Integrated multi-scale approach combining global homogenization and local refinement for multi-field analysis of high-temperature superconducting composite magnets

Second-generation high-temperature superconducting(HTS)conductors,specifically rare earth-barium-copper-oxide(REBCO)coated conductor(CC)tapes,are promising candidates for high-energy and high-field superconducting *** respect to epoxy-impregnated REBCO composite magnets that comprise multilayer components,the thermomechanical characteristics of each component differ considerably under extremely low temperatures and strong electromagnetic *** numerical models include homogenized orthotropic models,which simplify overall field calculation but miss detailed multi-physics aspects,and full refinement(FR)ones that are thorough but computationally ***,we propose an extended multi-scale approach for analyzing the multi-field characteristics of an epoxy-impregnated composite magnet assembled by HTS pancake *** approach combines a global homogenization(GH)scheme based on the homogenized electromagnetic T-A model,a method for solving Maxwell's equations for superconducting materials based on the current vector potential T and the magnetic field vector potential A,and a homogenized orthotropic thermoelastic model to assess the electromagnetic and thermoelastic properties at the macroscopic *** then identify“dangerous regions”at the macroscopic scale and obtain finer details using a local refinement(LR)scheme to capture the responses of each component material in the HTS composite tapes at the mesoscopic *** results of the present GH-LR multi-scale approach agree well with those of the FR scheme and the experimental data in the literature,indicating that the present approach is accurate and *** proposed GH-LR multi-scale approach can serve as a valuable tool for evaluating the risk of failure in large-scale HTS composite magnets.

Ultrafast micro/nano-manufacturing of metastable materials for energy

The structural engineering of metastable nanomaterials with abundant defects has attracted much attention in energy-related fields. The high-temperature shock(HTS) technique, as a rapidly developing and advanced synthesis strategy, offers significant potential for the rational design and fabrication of high-quality nanocatalysts in an ultrafast, scalable, controllable and eco-friendly way. In this review, we provide an overview of various metastable micro-and nanomaterials synthesized via HTS, including single metallic and bimetallic nanostructures, high entropy alloys, metal compounds(e.g. metal oxides) and carbon nanomaterials. Note that HTS provides a new research dimension for nanostructures, i.e. kinetic modulation. Furthermore, we summarize the application of HTS—as supporting films for transmission electron microscopy grids—in the structural engineering of 2D materials, which is vital for the direct imaging of metastable materials. Finally, we discuss the potential future applications of high-throughput and liquid-phase HTS strategies for non-equilibrium micro/nano-manufacturing beyond energy-related *** is believed that this emerging research field will bring new opportunities to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology in both fundamental and practical aspects.

Cross-linkedα-amylase aggregates on Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles modified with polydopamine/polyethyleneimine for efficient hydrolysis of starch

In this workα-amylase was immobilized on magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles with polyethylenimine(PEI)/polydopamine(PDA)coating or 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane(APTES)for the first time via adsorption–precipitation–*** with the freeα-amylase,the resultant magnetic cross-linkedα-amylase aggregates(PEI/PDA-M-CLEAs and N-M-CLEAs)exhibited excellent thermal and storage stability as well as pH *** storage at 25°C for 60 days,freeα-amylase only retained 60%of its initial activity,while PEI/PDA-M-CLEAs and N-M-CLEAs retained 80%and 78%of their initial activities,***,N-M-CLEAs and PEI/PDA-M-CLEAs showed good *** 6 repeated uses,PEI/PDA-M-CLEAs and N-M-CLEAs still maintained 65%and 62%of their initial activities,***,PEI/PDA-M-CLEAs and N-M-CLEAs exhibited higher starch hydrolysis efficiency than freeα-*** maximum dextrose equivalent(DE)values of starch hydrolysis by PEI/PDA-M-CLEAs and N-M-CLEAs reached 29.24%and 28.79%within 90 min,***,the maximum DE values of starch hydrolysis by the freeα-amylase was only 27.89%even in 150 *** magnetic cross-linkedα-amylase aggregates could be introduced as effective biocatalyst for industrial applications in production of maltose syrups.

