Background:Great diversity exists in the parenting pattern of altricial birds,which has long been considered as an adaptive response to specific environmental conditions but not to their life-history ***:We examined the egg-laying and nestling-raising pattern of the Grey-backed Shrike(Lanius tephronotus)that breeds only once a year on the tibetan *** compared the dietary composition to that of its sympatric competitor,the Brown-cheeked Laughing Thrush(Trochalopteron henrici)that breeds twice a ***:Female Grey-backed Shrikes produced a fixed clutch size of five,with increasing egg size by their laying *** last offspring in the brood is disadvantageous in the size hierarchy because it hatches ***,they had the largest fledgling body *** findings indicate that Grey-backed Shrikes adopt the brood survival strategy in both the egg and nestling ***,males and females exhibit no sexual division in providing parental care as they made an equal contribution to the total amount of food delivered to their *** parenting pattern of Grey-backed Shrikes,as well as their dietary items,differ significantly from those of the Brown-cheeked Laughing ***:We suggest that the differentiation in life-history style between sympatric competitors,rather than a behavioral response to specific environmental conditions,plays a decisive role in driving avian parenting strategy diversification.

Salinity is a serious challenge for agriculture production by limiting the arable *** is a major staple food crop but very sensitive to salt *** this study,we used Arabidopsis for the functional characterization of a rice F-box gene LOC_Os04g48270(OsPP12-A13)under salinity ***12-A13 is a nuclear-localized protein that is strongly upregulated under salinity stress in rice and showed the highest expression in the stem,followed by roots and *** types of transgenic lines for OsPP12-A13 were generated,including constitutive tissue over-expression using the CaMV35S promoter and phloem specific over-expression using the pSUC2 *** types of transgenic plants showed salinity tolerance at the seedling stage through higher germination percentage and longer root length,as compared to control plants under salt stress in MS *** the transgenic plants also exhibited salt tolerance at the reproductive stage through higher survival rate,plant dry biomass,and seed yield per plant as compared to control *** of Na+concentration in leaves,stem and roots of salt-stressed transgenic plants showed that Na^(+) concentration was less in leaf and stem as compared to *** opposite was observed in wild type stressed plants,suggesting that OsPP12-A13 may be involved in Na+transport from root to *** plants also displayed less ROS levels and higher activities of peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase along with upregulation of their corresponding genes as compared to control plants which further indicated a role of OsPP12-A13 in maintaining ROS homeostasis under salt ***,the non-significant difference between the transgenic lines obtained from the two vectors highlighted that OsPP12-A13 principally works in the *** together,this study showed that OsPP12-A13 improves salt tolerance in rice,possibly by affecting Na^(+) transport and ROS homeostasis.

Gasification or combustion of coal and biomass is the most important form of power generation ***,the use of coal/biomass at high temperatures has an inherent problem related to the ash *** formation of ash leads to a problematic phenomenon called *** is the accumulation of molten ash on the walls of the furnace,gasifier,or boiler and is detrimental as it reduces the heat transfer rate,and the combustion/gasification rate of unburnt carbon,causes mechanical failure,high-temperature corrosion and on occasions,superheater *** improve the gasifier/combustor facility,it is very important to understand the key ash properties,slag characteristics,viscosity and critical viscosity *** paper reviews the content,compositions,and melting characteristics of ashes in differently ranked coal and biomass,and discusses the formation mechanism,characteristics,and structure of *** particular,this paper focuses on low-rank coal and biomass that have been receiving increased attention ***,it reviews the available methodologies and formulae for slag viscosity measurement/prediction and summarizes the current limitations and potential ***,it discusses the slagging behavior of different ranks of coal and biomass by examining the applicability of the current viscosity measurement methods to these fuels,and the viscosity prediction models and factors that affect the slag *** review shows that the existing viscosity models and slagging indices can only satisfactorily predict the viscosity and slagging propensity of high-rank coals but cannot predict the slagging propensity and slag viscosity of low-rank coal,and especially biomass ashes,even if they are limited to a particular composition ***,there is a critical need for the development of an index,or a model or even a measurement method,which can predict/measure the slagging propensity and slag viscosity correctly for all low-rank co

