OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of Cuzhi liquid on learning and memory abilities in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease(AD).METHODs: One hundred mice were divided into the normal, AD model, piracetam group, Cuzhi liquid low dose and Cuzhi liquid high dose, each group 20 mice. The AD mouse model was induced by daily intraperitoneal injection of D-galactose and sodium nitrite. AD mice then received intragastric administration of piracetam or Cuzhi liquid for60 d, and changes in learning and memory abilities were assessed using the water maze test. The activity of acetylcholinsterase(AchE) and monamine oxidase(MAO), and the levels of nitrogen monoxidum(NO) and malonaldehyde(MDA), were measured in brain tissues. Primary gastric plasmacytoma (GP) is a rare extramedullary plasmacytoma with clinical and imaging features that are common among other gastric tumors, such as gastric adenocarcinomas, gastric stromal tumors, and lymphomas. Here, we present a histologically conﬁrmed case of primary GP examined with biphasic computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and endosonography. A well-circumscribed extraluminal mass appearing as homogeneous attenuation/intensity with gradual enhancement was identified on biphasic enhancement CT and MRI. This mass was hyperintense on diffusion-weighted imaging and hypointense on the apparent diffusion coefficient map, implying that water diffusion in the mass was restricted. In addition, endosonography indicated a low echogenic mass in the gastric wall. These imaging findings increase the available knowledge about imaging of this disease and provide valuable information for differentiating primary GP from common gastric tumors.

AIM: To compare matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 in gastric ulcer (GU) and chronic superficial gastritis (CsG). METHODs: This study enrolled 63 patients with GU and 25 patients with CsG. During upper gastroduodenal endoscopy, we took samples of gastric mucosa from the antrum and ulcer site from patients with GU, and samples of antral mucosa from patients with CsG. Mucosal biopsy tissues were cultured for 24 h, and the culture supernatant was measured for levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1. After receiving eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori ) and 8 wk proton-pump inhibitor therapy for GU, follow-up endoscopy examination was performed after 6 mo and whenever severe symptoms occurred. REsULTs: Levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 at the ulcer site or in the antrum were significantly higher in GU than CsG patients. MMP-9 levels at the ulcer site were significantly higher than in the antrum in GU patients, and had a significantly positive correlation with TIMP-1. MMP-9 levels were significantly higher in H. pylori -positive than H. pylori -negative GU and CsG patients. Levels of MMP-9 or TIMP-1 at the ulcer site were associated with the histological severity of activity and inflammation. About 57 GU patients were followed up, and seven had GU recurrence. H. pyloriinfection and MMP-9 levels were risk factors for the recurrence of GU adjusted for age and sex by multiple logistic regression analysis. CONCLUsION: MMP-9 may perform an important function in gastric ulcer formation and recurrence.

The most severe sequelae after rehabilitation from sARs are femoral head necrosis and pulmonary fibrosis. We performed a 15-year follow-up on the lung and bone conditions of sARs patients. We evaluated the recovery from lung damage and femoral head necrosis in an observational cohort study of sARs patients using pulmonary CT scans, hip joint MRI examinations, pulmonary function tests and hip joint function questionnaires. Eighty medical staff contracted sARs in 2003. Two patients died of sARs, and78 were enrolled in this study from August 2003 to March 2018. seventy-one patients completed the 15-year follow-up. The percentage of pulmonary lesions on CT scans diminished from 2003(9.40 ± 7.83)% to 2004(3.20 ± 4.78)%(P stable thereafter until 2018(4.60 ± 6.37)%. Between 2006 and 2018, the proportion of patients with interstitial changes who had improved pulmonary function was lower than that of patients without lesions, as demonstrated by the one-second ratio(FEV1/FVC%, t = 2.21, P = 0.04) and mid-flow of maximum expiration(FEF25%–75%, t = 2.76, P = 0.01). The volume of femoral head necrosis decreased significantly from 2003(38.83 ± 21.01)% to 2005(30.38 ± 20.23)%(P = 0.000 2), then declined slowly from 2005 to 2013(28.99 ± 20.59)% and plateaued until 2018(25.52 ± 15.51)%. Pulmonary interstitial damage and functional decline caused by sARs mostly recovered, with a greater extent of recovery within 2 years after rehabilitation. Femoral head necrosis induced by large doses of steroid pulse therapy in sARs patients was not progressive and was partially reversible.