Spontaneous anchoring Cl into α-Co（OH）2 as efficient and stable oxygen reduction electrocatalysts for seawater battery

Seawater battery is an advanced energy storage system that enables conversion of chemical energy to electricity by consuming metals,dissolved oxygen and seawater in anode,cathode and electrolyte,***,the oxygen reduction reaction（ORR） activity and stability of electrocatalysts can be easily deactivated due to the severe Cl-permeation and corrosion in seawater ***,we developed a structural buffer engineering strategy by spontaneously anchoring Cl-into α-Co（OH）2as efficient and stable ORR electrocatalysts,in which the ultrathin α-Co（OH）2nanosheets were synthesized using an ultrafast solution high-temperature shock（SHTS） *** large lattice space（～ 0.8 nm） of layered α-Co（OH）2ensured the spontaneously penetration of Cl-into the lattice structure and replaced part of OH-to form α-Co（OH）*** continuous leaching and compensating of saturated Cl in α-Co（OH）2-xClxcould enhance the Cl-corrosion resistance and modulate electronic structure of Co metallic sites,thus improving the ORR electrocatalytic activity and stability in seawater *** α-Co（OH）2-xClxseawater batteries display superior onset and half-wave potentials of 0.71 and 0.66 V,respectively,which are much better than the counterparts of α-Co（OH）2and of β-Co（OH）2with no Cl-penetrating and no buffer *** α-Co（OH）2-xClx-based seawater batteries display stable open-circuit potential of 1.69 V and outstanding specific capacity of 1345 mAh·g-1.

Carbon emission quantification and reduction in pavement use phase:A review

The carbon emissions arising from road pavement infrastructures have emerged as critical issue in recent *** life cycle of a pavement can be divided into five phases,namely raw materials and production,construction,use,maintenance and end of *** the use phase generates the highest carbon emissions throughout the pavement's life cycle,it is usually neglected in most pavement life cycle assessment(LCA)studies due to its complexity and ***,this review selected 126 relevant references,focuses on quantification methods,influential factors and reduction technologies of carbon emissions in pavement use *** the carbon accounting approached,the LCA approach,remains the most widely used for evaluating the environmental impact of ***,the primary influential factors on the use phase'carbon emission include pavement-vehicle interaction primarily affected by pavement roughness,pavement albedo and climate *** influential factors above indirectly cause changes in carbon emissions by influencing the pavement performance and subsequent vehicle ***,the review surveys carbon emission reduction technologies during pavement use phase,focusing mainly on reducing pavement rolling resistance and constructing cool *** pavements and permeable pavements are the most widely used cool pavement ***,the aspects involved in this paper hold significant promise for quantifying and reducing carbon emissions in the pavement use phase.

Effects of the inlet particle spatial distribution on the performance of a gas-solid cyclone separator

The present study was aimed at the inlet particle spatial distribution of a gas-solid separator with high solid loading and investigated its effects on cyclone performance and the inner flow *** flow fields of a cyclone with different rectangular particle flow areas on the inlet surface were numerically simulated using a four-way coupling *** simulated results indicate that reducing the inlet particle flow area and lowing the inlet particle position can effectively reduce the scattered particles inside the cyclone separator and enhance the separation *** gathering the particles to the centerline can also weaken the particle *** particles near the roof account for the swirling particle ceiling *** inlet particle spatial distribution affects the pressure drop mainly by affecting the gas tangential velocity in the cylinder ***,compared to the hori-zontal particle distribution on the inlet surface,the vertical particle distribution has greater effects on cyclone performance.

