In this paper, the effect of adding an antiox- idant mixture in Jatropha biodiesel as fuel, in a single cylinder, direct injection compression ignition engine was experimentally investigated and the level of pollutants in the exhaust and performance characteristics of the engine were analyzed. Nine test fuels were prepared with three antioxidants, namely, Suecinimide （C4H5NO2）, N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine-dihydrochloride （C8H14C12N2）, and N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine （C6H5NHC6H4NH2） added to neat biodiesel at 500 parts per million （ppm）, 1000ppm and 2000ppm and the observed experimental results were compared with those of neat biodiese! and neat diesel as base fuels. The comparison showed that NO emission was reduced drastically for the test fuels with the antioxidant addition of 2000ppm. The maximum reduction of 10% of NO emission was observed for the antioxidant mixture in neat biodiesel, with a slight increase in unburned HC, CO and smoke opacity. In addition, the obtained experimental results reveal that the addition of two antioxidants as mixture in neat biodiesel caused improved NO emission reduction for all test fuels.

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a well-known nontraditional manufacturing process to machine the difficult-to-machine (DTM) materials which have unique hardness properties. Researchers have successfully performed hybridization to improve this process by incorporating powders into the EDM process known as powder-mixed EDM process. This process drastically improves process efficiency by increasing material removal rate, micro-hardness, as well as reducing the tool wear rate and surface roughness. EDM also has some input parameters, including pulse-on time, dielectric levels and its type, current setting, flushing pressure, and so on, which have a significant effect on EDM performance. However, despite their positive influence, investigating the effects of these parameters on environmental conditions is necessary. Most studies demonstrate the use of kerosene oil as dielectric fluid. Nevertheless, in this work, the authors highlight the findings with respect to three different dielectric fluids, including kerosene oil, EDM oil, and distilled water using one-variable-at-a-time approach for machining as well as environmental aspects. The hazard and operability analysis is employed to identify the inherent safety factors associated with powder-mixed EDM of WC-Co.

AIM： To investigate the effects of curcumin on gastric microcirculation and inflammation in rats with indo- methacin-induced gastric damage. METHODS： Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 （control group, n = 5） was fed with olive oil and 5% NaHCOf （vehicle）. Group 2 [indomethacin （IMN） group, n = 5] was fed with olive oil 30 min prior to indomethacin 150 mg/kg body weight （BW） dissolved in 5% NaHCO3- at time 0th and 4th h. Group 3 （INN ± Cur group, n = 4） was fed with curcumin 200 mg/kg BW dissolved in olive oil 0.5 mL, 30 min prior to indomethacin at 0th and 4th h. Leukocyte-endothelium interactions at postcapillary venules were recorded after acridine orange injection. Blood samples were determined for intercellular ad- hesion molecule （ICAM）-1 and tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-a levels using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay method. Finally, the stomach was removed for histopathological examination for gastric lesions and grading for neutrophil infiltration. RESULTS： In group 2, the leukocyte adherence in postcapillary venules was significantly increased com- pared to the control group （6.40±2.30 cells/frame vs 1.20 ± 0.83 cells/frame, P = 0.001）. Pretreatment with curcumin caused leukocyte adherence to postcapil- lary venule to decline （3.00±0.81 cells/frame vs 6.40 ± 2.30 cells/frame, P = 0.027）. The levels of ICAM-1 and TNF-aincreased significantly in the indomethacin- treated group compared with the control group （1106.50 ± 504.22 pg/mL vs 336.93 a= 224.82 pg/mL, P = 0.011 and 230.92±114.47 pg/mL vs 47.13±65.59 pg/mL, P = 0.009 respectively）. Pretreatment with curcumin sig- nificantly decreased the elevation of ICAM-1 and TNF-a levels compared to treatment with indomethacin alone （413.66 ± 147.74 pg/mL vs 1106.50 ± 504.22 pg/mL, P = 0.019 and 58.27 ± 67.74 pg/mL vs 230.92 ± 114.47 pg/mL, P = 0.013 respectively）. Lignocellulosic biomass is one of the viable solutions to alleviate the global warming. However, the limited utilization of biomass majorly focused on cellulose and hemicellulose restricts the economic and environmental feasibilities. To cope with this issue, we proposed an integrated process of co-producing 1,6-hexanediol（1,6-HDO） with tetrahydrofuran and adipic acid from biomass, referred to as Strategy A. To compare the impacts of lignin upgrading and feedstock, Strategy B, which co-produces tetrahydrofuran alone, and Strategy C, which is the traditional route to produce 1,6-HDO from fossil fuels, were used. Heat networks are also designed to reduce operating costs and indirect carbon emissions due to energy consumption, saving 87% and 83% of the heat and cooling requirements, respectively, in Strategy A. The market competitiveness of Strategy A was evaluated by determining the minimum selling price through techno-economic analysis, and sustainability was thoroughly investigated by quantifying the environmental impacts through both midpoint and endpoint life-cycle assessments（LCAs）.Strategy A was found to be the most favorable both economically（USRDSCHARDOLLAR3,402/ton） and environmentally（-26.9 kg CO2eq.）. This indicates that lignin valorization is not only economically but also environmentally preferred. Finally, changes in economic and environmental feasibilities depending on economic, process, and environmental parameters were investigated using sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. The results of these analyses provide valuable insight into bio-based chemical production.

