To date, supramolecular chemistry is an ever growing research field owing to its crucial role in molecular catalysis, recognition, medicine, data storage and processing as well as artificial photosynthetic *** isolated supramolecules were prepared by molecular self-assembly on surfaces. This review mainly focuses on supramolecular aggregations on noble metal surfaces studied by scanning tunneling microscopy, including dimers, trimers, tetramers, pentamers, wire-like assemblies and Sierpin′ ski triangular fractals. The variety of self-assembled structures reflects the subtle balance between intermolecular and molecule–substrate interactions, which to some extent may be controlled by molecules, substrates and the molecular coverage. The comparative study of different architectures helps identifying the operative mechanisms that lead to the structural motifs. The application of these mechanisms may lead to novel assemblies with tailored physicochemical properties.

A large number of different types of second-order non-Hermitian degeneracies called exceptional points(EPs)were found in various physical systems depending on the mechanism of coupling between *** show that these EPs can be hybridized to form higher-order EPs,which preserve the original properties of the initial EPs before *** a demonstration,we hybridize chiral and supermode second-order EPs,where the former and the latter are the results of intra-disk and inter-disk mode coupling in an optical system comprised of two Mie-scale microdisks and one Rayleigh-scale *** high sensitivity of the resulting third-order EP against external perturbations in our feasible system is emphasized.

The RGD sequence generally exists in the extracellular matrix proteins and can be recognized by many integrin proteins. The binding ability of immobilized biotinylated cyclic hexapeptide [cyclo(-Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Lys-Gly-)] containing RGD to integrin ααbβ3 was tested by the methods of ELISA and SPR. Results showed that a spacer of 1.48-2.2 nm between the peptide and the biotin residue was long enough to send the RGD sequence into the binding center embedded within αⅡbβ3, and the equilibrium dissociation constant was 1.1μm. The work provides an ideal model system for the research of cell adhesion on solid surfaces.

Synchronized off-harmonic probe laser with highly variable pulse duration for laser-plasma interaction experiments

This paper presents the development and experimental utilization of a synchronized off-harmonic laser system designed as a probe for ultra-intense laser±plasma interaction experiments. The system exhibits a novel seed-generation design,allowing for a variable pulse duration spanning over more than three orders of magnitude, from 3.45 picoseconds to 10 nanoseconds. This makes it suitable for various plasma diagnostics and visualization techniques. In a side-view configuration, the laser was employed for interferometry and streaked shadowgraphy of a laser-induced plasma while successfully suppressing the self-emission background of the laser±plasma interaction, resulting in a signal-to-self-emission ratio of 110 for this setup. These properties enable the probe to yield valuable insights into the plasma dynamics and interactions at the PHELIX facility and to be deployed at various laser facilities due to its easy-to-implement design.

Quantum processes of inherent dynamical nature,such as quantum walks,defy a description in terms of an equilibrium statistical physics *** now,identifying the general principles behind the underlying unitary quantum dynamics has remained a key ***,we show and experimentally observe that split-step quantum walks admit a characterization in terms of a dynamical topological order parameter(DTOP).This integer-quantized DTOP measures,at a given time,the winding of the geometric phase accumulated by the wavefunction during a quantum *** observe distinct dynamical regimes in our experimentally realized quantum walks,and each regime can be attributed to a qualitatively different temporal behavior of the *** identifying an equivalent manybody problem,we reveal an intriguing connection between the nonanalytic changes of the DTOP in quantum walks and the occurrence of dynamical quantum phase transitions.

The study of open quantum systems is important for fundamental issues of quantum physics as well as for technological applications such as quantum information processing. The interaction of a quantum system with its environment is usually detrimental for the quantum properties of the system and leads to decoherence. However,sometimes a quantum control can lead to a coherent partial exchange of information between the system and the dynamics of the open system might become non-Markovian. In this article, we study experimentally discrete nonMarkovian open quantum system dynamics. We implement a local control protocol using linear optics for controlling the information flow between the open system and the environment. We show how the transition from Markovian to non-Markovian dynamics can be controlled using only local operations for the open system.

Green’s Function Approach to the Bose-Hubbard Model

We use a diagrammatic hopping expansion to calculate finite-temperature Green functions of the Bose-Hubbard model which describes bosons in an optical lattice. This technique allows for a summation of subsets of diagrams, so the divergence of the Green function leads to non-perturbative results for the boundary between the superfluid and the Mott phase for finite temperatures. Whereas the first-order calculation reproduces the seminal mean-field result, the second order goes beyond and shifts the phase boundary in the immediate vicinity of the critical parameters determined by high-precision Monte-Carlo simulations of the Bose-Hubbard model. In addition, our Green’s function approach allows for calculating the excitation spectrum both for zero and finite temperature and for determining the effective masses of particles and holes.
