocrit(HCT)(OR=0.908, 95%CI: 0.834–0.988) were independent protective factors for hospital mortality. A nomogram incorporating Lym% D3 with HCT was developed and demonstrated good discrimination and calibration ability. The comparison between the prediction model and scoring systems revealed that the prediction model had the largest area under the curve(AUC)(0.948, 95%CI: 0.900–0.977), with 100.00% sensitivity and 83.69% specificity, and a greater clinical net ***: Severe EHS patients had a higher risk of experiencing prolonged lymphopenia. A nomogram based on Lym% D3 and HCT was developed to facilitate early identification and timely treatment of patients with potentially unfavorable prognoses.