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

Previous study showed that diapause in Bombyx mori eggs can be ter- minated by dechorionation and that activation in the mitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPK）/extracellular signal-regulated kinase （ERK） in dechorionated cultured eggs is involved in diapause termination. In the present study, the possible mechanism underlying activation of ERK upon dechorionation was further investigated. Results showed that me- chanical injury of diapause eggs without medium incubation also resulted in rapid increase in the phospho-ERK levels and that injury increased the phospho-ERK levels at different stages of both diapause eggs and eggs in which diapause initiation was prevented by HC1. Effects of anaerobiosis on dechorionation-stimulated phospho-ERK levels showed that the mechanical injury itself but not the dramatic increase in oxygen uptake upon injury is in- volved in a rapid activation of ERK. Chemical anaerobiosis on dechorionation-stimulated phospho-ERK levels and the in vivo effect of anaerobiosis showed that the supply of oxygen also plays a role in ERK signaling. In addition, injury induced the phosphory- lation of c-jun N-terminal kinases （JNKs） and p38 kinase, components of two parallel MAPK pathways. A kinase assay showed a dramatic increase in .INK kinase activity in egg lysates upon injury. When newly hatched first instar larvae were injured, an increase in the phospho-ERK levels similar to that in dechorionated eggs was observed. From the results, we hypothesize that the injury-induced rapid activation of MAPK signaling, which serves as a natural signal for embryonic development, is related to diapause termination in dechorionated eggs.

Safflower yellow injection combined with conventional therapy in treating unstable angina pectoris:a meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE： To evaluate the clinical efficacy of safflower yellow injection combined with conventional therapy in treating unstable angina ***： We searched online databases： Chinese journal full-text database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang database, Chinese journal full-text database, Pubmed, ScienceDirect,Embase, and the Cochrane Library with manual-screening of relevant literature. Eligible randomized controlled trials（RCT） on angina pectoris were included. We conducted meta-analysis using the RevMan 5.1 software from The Cochrane Collaboration. We treated the relief rate of angina symptoms and electrocardiograph（ECG） as ***： Seven articles, including in 1134 patients, were enrolled after the evaluation. Therewas no significant heterogeneity among the studies（χ2=1.08, df=6, P=0.98, I2=0%）. The safflower yellow injection with conventional therapy has a higher effective rate than the control group in relieving the symptoms of angina pectoris [odds ratio（OR）=2.95, 95%（CI）（1.81, 4.81）] and improving ischemic ECG [OR=2.85, 95% CI（1.67, 4.86）]. The difference was statistically significant in the ＂80 mg dosage＂ and ＂100 mg dosage＂ subgroups（P0.05） for improving clinical symptoms and ECG. The funnel graphic was nearly symmetrical. Sensitivity analysis suggested that the results were ***： Safflower yellow injection as an adjunct therapy with conventional drugs shows advantages in easing the clinical symptoms of unstable angina and improving ECG over basic therapy alone. However, the conclusions should be interpreted with care until more high-quality RCTs are reported.
