The intensity of extreme weather events has been increasing,posing a unique threat to society and highlighting the importance of our electrical power system,a key component in our *** severe weather events,quickly identifying power outage impact zones and affected communities is crucial for informed disaster ***,a lack of household-level power outage data impedes timely and precise *** address these challenges,we introduced an analytical workflow using NASA’s Black Marble daily nighttime light(NTL)images to detect power outages from the 2021 Winter Storm *** workflow includes adjustments to mitigate viewing angle and snow reflection *** outage is detected by comparing storm-time and baseline(normal condition)NTL images using an empirical adjusted *** outcomes of the workflow are 500-meter resolution power outage maps,which have the optimal correlation with real outage tracking data when NTL intensity is reduced by 26%.With the resultant power outage maps,we analyzed the relations between power outages and disadvantaged populations in 126 Texas counties and 4182 census tracts to evaluate environmental justice in the *** results show that Latino/Hispanic communities tend to suffer more from power outages at both the county and census tract levels.

In the present review, we have selected advances in electrospinning nanofibers that we envision to be embedded in textiles and wearables. These nanofibers have been proven to be excellent options for applications such as power generation, sensing, and communication. Their similitude with already known woven meshes makes these fibers perfect for electronically active *** fibers offer well known characteristics such as mechanical flexibility, high surface area-to-volume ratio, light weight and can be tuned by carefully selecting the active materials in the precursor solution. Here we will discuss polymers with electroactive, piezoelectric, triboelectric and their composites that have been used in fiber structures by using the electrospinning technique.

The alpha (α)-hematite (Fe2O3) as photoanode has been used for photoelectrochemical applications due to low bandgap, low cost, high chemical stability, nontoxicity, and abundance in nature. The doping with various transition metals, formation of nanostructured and nanocomposite of α-Fe2O3 have been attempted to enrich the carrier mobility, surface kinetics and carrier diffusion properties. The manuscript is an attempt to improve the photoelectrochemical properties of α-Fe2O3 by formation of nanocomposite with dichalcogenide (molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanomaterials. The nanocomposite of MoS2-α-Fe2O3 have been synthesized by varying the amount of MoS2 in sol-gel synthesis process. The nanocomposite MoS2-α-Fe2O3 materials were characterized using UV-visible, FTIR, SEM, X-ray diffraction, Raman and particle analyzer. The photoelectrochemical properties were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry studies. The optical and structural properties of MoS2-α-Fe2O3 nanocomposite have been found to be dependent on MoS2 doping. The band gap has shifted whereas;the structure is more prominent as flower-like morphology, which is a result of doping of MoS2. The photocurrent is more pronounced with and without light exposition to MoS2-α-Fe2O3 based electrode in photoelectrochemical cell. We have understood the photoelectrochemical water splitting using nanocomposite α-Fe2O3-MoS2 through schematic representation based on experimental results. The enhanced photoelectrochemical properties of nanocomposite α-Fe2O3-MoS2 films have been observed as compared to pristine α-Fe2O3 and transition metal doped α-Fe2O3 nanostructured films.

Arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase(aaNAT),considered a potential new insecticide target,catalyzes the acetylation of arylalkylamine substrates such as serotonin and dopamine and,hence,mediates diverse functions in ***,the origin of insect aaNATs(iaaNATs)and the evolutionary process that generates multiple aaNATs in mosquitoes remain largely ***,we have analyzed the genomes of 33 species to explore and expand our understanding of the molecular evolution of this gene family in *** show that aaNAT orthologs are present in Bacteria,Cephalochordata,Chondrichthyes,Cnidaria,Crustacea,Mammalia,Placozoa,and Teleoste,as well as those from a number of insects,but are absent in some species of Annelida,Echinozoa,and Mollusca as well as ***,more than 10 aaNATs were detected in the Culicinae subfamily of *** evolutionary analysis of aaNAT/aaNAT-like genes in mosquitoes reveals that tandem duplication events led to gene expansion in the Culicinae subfamily of mosquitoes more than 190 million years *** selection analysis demonstrates that mosquito aaNATs evolved under strongly positive pressures that generated functional diversity following gene duplication ***,this study may provide novel insights into the molecular evolution of the aaNAT family in mosquitoes.

