The Qilian Mountain permafrost area located in the northern of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is a favorable place for natural gas hydrate formation and enrichment,due to its well-developed fractures and abundant gas *** the formation and distribution of multi-component gas hydrates in fractures is crucial in accurately evaluating the hydrate reservoir resources in this *** hydrate formation experiments were carried out using the core samples drilled from hydrate-bearing sediments in Qilian Mountain permafrost area and the multi-component gas with similar composition to natural gas hydrates in Qilian Mountain permafrost *** formation and distribution characteristics of multi-component gas hydrates in core samples were observed in situ by X-ray Computed Tomography(X-CT)under high pressure and low temperature *** show that hydrates are mainly formed and distributed in the fractures with good *** ratios of volume of hydrates formed in fractures to the volume of fractures are about 96.8%and 60.67%in two different core *** indicates that the fracture surface may act as a favorable reaction site for hydrate formation in core *** on the field geological data and the experimental results,it is preliminarily estimated that the inventory of methane stored in the fractured gas hydrate in Qilian Mountain permafrost area is about 8.67×1013 m3,with a resource abundance of 8.67×108 m3/*** study demonstrates the great resource potential of fractured gas hydrate and also provides a new way to further understand the prospect of natural gas hydrate and other oil and gas resources in Qilian Mountain permafrost area.

Marine hydrate reservoirs can be divided into focused high-flux and distributed low-flux gas hydrate systems according to free gas migration control mechanisms. In focused high-flux hydrate reservoirs, fluids easily break through the pressure of overlying sediments and reach the shallows, creating a series of geomorphological-geological-geophysical anomalies at and near the seafloor. Based on detailed interpretation of pre-drilling data in the eastern Pearl River Mouth Basin(PRMB),many anomalies related to the high-flux fluid flow are found, including seafloor mounds with intrusive characteristics, bright spot reflections above the bottom-stimulating reflector(BSR), phase reversals in the superficial layer, and an efficient fluid migration and accumulation system composed of fractures and uplifts. The second hydrate drilling expedition was carried out in the eastern PRMB in 2013 to study these anomalies. The acquired data show that high-flux fluid flow occurred in these sites. gas hydrate pingoes, bright spot reflection above the BSR, and an efficient fluid migration and accumulation system can be used as identification signatures for high-flux fluid migration. The modes of high flux fluid flow are different in deep and shallow sediments during upward migration of fluid. gas dissolved within migrating water dominates deep fluid migration and upward migration of a separate gas phase dominates the shallow process. This difference in migration models leads to formation of upper and lower concentrated hydrate reservoirs in the drilling area. The discovery of signatures of high-flux fluid flow and their migration modes will help with site selection and reduce risk in gas hydrate drilling.

Sand production is one of the main obstacles restricting gas extraction efficiency and safety from marine natural gas hydrate(NGH)*** migration within the NGH reservoir dominates sand production behaviors,while their relationships were rarely reported,severely constrains quantitative evaluation of sand production *** paper reports the optical observations of solid particle migration and production from micrometer to mesoscopic scales conditioned to gravel packing during depressurization-induced NGH dissociation for the first *** evolutionary modes of sand migration are established based on experimental observations,and its implications on field NGH are comprehensively *** particle migration regimes of local borehole failure,continuous collapse,wormhole expansion,extensive slow deformation,and pore-wall fluidization are proved to occur during *** types of particle migration regimes and their transmission modes during depressurization are predominantly determined by initial hydrate *** contrast,the depressurization mainly dominates the transmission rate of the particle migration ***,both the cumulative mass and the medium grain size of the produced sand decrease linearly with increasing initial methane hydrate(MH)*** gas bubble emission,expansion,and explosion during MH dissociation delay sand migration into the *** the same time,continuous water flow is a requirement for sand production during hydrate dissociation by *** experiments enlighten us that a constitutive model that can illustrate visible particle migration regimes and their transmission modes is urgently needed to bridge numerical simulation and field *** wellbore layout positions or special reservoir treatment shall be important for mitigating sand production tendency during NGH exploitation.

Long-chain n-alkanols and n-alkanes in core sediments from the northern South China Sea(SCS)were measured to make a comparison during terrestrial vegetation reconstruction from~42 ka to~7 *** results showed that terrestrial vegetation record from long-chain n-alkanes matched well with previous studies in nearby cores,showing that more C_(4)plants developed during the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM)and C_(3)plants dominated in the interglacial ***,these scenarios were not revealed by terrestrial vegetation reconstruction using long-chain n-alkanols,which showed C_(3)plant expansion during the *** discrepancy during the interglacial period could be attributed to the aerobic degradation of functionalized long-chain n-alkanols in the oxygen-rich bottom water,resulting in poor preservation of terrestrial vegetation *** the other hand,the different advantages of functionalized n-alkanols and non-functional n-alkanes to record local and distal vegetation signals,respectively,may offer a potential explanation for the contradiction during the LGM when the SCS was characterized by low-oxygen deep ***,large variations on n-alkyl lipid compositions in C_(3)/C_(4)plants could play a part in modulating sedimentary long-chain n-alkanols and n-alkanes toward different vegetation signals,thereby suggesting that caution must be taken in respect to the terrestrial vegetation reconstruction using long-chain n-alkanes and long-chain n-alkanols.

