Coexistence of cervical extramedullary plasmacytoma and squamous cell carcinoma:A case report

BACKGROUND Extramedullary plasmacytoma(EMP),a variant form of myeloma,is a rare solid plasma cell tumor that originates from the bone marrow hematopoietic tissue and accounts for about 3%of all plasma cell *** can affect various tissues and organs,about 90%of which is found in the head and ***,EMP in the reproductive organs is rare,and is difficult to be distinguished from other primary or metastatic genital tumors according to clinical symptoms and imaging *** sUMMARY Herein,we report a case with coexistence of EMP and squamous cell carcinoma in the *** first histopathological report of neoplasms on the surface of the cervix and vagina showed an *** ultrasound and pelvic enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)indicated that there was a tumor in the ***,another cervical biopsy and pathological examination were performed,which indicated EMP combined with squamous cell ***,the patient underwent extensive total hysterectomy(type C1)+systemic lymph node dissection and received 25 external pelvic irradiations with a dose of 50 Gy following *** 2-year follow-up,no recurrence was *** In conclusion,EMP involving the reproductive system is relatively *** this case,MRI,B-ultrasound,and cervical canal scraping were used to further determine the diagnosis of EMP combined with squamous cell *** patient had improved prognosis after appropriate treatments.

HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA represses E-cadherin expression by binding to EZH2 in gastric cancer

AIM To clarify the mechanisms of HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA(HOTAIR) in gastric cancer(GC) migration and *** Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qp CR) was used to detect the expression level of HOTAIR in GC tissues. The correlation of its expression with clinicopathological features was analyzed. Area under receiver operating characteristic curve(AUCROC) was constructed to evaluate the diagnostic value of HOTAIR. Wound-healing assay and Transwell assay were performed to detect the biological effects of HOTAIR in GC cells. qp CR,western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate the m RNA and protein expression of E-cadherin. RNAbinding protein immunoprecipitation was used for the analysis of EZH2 interactions with HOTAIR. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay was performed to investigate direct interactions between EZH2 and *** The expression of HOTAIR was up-regulated in GC tumorous tissues compared with the para-tumorous tissues(p s over-expression was correlated with tumor-node-metastasis(TNM) stage(p = 0.024),tumor invasion(p = 0.018),lymph node metastasis(p = 0.023),and poor prognosis(p ssion analysis confirmed expression of HOTAIR as an independent predictor of overall survival(p = 0.033),together with TNM stage(p = 0.002) and lymph node metastasis(p = 0.002). The AUCROC was up to 0.709(95%CI: 0.623-0.785,p si RNA in GC cells suppressed the migration and invasion of GC cells. significantly negative correlation between HOTAIR and E-cadherin was found in GC tissues and cell lines,and HOTAIR contributed to the regulation of E-cadherin through binding to EZH2 with the E-cadherin promoter. CONCLUsION HOTAIR may play a pivotal role in tumor cell migration and invasion. It can be used as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for GC.

To the Editor:Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PREs) is a rare condition of the central nervous system (CNs).Clinically,it can present with headache,blurred vision,seizures,or *** diagnosis of PREs is based on the classic radiologic imaging studies at occipital and parietal lobes in the subcortical white matter,and sometimes in the *** encephalopathy,eclampsia,immunosuppressive agents,and cytotoxic drugs can cause PREs.A patient with PREs may recover without sequela after removal of the causative ***,uncertainty in diagnosis and delay in treatment would have probably aggravated CNs injuries or ***,the underlying mechanism of the disease remains unclear and controversial.

Contralateral needling at unblocked collaterals for hemiplegia following acute ischemic stroke

Hemiplegia caused by stroke indicates dysfunction of the network between the brain and limbs, namely collateral shock in the brain. Contralateral needling is the insertion of needles into acupoints on the relative healthy side of the body to treat diseases such as apoplexy. However, there is little well-designed and controlled clinical evidence for this practice. This study investigated whether contralateral needling could treat hemiplegia after acute ischemic stroke in 106 randomly selected patients with acute ischemic stroke. These patients were randomly assigned to three groups： 45 in the contralateral needling group, receiving acupuncture on the unaffected limbs; 45 in the conven- tional acupuncture group, receiving acupuncture on the hemiplegic limbs; and 16 in the control group, receiving routine treatments without acupuncture. Acupuncture at acupoints Chize （LU5） in the upper limb and Jianliao （TEl4） in the lower limb was performed for 45 minutes daily for 30 consecutive days. The therapeutic effective rate, Neurological Deficit score, Modified Barthel Index and FugI-Meyer Assessment were evaluated. The therapeutic effective rate of contralateral nee- dling was higher than that of conventional acupuncture （46.67% vs. 31.11%, P 〈 0.05）. The neuro- logical deficit score of contralateral needling was significantly decreased compared with conven- tional acupuncture （P 〈 0.01）. The Modified Barthel Index and FugI-Meyer Assessment score of contralateral needling increased more significantly than those of conventional acupuncture （both P 〈 0.01）. The present findings suggest that contralateral needling unblocks collaterals and might be more effective than conventional acupuncture in the treatment of hemiplegia following acute ischemic stroke.

Imaging findings of primary gastric plasmacytoma:A case report

Primary gastric plasmacytoma (GP) is a rare extramedullary plasmacytoma with clinical and imaging features that are common among other gastric tumors, such as gastric adenocarcinomas, gastric stromal tumors, and lymphomas. Here, we present a histologically conﬁrmed case of primary GP examined with biphasic computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and endosonography. A well-circumscribed extraluminal mass appearing as homogeneous attenuation/intensity with gradual enhancement was identified on biphasic enhancement CT and MRI. This mass was hyperintense on diffusion-weighted imaging and hypointense on the apparent diffusion coefficient map, implying that water diffusion in the mass was restricted. In addition, endosonography indicated a low echogenic mass in the gastric wall. These imaging findings increase the available knowledge about imaging of this disease and provide valuable information for differentiating primary GP from common gastric tumors.