Most epidemiology reports indicate that brain tumor rates in whites are higher than other populations and that they are more common in males than females. In this report, we analyze incidence patterns in registry data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program in different histological groups, racial/gender combinations and compare the overall and age-specific incidence rates. Our analysis shows statistically significant racial differences in rates for astrocytomas non-otherwise specified in both sexes, and unspecified malignant intracranial intraspinal neoplasms for females. Those of other specified intracranial and intraspinal neoplasms in females are higher than males, indicating the importance of biological differences. Other glioma young age rates peak after the age of five, the peak is higher for the black race. The study demonstrated several distinctive patterns in the rates by histological subtypes and showed differentiation in the age at diagnosis, giving insight on potential true changes in different subpopulations.

Investigation of Physical Properties of Graphene-Cement Composite for Structural Applications

The hydration of cement generates heat due to the exothermic nature of the hydration process. Poor heat dissipation in mass concrete results in a temperature gradient between the inner core and the outer surface of the element. High temperature gradients generate tensile stresses that may exceed the tensile strength of concrete thus leading to thermal cracking. The present paper is an attempt to understand the thermal (heat sink property) and microstructural changes in the hydrated graphene-Portland cement composites. Thermal diffusivity and electrical conductivity of the hydrated graphene-cement composite were measured at various graphene to cement ratios. The mass-volume method was implemented to measure the density of the hydrated graphene-cement composite. Particle size distribution of Portland cement was measured by using a laser scattering particle size analyzer. Heat of hydration of Portland cement was assessed by using a TAMAIR isothermal conduction calorimeter. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was implemented to study microstructural changes of the hydrated graphene-cement composites. The mineralogy of graphene-cement and the hydrated graphene-cement composites was investigated by using X-ray diffraction. The findings indicate that incorporation of graphene enhances the thermal properties of the hydrated cement indicating a potential for reduction in early age thermal cracking and durability improvement of the concrete structures.

The continuous wavelet projections algorithm: A practical spectral-feature-mining approach for crop detection

Spectroscopy can be used for detecting crop characteristics. A goal of crop spectrum analysis is to extract effective features from spectral data for establishing a detection model. An ideal spectral feature set should have high sensitivity to target parameters but low information redundancy among ***, feature-selection methods that satisfy both requirements are lacking. To address this issue,in this study, a novel method, the continuous wavelet projections algorithm(CWPA), was developed,which has advantages of both continuous wavelet analysis(CWA) and the successive projections algorithm(SPA) for generating optimal spectral feature set for crop detection. Three datasets collected for crop stress detection and retrieval of biochemical properties were used to validate the CWPA under both classification and regression scenarios. The CWPA generated a feature set with fewer features yet achieving accuracy comparable to or even higher than those of CWA and SPA. With only two to three features identified by CWPA, an overall accuracy of 98% in classifying tea plant stresses was achieved, and high coefficients of determination were obtained in retrieving corn leaf chlorophyll content(R^(2)= 0.8521)and equivalent water thickness(R^(2)= 0.9508). The mechanism of the CWPA ensures that the novel algorithm discovers the most sensitive features while retaining complementarity among features. Its ability to reduce the data dimension suggests its potential for crop monitoring and phenotyping with hyperspectral data.

The object of our present study is to develop a piecewise constant hazard model by using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to capture the complex shapes of the hazard functions, which cannot be achieved with conventional survival analysis models like Cox proportional hazard. We propose a more convenient approach to the PEANN created by Fornili et al. to handle a large amount of data. In particular, it provides much better prediction accuracies over both the Poisson regression and generalized estimating equations. This has been demonstrated with lung cancer patient data taken from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program. The quality of the proposed model is evaluated by using several error measurement criteria.

Time series models are very powerful methods that help to drive hidden visions of a phenomenon and make informed future decisions. The purpose of this study is to develop statistical time series forecasting models to predict atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration in the Middle East and temperature in Saudi Arabia using multiplicative seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average models. We proceed to verify the quality and usefulness of our proposed probabilistic models by utilizing essential statistical properties to evaluate them according to their performance in forecasting the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the corresponding temperatures and it was shown that both statistical forecasting models produced good estimates.