Micro-pore Structure and gas Accumulation Characteristics of Shale in the Longmaxi Formation, Northwest Guizhou

For further study on characteristics of micro-pores in the marine shale reservoirs in Northwest Guizhou,shale samples in the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation were selected to investigate effect of micro-pores on the characteristics of gas accumulation in shales,through methods of the argon broad ion beam-field emission scanning electron microscope and the nitrogen adsorption/desorption,analysis on the characteristics of micro-pores and related geochemical *** show that there are seven types of pores in the Longmaxi Formation shale,including interparticle pores,intraparticle pores,intercrystalline pores,dissolution pores,fossil pores,organic pores,and microfractures,among which the interparticle pores and organic pores are best *** to the nitrogen adsorption/desorption curves,the pore structures can be classified into three types,including the cylindrical pores with both opening ends,narrow parallel-plate pores and tapered parallel-plate pores with four opening *** of micro-pores ranges from 2 to 64 nm,mainly at 2-6 *** diameter of micro-pores(less than 2 nm)ranges from 0.4 to 1.8 nm,The micro-pores with a diameter of 0.4-1.0 nm contribute most to the pore *** volume is dominated by meso-pores(2-50 nm)with a proportion of 83.1%.The micro-pores and meso-pores make major contribution to the specific surface area of pores with proportions of 20.1%and 79.3%,*** total organic carbon(TOC)is the major factor controlling development of *** pore types have different characteristics of gas occurrence and migration,indicating that nanopores provide favorable conditions for the occurrence and microscopic migration of gas in shales.

Origin of natural sulfur-metal chimney in the Tangyin hydrothermal field,Okinawa Trough:constraints from rare earth element and sulfur isotopic compositions

For the first time,we present the rare earth element (REE)and sulfur isotopic composition of hydrothermal precipitates recovered from the Tangyin hydrothermal field (THF),Okinawa Trough at a water depth of 1206 *** natural sulfur samples exhibit the lowest ∑REE concentrations (∑REE= 0.65×10^-6-4.580×10^-6)followed by metal sulfides (∑REE=1.71×10^-6-11.63×10^-6).By contrast,the natural sulfur-sediment samples have maximum ∑REE concentrations (∑REE=1 1.54×10^-6-33.06×10^-6), significantly lower than those of the volcanic and sediment ***,the δEu,δCe,(La/Yb)N, La/Sm,(Gd/Yb)N and normalized patterns of the natural sulfur and metal sulfide show the most similarity to the *** hydrothermal precipitate samples are characterized by enrichments of LREE (LREE/HREE=10.09-24.53)arid slightly negative Eu anomalies or no anomaly (δEu=0.48-0.99),which are different from the hydrothermal fluid from sediment-free mid-oceanic ridges and back-are basins,but identical to the sulfides from the Jade hydrothermal *** lower temperature and more oxidizing conditions produced by the mixing between seawater and hydrothermal fluids further attenuate the leaching ability of hydrothermal fluid,inducing lower REE concentrations for natural sulfur compared with metal sulfide;meanwhile,the negative Eu anomaly is also weakened or almost *** sulfur isotopic compositions of the natural sulfur (δ^34S=3.20‰-5.01‰,mean 4.23 ‰)and metal sulfide samples (δ34S=0.82‰-0.89‰,mean 0.85‰)reveal that the sulfur of the chimney is sourced from magmatic degassing.

Many wellbores are blocked by asphaltene deposits,which lead to production problems in the oilfield development *** this paper,methods such as elemental analysis,and solvent extraction are adopted for the study of wellbore *** content of organic matter in blockages is higher than 96% and asphaltene is the main component of the organic matter with n-heptane asphaltene content of 38%.Based on the above analyses,an agent for asphaltene dispersion and removal（named as SDJ） was *** performance of the SDJ agent was evaluated,and it was found that the dissolution rate of asphaltene can reach 2.9 ***-1 at 60 *** agent（1wt%） was added to crude oil with a colloid instability index greater than 0.9 can effectively inhibit asphaltene deposition in the *** the viscosity method,the dissolution amount of SDJ agent was calculated,and it was found that when the viscosity of the system is around 2,000 mPa.s（the common viscosity of crude oil）,the amount of SDJ agent added to the blockage was at least 96 g per 100 g ***,SDJ agent has promising application for dispersion and removal of asphaltene deposition in high-asphaltene wells.
