Efficacy and safety of ivermectin in patients with mild and moderate COVID-19:A randomized controlled trial

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ivermectin in patients with mild and moderate ***:This study was a single-center,randomized,open-label,controlled trial with a 2-arm parallel-group design on 68 patients with *** to the 1:1 ratio between the study groups(ivermectin group and standard treatment group),patients were randomly admitted to each intervention ***:The mean age of the participants in the ivermectin group was(48.37±13.32)*** of them were males(54.5%)and the participants in the control group had a mean age of(46.28±14.47)years,with nineteen of them being males(59.4%).As a primary outcome,after 5 days of randomization,there was no significant difference between the ivermectin group and the control group in the length of stay in the hospital(P=0.168).ICU admission(P=0.764),length of stay in ICU(P=0.622),in-hospital mortality(P=0.427),adverse drug reactions,and changes in the mean difference of laboratory data had not any significant difference between the two groups(except for urea change).In addition,the radiologic findings of the two groups of patients were not significantly *** regression analysis showed that for every 10 years increase of age,0.6 day of hospitalization duration was *** was no statistically significant association between other variables and clinical ***:Among adult hospitalized patients with moderate to severe COVID-19,there was no significant relationship between the administration of ivermectin single dose in a five-day course and clinical improvement,and mortality of the participants.

EFFECT OF SIMULATED WEIGHTLESSNESS ON REPRODUCTION OF ADULT MALE RATS

Objective To study the effects of simulated weightlessness induced by tail-suspension on reproduction in adult male rats and its mechanisms. Methods Twenty Spraque-Dawley adult male rats were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group and control group. Rats in the experimental group were tail-suspended for 14 days. After the treatment, the weight and morphology of testis, the quantity and quality of sperm, the level of serum testosterone and the apoptosis rate of testicular cells were observed. Results Compared with the control, the testicular weight, the quantity and quality of sperm, the level of serum testosterone significantly decreased (P<0.05) while the apoptosis rate of testicular cells significantly increased (P<0.05) in tail-suspended rats. In addition, hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining showed that seminiferous tubules atrophied, spermatogenic cells decreased, seminiferous epithelial cells disintegrated and shed, and the lumina were azoospermic. Conclusion Simulated weightlessness induced by tail-suspension has a harmful effect on male reproduction of adult rats by increasing the apoptosis of testicular cells.

Background This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and clinical effect of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(haplo-HSCT)for the treatment of pediatric patients with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection(CAEBV).Methods Children with CAEBV who did not have matched donors and underwent haplo-HSCT in Beijing Children's Hospital,Capital Medical University,from October 2016 to June 2020 were analyzed *** relating to the clinical manifestations,engraftment,and prognosis of the children were extracted from medical *** Twenty-five patients,including 16 males and 9 females,with an onset age of 5.0±2.6 years and a transplantation age of 6.9±2.9 years,were enrolled irnhis *** mean time from diagnosis to transplantation was 3.8(2.0-40.2)*** mean observation time was 19.0±12.0 *** patients received the reduced intensity conditioning regimen,and the remaining patients all received the modified myeloablative conditioning *** the end of the follow-up,23 patients were characterized by disease-free survival(DFS),22 were characterized by event-free survival(EFS).and two *** of the patients died of thrombotic microangiopathy(TMA),and another died of graft versus host disease(GVHD);this patient discontinued the treatment for economic *** 3-year overall survival(OS)rate was estimated to be 92.0%±5.4%,and the 3-year EFS rate was estimated to be 87.4%±6.8%.All active patients survived after HSCT *** GVHD degrees 1-3 were observed in ten patients(40.0%),and degree IV was observed in six(24.0%),who were all cured except for one *** GVHD was observed in nine(36.0%),and most of these cases were *** incidence of TMA and veno-occlusive disease(VOD)was 28.0%and 4.0%.Conclusions Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is safe and effective in the treatment of pediatric CAEBV and can be used as an alternative therapy without matched donors or emergency tr

Interferon-c and interleukin-4 detected in serum and saliva from patients with oral lichen planus

Our previous salivary study had demonstrated an apparent T helper 2 （Th2）-predominance in saliva of oral lichen planus （OLP） patients and suggested a potential of salivary interleukin-4 （IL-4） as a biomarker for monitoring disease severity. To further determine the consistency of Th1/Th2 bias of OLP, this study investigated the expression profile of interferon-γ （IFN-γ） and IL-4 in serum and the relationship of the serum levels of these cytokines with their saliva partners. Sixty ethnic Chinese patients with OLP （40 of the erythematous/ulcerative form and 20 of the reticular form） were recruited for this study, with 40 age-sex-matched healthy volunteers as control group. IFN-γ and IL-4 levels in serum and paired saliva samples were screened by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. OLP patient showed a low-level IFN-γ but high-level IL-4 expression profile in both serum and saliva, with a lower IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio. Serum IL-4 level in the erythematous/ulcerative group was significantly higher than that in the reticular group. Serum levels of IFN-γ and IL-4 were significantly and positively correlated with their saliva partners. These results provided more evidence for Th2 cytokine- predominant immune imbalance in OLP, as well as the potential of IL-4 as the biomarker for monitoring severity of OLP.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,the unexpected outbreak and worldwide spread of monkeypox has gained global *** of June 22,2022,there were 3340 confirmed cases of monkeypox globally,which is the largest and most widespread monkeypox epidemic outside *** virus(MPXV)is transmitted from human-to-human through direct contact with infectious skin or mucosal skin lesions,respiratory droplets,or indirect contact with contaminated objects or materials,as well as mother-to-child vertical *** is also possibly sexually transmitted through semen/vaginal fluid,and the possibility of community transmission cannot be ruled *** is a viral zoonotic disease caused by MPXV,which is an enveloped,linear,double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus,of the Chordopoxvirinae subfamily,within the Poxviridae *** is usually a self-limiting infection,with symptoms lasting 2-4 weeks,and has a fatality rate that has historically fluctuated from 0%to 11%.Symptoms of monkeypox include intense headaches,fever,lesions,and *** there is no specific treatment or vaccine for MPXV infection,antiviral drugs and vaccines for smallpox have been approved for use in several countries in response to the monkeypox *** the virus can be allowed to establish efficient person-to-person transmission,rapid action must be taken to contain the local spread and,by extension,the multi-country outbreak of monkeypox.

Analysis on the migration of first-generation Mythimna separata(Walker) in China in 2013

Mythimna separata（Walker） is an important pest which can cause serious damages to cereal crops. In the past two decades, several heavy outbreaks have taken place in northern China. In order to develop a fine-scale method of forecasting outbreaks, population data were collected in northern China using searchlight traps and ground light traps. A background weather pattern analysis and trajectory analysis were performed via the Weather Research and Forecast（WRF） and FLEXPART models. Our results showed that heavy migration of first-generation M. separata appeared in northern China in 2013. In Yanqing District, Beijing, the cumulative number of captured adults in searchlight traps was around 250000 and the daily maximum for trapped moths was 86000. During the peak period, the majority of M. separata moths arrived after 00：00 every night. The sex ratio（female：male） at each monitoring site was greater than 1 and greatly fluctuated with population dynamics. During the migration peak, prevailing downdraft winds benefited M. separata moths to land passively. Trajectory simulation showed that immigrants were from Anhui, Jiangsu and Hubei provinces and most of them could continue to fly into the northeastern regions of China. These results provide technical support for fine-scale forecasting of the outbreak of M. separata at meso-and micro-scale.