Synthesis of uniform two-dimensional MoS_(2) films via thermal evaporation

Two-dimensional(2D)molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))holds great potential for various applications such as electronic devices,catalysis,lubrication,anti-corrosion and so *** evaporation is a versatile thin film deposition technique,however,the conventional thermal evaporation techniques face challenges in producing uniform thin films of MoS_(2) due to its high melting temperature of 1375℃.As a result,only thick and rough MoS_(2) films can be obtained using these *** address this issue,we have designed a vacuum thermal evaporation system specifically for large-scale preparation of MoS_(2) thin *** using K2MoS4 as the precursor,we achieved reliable deposition of uniform polycrystalline MoS_(2) thin films with a size of 50 mm×50 mm and controllable thickness ranging from 0.8 to 2.4 *** approach also allows for patterned deposition of MoS_(2) using shadow masks and sequential deposition of MoS_(2) and tungsten disulfide(WS_(2)),similar to conventional thermal evaporation ***,we have demonstrated the potential applications of the obtained MoS_(2) thin films in field effect transistors(FETs),memristors and electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).

Multi-time Collaborative Restoration for Integrated Electrical-gas Distribution Systems Based on Rolling Optimization

This paper proposes a multi-time collaborative restoration model for integrated electricity-gas distribution sys-tems(IEGDSs)considering multiple resources after extreme weather *** on the linearized power flow constraints of the unbalanced electrical distribution system(EDS)and gas distribution system(GDS),this problem can be formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)*** improve the efficiency and veracity of the solution,a rolling optimiza-tion based two-stage method is developed with the first stage solved by a linear approximation model,and the second stage solved by real-time updated rolling *** solving the MILP problem using rolling optimization,the proposed model and solution method achieve efficient and reliable collaborative restoration of IEGDS considering multiple resources and unbal-anced operation characteristics of *** effectiveness of the proposed model and method is validated by using an IEGDS made of a 37-bus unbalanced EDS and 11-node *** Terms-Electricity-gas system,mix-integer linear programming,power system restoration.

Investigation on UV-curing Reprocessable Thermosets Bearing Hindered Urea Bonds and Their Composites with Modified Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

In this study,a series of hindered urea bond(HUB)containing polyurethane-urea methacrylate prepolymers and a none HUB containing polyurethane methacrylate prepolymer were prepared using isobornyl methacrylate as the reactive diluent via one-pot *** prepolymers were characterized fully by various ***,their thermosets were fabricated via UV curing in presence of a photo initiator,and their mechanical property and thermal behavior were investigated and *** from the none HUB containing thermoset,the HUB containing thermosets(defined as PUT)could be recycled and reprocessed by hot press under relatively mild conditions with high recovery ratio of mechanical ***,zinc oxide(ZnO)nanoparticles were modified with 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate and the modified ZnO(defined as ZnO-TPM)was dispersed and polymerized into PUT matrix to prepare their *** influence of ZnO-TPM on the mechanical performance of the composites was evaluated,which indicated that the Young’s modulus and tensile strength increased gradually to the maximum values at ZnO-TPM content of 1 wt%and then *** composites also displayed good reprocessability with improved recovery ratio compared to the pure PUT *** addition,the composite materials exhibited strong UV absorption capacity,implying their potential application in the circumstance where UV-shielding was required.

Exceptional points enhance sensing in silicon micromechanical resonators

Exceptional points(EPs)have recently emerged as a new method for engineering the response of open physical systems,that is,systems that interact with the *** systems at the EPs exhibit a strong response to a small ***,we show a method by which the sensitivity of silicon resonant sensors can be enhanced when operated at *** our experiments,we use a pair of mechanically coupled silicon micromechanical resonators constituting a parity-time(PT)-symmetric *** perturbations introduced on the mechanically coupled spring cause the frequency to split from the EPs into the PT-symmetric regime without broadening the two spectrum linewidths,and this frequency splitting scales with the square root of the perturbation *** overall signal-tonoise ratio is still greatly enhanced,although the measured noise spectral density of the EP sensing scheme has a slight increase comparable to the traditional *** results pave the way for resonant sensors with ultrahigh sensitivity.