AIM To investigate the efficacy and safety of a combination of sufentanil and propofol injection in patients undergoing endoscopic injection sclerotherapy(EIs) for esophageal varices(EVs). METHODs Patients with severe EVs who underwent EIs with sufentanil and propofol anesthesia between April 2016 and July 2016 at our hospital were reviewed. Although EIs and sequential therapy were performed under endotracheal intubation, we only evaluated the efficacy and safety of anesthesia for the first EIs procedure. Patients were intravenously treated with 0.5-1 μg/kg sufentanil. Anesthesia was induced with 1-2 mg/kg propofol and maintained using 2-5 mg/kg per hour of propofol. Information, regarding age, sex, weight, American Association of Anesthesiologists(AsA) physical status, Child-Turcotte-Pugh(CTP) classification, indications, preanesthetic problems, endoscopic procedure, successful completion of the procedure, anesthesia time, recovery time, and anesthetic agents, was recorded. Adverse events, including hypotension, hypertension, bradycardia, and hypoxia, were also *** Propofol and sufentanil anesthesia was provided in 182 procedures involving 140 men and 42 women aged 56.1± 11.7 years(range, 25-83 years). The patients weighed 71.4 ± 10.7 kg(range, 45-95 kg) and had AsA physical status classifications of Ⅱ(79 patients) or Ⅲ(103 patients). Ninety-five patients had a CTP classification of A and 87 had a CTP classification of B. Intravenous anesthesia was successful in all cases. The mean anesthesia time was 33.1 ± 5.8 min. The mean recovery time was 12.3 ± 3.7 min. Hypotension occurred in two patients(1.1%, 2/182). No patient showed hypertension during the endoscopic therapy procedure. BACKGROUND Primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus(PMME) is a rare malignant disease and has not been well characterized in terms of clinicopathology and *** To investigate the clinical features and survival factors in Chinese patients with *** The clinicopathological findings of ten cases with PMME treated at Henan Provincial people’s hospital were summarized. Moreover, the English-and Chinese-language literature that focused on Chinese patients with PMME from 1980 to september 2021 was reviewed and analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to investigate the clinicopathologic factors that might be associated with *** A total of 290 Chinese patients with PMME, including ten from our hospital and 280 from the literature were enrolled in the present study. Only about half of the patients(55.8%) were accurately diagnosed before surgery. Additionally, 91.1% of the patients received esophagectomy, and 88 patients(36.5%) received adjuvant therapy after surgery. The frequency of lymph node metastasis(LNM) was 51.2%(107/209), and LNM had a positive rate of 45.3% even when the tumor was confined to the submucosal layer. The risk of LNM increased significantly with the p T stage [P s ratio(OR): 2.47, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.72-3.56] and larger tumor size(P = 0.006, OR: 1.21, 95%CI: 1.05-1.38). The median overall survival(Os) was 11.0 mo(range: 1-204 mo). The multivariate Cox analysis showed both the p T stage [P = 0.005, hazard ratio(HR): 1.70, 95%CI: 1.17-2.47] and LNM(P = 0.009, HR: 1.78, 95%CI: 1.15-2.74) were independent prognostic factors for Os. Marfan syndrome is a systemic connective tissu disease that could affect the cardiovascular system and eventually lead to heart enlargement an heart failure with high mortality, mainly due t progressive heart failure and/or sudden cardia death caused by malignant arrhythmia. Cells are the fundamental units of biological systems and exhibit unique development trajectories and molecular features. Our exploration of how the genomes orchestrate the formation and maintenance of each cell, and control the cellular phenotypes of various organismsis, is both captivating and intricate. since the inception of the first single-cell RNA technology, technologies related to single-cell sequencing have experienced rapid advancements in recent years. These technologies have expanded horizontally to include single-cell genome, epigenome,proteome, and metabolome, while vertically, they have progressed to integrate multiple omics data and incorporate additional information such as spatial sc RNA-seq and CRIsPR screening. single-cell omics represent a groundbreaking advancement in the biomedical field,offering profound insights into the understanding of complex diseases, including cancers. Here, we comprehensively summarize recent advances in single-cell omics technologies, with a specific focus on the methodology section. This overview aims to guide researchers in selecting appropriate methods for single-cell sequencing and related data analysis.
