Life cycle assessment of homogeneous Fenton process as pretreatment for refractory pharmaceutical wastewater

The applicability of the life cycle assessment(LCA)to the Fenton process should be considered not only at the laboratory-scale but also at the *** this study,the LCA process was applied to evaluate the homo-geneous Fenton process for the treatment of high salinity pharmaceutical *** potential environmental impacts were calculated using Simapro software implemen-ting the CML 2001 methodology with normalization factors of 1995 *** data obtained directly from the full-scale wastewater treatment plant and labora-tory were used to conduct a life cycle inventory analysis,ensuring highly accurate *** normalized results,the Fenton process reveals sensitive indicators,primarily toxi-city indicators(human toxicity,freshwater aquatic toxicity,and marine aquatic toxicity),as well as acidification and eutrophication impacts,contributed by hydrogen peroxide and iron sludge incineration,***,hydrogen peroxide and iron sludge incineration contribute significantly,accounting for at least 78%of these *** sludge treatment phase,treatment of iron mud and infrastructure of hazardous waste incineration plants were the key contributors of environmental impacts,adding up to more than 95%.This study suggests the need to develop efficient oxidation processes and effective iron sludge treatment methods to reduce resource utilization and improve environmental benefits.

The development of a high-performance ferroelectric piezo-photocatalyst is an efficient strategy for advancing sustainability within the environmental and energy ***,a major challenge lies in the creation of a strong polarized electric field that can effectively hinder charge recombination,both within the bulk and on the surface of ***,we synthesize a series of Nb-doped Bi_(4)Ti_(3)O_(12)nanosheets via a facile one-pot hydrothermal method to achieve synergistically enhanced piezo-photocatalytic performance in CO_(2)reduction and pollutant *** optimized doped Bi_(4)Ti_(3)O_(12)demonstrates remarkable efficiency in the conversion of CO_(2)into CO,with a high production rate of 72.7μmol∙g−1∙h−1 without using co-catalysts or any sacrificial agent,surpassing the performance of unmodified Bi_(4)Ti_(3)O_(12)by up to 4.69 ***,our catalyst demonstrates ultra-fast piezo-photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutant Rhodamine B(RhB)at low concentrations and exceptional piezo-photocatalytic activity at high concentrations,outperforming most previously reported state-of-the-art *** systematic corroboration of catalyst characterization and experimental analysis reveals that the synergistic effect arises from the amplified macroscopic polarization induced by lattice distortion caused by the larger Nb ions,thereby improving piezo-photocatalytic *** research thus offers valuable insights into the direct design and fabrication of versatile catalytic systems,with applications spanning CO_(2)valorization and beyond.

Based on the monitoring of the main water quality parameters in the inverted A2 /O process employed in The No.4 wastewater treatment plant of xi’an city,this paper mainly analyzed contaminant removals during over half a year *** results demonstrated that the total removal efficiencies of CODcr,TN,NH3-N,TP and SS could reach to 90.5%,65.2%,82.0%,54.8% and 95.8%,*** addition,the treatment process showed a strong resistance for loading impact,resulting in relatively stable effluent ***,a lower removal efficiency of TP in the bioreactor and sludge floating in the secondary settling tank were *** deep analyzing,some countermeasures were ***,it is expected that the conclusions derived from this study may be valuable for design and operation management of the similar wastewater treatment plants in the future.

Classification of contaminants and treatability evaluation of domestic wastewater

Long-term sampling and analysis were conducted in a domestic wastewater treatment plant for the investigation on the characteristics of the representative contaminants in raw sewage such as SS,COD,BOD5,TP,and *** these constituents were classified into dissolved and suspended groups by using a 0.45-μm membrane filter,and the concen-tration of each constituent in each group was *** a result,almost 100%of the SS was found to be suspended matter,as well as about 65% of COD,60% of BOD_(5),50% of P,and 20%of *** these could be easily removed by sedimentation or coagulation/sedimentation.A treatability evaluation diagram was proposed for a rational selection of wastewater treatment process in accordance with raw water quality.

Tracking the reactivity of ozonation towards effluent organic matters from WWTP using two-dimensional correlation spectra

The characteristics of effluent organic matter(EfOM) from a wastewater treatment plant(WWTP) during ozonation were investigated using excitation and emission matrix(EEM)spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and high-performance size exclusion chromatography(HPSEC) at different ozone dosages. The selectivity of ozonation towards different constituents and functional groups was analysed using two-dimensional correlation spectra(2D-COS) probed by FT-IR, synchronous fluorescence spectra and *** results indicated that ozonation can destroy aromatic structures of EfOM and change its molecular weight distribution(MWD). According to 2D-COS analysis, microbial humiclike substances were preferentially removed, and then the protein-like fractions. Terrestrial humic-like components exhibited inactivity towards ozonation compared with the above two fractions. Protein-like substances with small molecular weight were preferentially reacted during ozonation based on 2D-COS probed by HPSEC. In addition, the selectivity of ozone towards different functional groups of EfOM exhibited the following sequence:phenolic and alcoholic C\O groups > aromatic structures containing C_C double bonds >aliphatic C\H. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) further elucidated the preferential reaction of aromatic structures in EfOM during ozonation.

