Deep eutectic solvents:Green multi-task agents for sustainable super green hydrogen technologies

While reliance on renewable energy resources has become a reality, there is still a need to deploy greener and more sustainable methods in order to achieve sustainable development goals. Indeed, green hydrogen is currently believed to be a reliable solution for global warming and the pollution challenges arising from fossil fuels, making it the resilient fuel of the future. However, the sustainability of green hydrogen technologies is yet to be achieved. In this context, generation of green hydrogen with the aid of deep eutectic solvents(DESs) as green mixtures has been demonstrated as a promising research area. This systematic review article covers green hydrogen generation through water splitting and biomass fermentation when DESs are utilized within the generation process. It also discusses the incorporation of DESs in fuel cell technologies. DESs can play a variety of roles such as solvent, electrolyte, or precursor;colloidal suspension and reaction medium;galvanic replacement, shape-controlling, decoration, or extractive agent;finally oxidant. These roles are relevant to several methods of green hydrogen generation, including electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and fermentation. As such, it is of utmost importance to screen potential DES formulations and determine how they can function in and contribute throughout the green hydrogen mobility stages. The realization of super green hydrogen generation stands out as a pivotal milestone in our journey towards achieving a more sustainable form of development;DESs have great potential in making this milestone achievable. Overall, incorporating DESs in hydrogen generation constitutes a promising research area and offers potential scalability for green hydrogen production, storage,transport, and utilization.

Silent battles:immune responses in asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection

SARS-CoV-2 infections manifest with a broad spectrum of presentations,ranging from asymptomatic infections to severe pneumonia and fatal *** review centers on asymptomatic infections,a widely reported phenomenon that has substantially contributed to the rapid spread of the *** such asymptomatic infections,we focus on the role of innate,humoral,and cellular ***,asymptomatic infections are characterized by an early and robust innate immune response,particularly a swift type 1 IFN reaction,alongside a rapid and broad induction of SARS-CoV-2-specific T ***,antibody levels tend to be lower or undetectable after asymptomatic infections,suggesting that the rapid control of viral replication by innate and cellular responses might impede the full triggering of humoral *** if antibody levels are present in the early convalescent phase,they wane rapidly below serological detection limits,particularly following asymptomatic ***,prevalence studies reliant solely on serological assays likely underestimate the extent of community exposure to the virus.

Post processing of additive manufactured Mg alloys:Current status,challenges,and opportunities

Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys are emerging as a structural material for the aerospace,automobile,and electronics industries,driven by the imperative of weight *** are also drawing notable attention in the medical industries owing to their biodegradability and a lower elastic modulus comparable to *** ability to manufacture near-net shape products featuring intricate geometries has sparked huge interest in additive manufacturing(AM)of Mg alloys,reflecting a transformation in the manufacturing ***,AM of Mg alloys presents more formidable challenges due to inherent properties,particularly susceptibility to oxidation,gas trapping,high thermal expansion coefficient,and low solidification *** leads to defects such as porosity,lack of fusion,cracking,delamination,residual stresses,and inhomogeneity,ultimately influencing the mechanical,corrosion,and surface properties of AM Mg *** address these issues,post-processing of AM Mg alloys are often needed to make them suitable for *** present article reviews all post-processing techniques adapted for AM Mg alloys to date,including heat treatment,hot isostatic pressing,friction stir processing,and surface *** utilization of these methods within the hybrid AM process,employing interlayer post-processing,is also *** post-processing conditions are reported,and their influence on the microstructure,mechanical,and corrosion properties are ***,future prospects and research directions are proposed.

Use of oilseed crops biomass for heavy metal treatment in water

The treatment of heavy metals in water is of high importance worldwide, and different treatment types have been developed. The use of plant material is becoming more and more important, and oilseed crops biomass have been investigated in terms of phytoremediation and biosorption processes. This article is a review of the literature reporting the applications in 10 different plants and evaluating the removal efficiencies for 12 metals, including the findings of 81 publications. Moringa olifera and Helianthus annuus are the most studied plants, whereas Cu (21.9%), Cd (18.5%), and Pb (19.9%) are the most studied metals. As a result, it was found that more than 90% of Pb, Cu, Cd, Fe, Zn, Ni, Cr, Sr and Mn showed removals in their experiments. At the same time, the variables most related to the efficiency of metal removal are pH, temperature, and contact time. This article includes a review of the biosorption isotherms used in the different studies. © 2024 the Oil Crop Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences

Rheological and stability analysis of cement pastes incorporating silica-based wastes

This study investigates the influence of waste characteristics,especially zeta potential,on the properties of cement pastes and *** focus is to evaluate the impact of the zeta potential of cement particles and waste materials on the sedimentation speed,rheology,and hardening time of stabilized cement *** Cement II F 40,retarder additive,silica,and fly ash were used in the *** pastes were prepared,and during the stabilization period,their rheological properties and pH were *** zeta potential and sedimentation speed of the cement and waste particles were measured at the pH that the pastes presented during the entire stabilization *** the stabilization period,the pastes were subjected to the hardening time *** zeta potential analyses revealed diverse values for the different powder types,with the cement particles exhibiting a zeta potential of−3.0 mV,the silica particles exhibiting−10.5 mV,and the fly ash particles exhibiting−20.3 *** influence of the high zeta potential modulus was observed on the sedimentation speed,with the solution containing fly ash exhibiting a speed of 40.01μm/s,whereas the solution containing only cement exhibited a speed of 99.38μm/*** the pastes,the results indicate that the presence of fly ash particles with a significantly negative zeta potential led to a 16%reduction in hardening time compared to particles with a lower modulus of zeta *** tests showed that the inclusion of fly ash particles prevented the formation of *** the zeta potential influenced agglomerate formation and hardening time,it was found to have no effect on yield stress or viscosity.

Integrated photonic fractional convolution accelerator

An integrated photonic circuit architecture to perform a modified-convolution operation based on the discrete fractional Fourier transform(DFrFT) is introduced. This is accomplished by utilizing two nonuniformly coupled waveguide lattices with equally spaced eigenmode spectra, the lengths of which are chosen so that the DFrFT and its inverse operations are achieved. A programmable modulator array is interlaced so that the required fractional convolution operation is performed. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed architecture can effectively perform smoothing and edge detection tasks even for noisy input signals, which is further verified by electromagnetic wave simulations. Notably, mild lattice defects do not jeopardize the architecture performance, showing its resilience to manufacturing errors. ? 2024 Chinese Laser Press