The development of receptive endometrium(RE) from pre-receptive endometrium(PE) for successful embryo implantation is a complex dynamic process in which the morphology and physiological states of the endometrial epithelium undergo a series of significant changes, including cell proliferation and apoptosis. However, the molecular mechanisms are not yet fully understood. In this study, a higher circRNA3669 level was observed in PE than in RE of goats. Functional assays revealed that this overexpression promoted the proliferation of goat endometrial epithelial cells(GEECs) by activating the expression of genes related to the PI3K/AKT-mTOR and MAPK pathways,thereby inhibiting apoptosis in vitro. Furthermore, circRNA3669 functioned as a competing endogenous RNA(ceRNA) to upregulate Reticulocalbin-2(RCN2) expression at the post-transcriptional level by interacting with and downregulating miR-26a in GEECs. In addition, RCN2, which is highly expressed in the PE of goats, was found to be regulated by β-estradiol(E2) and progesterone(P4). Our results demonstrated that RCN2 also affected the key proteins PI3K, AKT, mTOR, JNK, and P38 in the PI3K/AKT-mTOR and MAPK pathways, thereby facilitating GEECs proliferation and suppressing their apoptosis in vitro. Collectively, we constructed a new circRNA3669-miR-26aRCN2 regulatory network in GEECs, which further provides strong evidence that circRNA could potentially play a crucial regulatory role in the development of RE in goats.

The results brought out in the trials of slope protection along Qinghai-tibet Highway are presented in this paper. The trials were carried out simultaneously at 5 sites in Qinghai-tibet Plateau from 2000 to 2002. Altitudes at the experimental sites range between （4 240） m and （5 040） m. 4 sites are in permafrost area, and 1 site is in seasonally frozen ground. According to the trials of slope protection, vegetation is preferred to protect slopes along Qinghai-tibet Highway. Road-GoodR, a chemical stabilizer, is proved as a good material for slope protection, and soil engineering system, combined with vegetative component and grade stabilization structures is proved as the best slope protection measure in these areas. The results showed that high-altitude areas at an altitude lower than （5 040） m, annual average temperatures higher than （-5.6） ℃ and annual rainfall more than 262\^2 mm, slopes can be protected using vegetative components.\;Trials for plant species selection proved that cold resistant grasses, Elymus nutans and Elymus sibiricus can be used for vegetation recovery along Qinghai-tibet Highway. The results demonstrated that high-altitude areas at an altitude lower than （5 040） m, annual average temperatures higher than （-5.6） ℃ and annual rainfall more than 262\^2 mm, could be replanted. Hydroseeding proved to be a good planting technique, and mulch materials benefited vegetation recovery in such area.\;The experiment also proved that planting could improve slope stability, protect the ecological environment, and improve the roadside landscape.

Using the GEANT4 and Cosmic Ray Monte Carlo(CRMC)software packages,we developed a new simulation toolkit for astrophysical neutrino *** configuring the Baikal-GVD detector and comparing the vertex position and direction of incident particles,as well as the channel-by-channel signals,to the events detected by Baikal-GVD,we successfully generated 13 high-energy cascade neutrino events with the *** analysis revealed a systematic offset between the reconstructed shower position and the true interaction position,with a distance close to the scale of the shower maximum of−0.54±1.29 *** achieved a good linear relationship between the photoelectron number of neutrino events obtained by simulation and the real data measured by *** simulation toolkit could serve as a reliable basis for studying the performance of astrophysical neutrino telescopes.

Knowledge of the spatial distribution of interseismic deformations is essential to better understand earthquake *** existing methods for improving the reliability of the obtained deformations often rely on visual inspection and prior model corrections that are time-consuming,labor-intensive,and do not consider the spatial distribution of interseismic *** Synthetic Aperture Radar(InSAR)data provides wide-scale coverage for interseismic deformation monitoring over a wide ***,the interseismic signal featured as millimeter-scale and long-wave deformations is often contaminated with *** the present study,a new workfow to correct the interferometric phase and quantitatively select interferograms is proposed to improve the accuracy of interseismic deformation ***,the Generic Atmospheric Correction Online Service(GACOS),Intermittent Code for Atmospheric Noise Depression through Iterative Stacking(I-CANDIS),and plate model are combined to correct the atmospheric screen and long-wave ramp ***,the Pearson’s Correlation Coefcient(PCC)between the interferometric phase and the Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)constrained interseismic model as well as the STandard Deviation(STD)of the interferometric phase are introduced as criteria to optimize the selection of ***,the intermittent stacking method is used to generate an average velocity map.A comprehensive test using Sentinel-1 images covering the Haiyuan Fault Zone validate the efectiveness of our workfow in measuring interseismic *** demonstrates that the proposed joint InSAR-GNSS workfow can be extended to study the subtle interseismic deformations of major fault systems in tibet and worldwide.
