Cholinergic projections from the basal forebrain and brainstem are thought to play important roles in rapid eye movement（REM） sleep and *** transgenic mice in which channelrhdopsin-2 is selectively expressed in cholinergic neurons,we show that optical stimulation of cholinergic inputs to the thalamic reticular nucleus（TRN） activates local GABAergic neurons to promote sleep and protect non-rapid eye movement（NREM） *** does not affect REM ***,direct activation of cholinergic input to the TRN shortens the time to sleep onset and generates spindle oscillations that correlate with NREM *** does so by evoking excitatory postsynaptic currents via a7-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and inducing bursts of action potentials in local GABAergic *** findings stand in sharp contrast to previous reports of cholinergic activity driving *** results provide new insight into the mechanisms controlling sleep.

Studies have found a U-shaped relationship between sleep duration and chronic kidney disease(CKD)risk,but limited research evaluated the association of reallocating excessive sleep to other behavior with *** included 104538 participants from the nationwide cohort of the Risk Evaluation of Cancers in Chinese Diabetic Individuals:A Longitudinal Study,with self-reported time of daily-life *** isotemporal substitution models,we found that substituting 1 h of sleeping with sitting,walking,or moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was associated with a lower CKD ***-time physical activity displacement was associated with a greater prevalence reduction than occupational physical activity in working *** stratified analysis,a lower CKD prevalence related to substitution toward physical activity was found in long *** pronounced correlations were observed in long sleepers with diabetes than in those with prediabetes,and they benefited from other behavior substitutions toward a more active *** U-shaped association between sleep duration and CKD prevalence implied the potential effects of insufficient and excessive sleep on the kidneys,in which the pernicious link with oversleep could be reversed by time reallocation to physical *** divergence in the predicted effect on CKD following time reallocation to behavior of different domains and intensities and in subpopulations with diverse metabolic statuses underlined the importance of optimizing sleeping patterns and adjusting integral behavioral composition.

Objective:Intermittent hypoxia(IH),as the most important pathophysiologic characteristic of obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) and a recognized risk factor for cardiovascular disorders,may lead to proliferation of smooth muscle cells(SMCs) and then pulmonary arterial remodeling through the RhoA/ROCK signaling *** this preliminary study,an IH animal model was developed,and the muscularization of small pulmonary arteries and RhoA/ROCK levels in these rats exposed to IH were ***:Model rats were exposed to IH[cycles of hypoxia(30s of 5%O) and normoxia(90s of 21%O)]or intermittent normoxia[cycles of normoxia(30s of 21%O) and normoxia(90s of 21%O)]for 4 weeks,9 AM to 5 PM in every *** of asmooth muscle actin(a-SMA) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) were used to measure muscularization and status of cell proliferation in small pulmonary ***-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and Western blot analyses were used to assess levels of RhoA and ROCK ***:A significantly increased ratio of a-SMA positive muscularized vessels and higher proliferative rate were observed in IH group compared with Control group(P < 0.05).Levels of RhoA/ROCK mRNA and protein in IH group were significantly higher than those in Control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion:Our preliminary data implicated that IH may induce proliferation of SMCs and then pulmonary arterial remodeling through the RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway,which may involve the development of PH.

To explore the relationship between social support and sleep quality of community workers in Wuhan during the coronavirus disease 2019(the COVID-19 infection epidemic),this research constructed a mediating effect model to explore the mediating psychological mechanism of social support inﬂuencing sleep quality of front-line community workers.A total of 500 front-line community workers in Wuhan were *** used the perceived social support scale(PSSS),the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC),the perceived stress scale(PSS),and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)to measure social support,psychological resilience,perceived stress and sleep ***,the higher the PSQI,the worse the sleep *** correlation structural equation model was used to analyze the relationship between these *** results showed that:(1)There was a significant negative correlation between social support,psychological resilience,and perceived stress of community workers and PSQI,that means,the higher the level of social support,psychological resilience,and perceived stress,the higher the sleep quality.(2)Social support positively predicted psychological resilience and perceived stress,and perceived stress negatively predicted PSQI.(3)Social support can affect sleep quality through the mediating role of psychological resilience and perceived stress,and the mediating role includes two paths:the single mediating role of perceived stress and the chain mediating role of psychological resilience-perceived stress.(4)Gender moderates the relation-ship between social support and perceived stress,and the inﬂuence of social support on perceived stress of women is higher than that of *** moderates the relationship between psychological resilience and PSQI,and only women’s psychological resilience had a negatively predictive effect on PSQI,while men did not,which means that psychological resilience of female frontline community workers can positively predict

Background： It is known that short sleep duration adversely affects children＇s behavior and physical development. This study aimed to investigate the status of sleep duration in 3-14-year-old children in Beijing and explore the related factors of sleep loss with them. Methods： In this study, a cross-sectional study of random stratified cluster sampling was conducted on 3-14-year-old children and adolescents in Beijing. According to the proportion of children in each district and school, the final cohort included a total of 11 kindergartens, 7 primary schools, and 8 junior high schools from 7 districts of Beijing. Children of sampled classes were included, and their parents were invited to fill a series of questionnaires including the simplified Chinese version of Pediatric sleep Questionnaire, sleep Questionnaire Scale, and Hong Kong-Children sleep Questionnaire about the performance of the last 6 months. Results： Out of the total 11,420 questionnaires, 9198 questionnaires were valid and effective with the response rate of 80.54%. The age of the investigated children was 8.8 ± 3.8 years, including 4736 males and 4462 females. The daily sleep duration of children in Beijing was 9.7 ± 0.7 h. The prevalence of sleep loss （〈9 h/day） of children in Beijing was 11.8%. The daily sleep duration of children aged 〈6, 6 ≤ age 〈11, and ≥11 years was 9.7 ± 0.6 h, 9.6 ± 0.6 h, and 9.5 ± 0.8 h, respectively. The sleep duration reduced significantly in children aged ≥11 years as compared to younger children in Beijing which was mainly contributed by the variation tendency of sleep duration on weekdays. The multivariate logistic regression analysis identified factors associated with sleep loss （P 〈 0.05）： male （odds ratio [OR] = 1.32, 95% confidence interval [CI ]： 1.15-1.51 ）, age ≥11 years （OR = 2.37, 95% CI： 1.92-2.93）, overweight （OR = 1.34, 95% CI： 1.17-1.54）, family history of snoring （OR - 1.35, 95% CI： 1.13-1.61 ） and activities before bedtime with watching TV （OR = 1.24, 95

RTT girls suffer periods of abnormal behavior from early infancy, including irritability and sleep disorders or anxiety in the first years of life, and a more depressed mood after adolescence, all of which influences their quality of life. An association between emotional and behavioral disorders and various neurochemical changes in the synapses of cortical and subcortical brain regions has been established;also, cortisol levels in the blood vary during stress. The main purpose of this study was to improve mood and behavior disorders in RTT patients with venlafaxine (SNRI), and compare the results with citalopram (SSRIs) during 6 - 8 weeks, to determine which drug offered greater efficacy and fewer side effects, as well as to compare them to risperidone, and to correlate cortisol levels in saliva with stress and drug response. Eleven patients, aged 5 to 26 years old, agreed to participate in this study;neuropsychological tests (Mullen and Vineland scales), quality of life and quality of sleep scales, blood tests, EKG and EEG were performed before and after treatment. Only 2 patients completed the three months trial. Improvement in mood and behavior was not statistically significant for patients;differences in neurodevelopment and quality of life or sleep scales were not significant either;no serious adverse effects were observed. Cortisol levels in saliva decreased in 50% of the patients after the first month of treatment, although this was not statistically significant.