Synthesis and Characteristics of A Novel Heavy Metal Ions Chelator

Polyacrylamide-urea-sulfanilamide（PUS） was prepared as a novel heavy metal ions chelator and successfully used to simultaneously remove heavy metals from wastewater *** effects of reaction parameters（sodium hydroxide,material ratio,temprature and contact time） were monitored to specify the best synthesis *** was chemically characterized by means of infrared spectroscopy（FTIR） and ultraviolet-visible（UV-Vis）.The simultaneous chelation performance of PUS towards selected heavy metals ions,Ni2＋,Cu2＋,Pb2＋,Zn2＋,Cd2＋ was discussed,showing that Ni2＋,Cu2＋,Pb2＋,Zn2＋ could be better *** is indicated that the synthesized PUS is a potential remediation material when used for the treatment of wastewater containing metal ions.

The Application of KMnO_4 Pre-oxidation in Emergency treatment of High-algae Source Water

Mobile emergency pilot water plant was used to carry out pilot study of KMnO4 pre-oxidation enhanced coagulation treating high-algae source water. Research showed that the optimal dosages of coagulant and KMnO4 in the process were 6 and 0. 4- 0. 6 mg / L respectively. Under the dosage,removal rate of water turbidity after precipitation rose by 11% than simple coagulation,and removal rate of algae rose by 15%. Removal rates of total amount of odor and GSM by the process were respectively 73% and 59%. The removal rate of total amount of algae by KMnO4 preoxidation was 40%,and removal effect of THM precursors was obvious.

Congruence Study between the Continuous Chemical Reactor (CSTR) and the Maturation Oxidation Ponds within wastewater treatment

People who are involved in managing wastewater treatment face the challenge of achieving conservation goals with limited funds, and also of balancing needs for nature conservation. This context has been motivated with finding logic explanations of wastewater treatment by oxidation ponds. Description of progressive we have made with developing methods is for understanding how, when and where had done to apply the oxidation ponds for protecting biodiversity. The Rashid oxidation pond facility was highlighted as a model plant for utilizing this technology in wastewater treatment in the city of Rashid, El-Beheira Governorate, Egypt. The main concept is based on the interaction of chemical pollutants NO2, NO3, BOD5-in, and BOD5-out and heavy metals with microorganisms as Chlorophyta Green and cyanophyta, and how these oxidation ponds imitate the Continuous Chemical Reactor (CSTR) to build its core architecture for maximum usefulness. By applying the theoretical equation of (CSTR) on the experimental results of the oxidation pond according to Thirumurthi equation, it was discovered that (CSTR) and oxidation pond are matching together with a satisfactory ratio of congruence (85% - 88%). Also, the heavy metals as (iron, Zinc and copper) are high percentage removal by the algae rules. This investigation established that the oxidation ponds may function as a Continuous Chemical Reactor under ultimate conditions and precautions.

Technological Feasibility of Biodiesel Production from Bioaugmented Hydrolysate of Waste Sludge in a Municipal wastewater treatment plant

The hydrolysate of waste sludge was used as the feedstock of biodiesel production,and its technological feasibility was *** sludge,collected from no.3 Municipal wastewater treatment plant of xi’an,was hydrolyzed in two parallel reactors *** was added into one reactor for bioaugmentation,and the other reactor without yeast was used as a *** an acid-catalyzed in situ esterification process was carried out to convert the hydrolysate to *** results of hydrolysis showed that the reactor bioaugmented with yeast could promote hydrolysis compared with the control one because of an obvious variance in total suspended solid(TSS),volatile suspended solid(VSS)and soluble chemical oxygen demand(SCOD).Furthermore,gas chromatography(GC)analysis exhibited that the total volatile fatty acid(VFA)was low in the hydrolysate of bioaugmentation reactor;however,its yield of the fatty acid methyl esters(FAMEs)by in situ esterification was obviously higher when compared with the control ***,it may be inferred that the hydrolysate of bioaugmentation was mainly inclined to longer-chain fatty acid rather than to ***,an FAMEs yield of 9.24%(wt%)from dried sludge was attained after the 12-d bioaugmentation hydrolysis and succedent *** value was not only higher than that of the control one but also higher than that reported in previous *** above results illuminated that it was feasible to produce biodiesel from the bioaugmented hydrolysate of waste sludge.

Statistical regression modeling for energy consumption in wastewater treatment

wastewater treatment is one of critical issues faced by water utilities, and receives more and more attentions recently. The energy consumption modeling in biochemical wastewater treatment was investigated in the study via a general and robust approach based on Bayesian semi-parametric quantile regression. The dataset was derived from a municipal wastewater treatment plant, where the energy consumption of unit chemical oxygen demand(COD) reduction was the response variable of interest. Via the proposed approach,the comprehensive regression pictures of the energy consumption and truly influencing factors, i.e., the regression relationships at lower, median and higher energy consumption levels were characterized respectively. Meanwhile, the proposals for energy saving in different cases were also facilitated specifically. First, the lower level of energy consumption was closely associated with the temperature of influent wastewater, and the chroma-rich wastewater also showed helpful in the execution of energy saving. Second, at median energy consumption level, the COD-rich wastewater played a determinative role in the reduction of energy consumption, while the higher quality of treated water led to slightly energy intensive. Third, the higher level of energy consumption was most likely to be attributed to the relatively high temperature of wastewater and total nitrogen(TN)-rich wastewater,and both of the factors were preferably to be avoided to alleviate the burden of energy consumption. The study provided an efficient approach to controlling the energy consumption of wastewater treatment in the perspective of statistical regression modeling, and offered valuable suggestions for the future energy saving.
