Ecotoxicological effects of mixed pollutants resulted from e-wastes recycling and bioaccumulation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers in Chinese loach(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus)

To understand potential ecotoxicological effects of electrical and electronic equipment waste （e-waste） recycling and polybrominated diphenyl ethers （PBDEs） bioaccumulation in loaches, a semi-field experiment using Chinese loach （Misgurnus anguiUicaudatus） as experimental fish was performed. Larval loaches were kept in net-cage for three months in an e-wastes recycling site and a reference site in Southeastern China. There was significant difference of the survival rate between the loaches from the e-wastes recycling site （27%, 19/70） and from reference site （70%, 49/70）. Histopathological responses were also found in all the livers examined in loaches from the e-wastes recycling site. These results showed that mixed pollutants resulted from e-wastes recycling led to ecotoxicological effects on loaches. The bioaccumulation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers （PBDEs）, the main pollutants in e-waste, in loaches was also studied, the mean concentration of total PBDEs in sediment was 6726.17 ng/g wet weight and in water samples was 4.08 ng/L （dissolved phase）. BDE 209 was the dominant congener in sediment and with relatively high concentration in water. Relatively low concentration of BDE 209 （less than 0.01% of total PBDEs） and high concentration of BDE47 （up to 39.34% of total PBDEs） were detected in loaches.

Two unusual one-dimensional（1-D） compounds,viz.[Co（Medpq）（QUI）·H2O]2n· 2.4nH2O 1 and [Cd（Medpq）（QUI）·H2O]n·nH2O 2,were synthesized by the combination of two different metallic salts and organic ligands,namely 2,3-pyridinedicarboxylic acid（H2QUI） and 2-methyldipyrido[3,2-f：2＇,3＇-h]quinoxaline（Medpq） *** compounds were characterized by elemental analyses,TG,fluorescent emission and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

One-pot synthesis of Ag-rich AgPd alloy nanoactiniae and their enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward oxygen reduction

The electro-catalytic properties can be effectively optimized by designing bimetallic alloy nanoparticles with high-content less-active metal to enhance the competence of more-active noble metal. Herein, a one-pot hydrothermal approach is demonstrated for the controllable synthesis of Ag-rich Ag_9Pd_1 alloy nanoactiniae with obviously enhanced electro-catalytic activity(2.23 mA cm^(-2) at 0.85 V) and stability for oxygen reduction reaction. In alkaline solution, the ORR onset potential and half-wave potential of the Ag_9Pd_1 alloy nanoactiniae can reach a value of 1.02 V and 0.89 V, respectively, which origin from strong ligand and ensemble effects between Pd element and Ag element. The nanocrystals are uniformly alloyed, displaying a Ag_9Pd_1 combination, as displayed by an assembly of X-ray diffraction(XRD) spectrum,energy dispersive X-ray(EDX) analysis, and cyclic voltammetry(CV). This concept of tuning bimetallic alloy nanocrystals with low concentrations of more precious metal may be a promising approach to be applicable to a wide range of alloy nanocrystals.

Improved Five-Parameter Exponential-Type Potential Energy Model for Diatomic Molecules

The dissociation energy and equilibrium bond length as explicit parameters are used to establish an improved five-parameter exponential-type potential energy model for diatomic molecules. We demonstrate that the five-parameter exponential-type potential is identical to the Tietz potential for diatomic molecules. It is observed that the improved five-parameter exponential-type potential can well model the internuclear interaction potential energy curve for the ground electronic state of the carbon monoxide molecule by the utilization of the experimental values of three molecular constants.

Static sensitivity calculation of a novel fiber optic biosensor

A novel structure of fiber optic biosensor and its principle are introduced. The sample is detected in microchannels of several microns diameter in fiber optic biosensors. The relation between the optic fiber tapered angle and the fluorescence incident angle is calculated in signal receiving part. As the sensor is a zero-order system, calculating formula of the static sensitivity is derived. When ZnSe nano-crystalline cluster is used for marking the molecules, the static sensitivity for fiber optic biosensors is calculated. At the same time, the relation between the static sensitivity and the ratio of exciting wavelength to fluorescence wavelength is presented.

Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) in blood from children (age 9–12) in taizhou, China

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers （PBDEs） as ubiquitous persistent organic pollutants have attracted much attention in recent years. Exposure to PBDEs could induce a high health risk for children. The aim of this study was to investigate the PBDEs exposure of children （9–12 years） from taizhou, China. Fifty-eight blood samples were collected in one school in a mountainous area in taizhou. The concentrations of ∑9PBDEs （sum of BDE-28, -47, -99, -100, -153, -154, -183, -197 and -209） ranged from 2.66 to 33.9 ng/g lipid wet （lw） with a median of 7.22 ng/g lw. These concentrations were lower than those of children in USA, but close to European and Asian general population levels. The results showed that children in taizhou countryside were at a low level of PBDEs exposure. The predominant congener was BDE-209, followed by BDE-28, -47, -197 and -153. High abundance of BDE-209 was consistent with the pollution background of PBDEs in China characterized by high brominated congeners as main pollutants.

Ellipsometric analysis and optical absorption characterization of gallium phosphide nanoparticulate thin film

Gallium phosphide （GAP） nanoparticulate thin films were easily fabricated by colloidal suspension deposition via GaP nanoparticles dispersed in N,N-dimethylformamide. The microstructure of the film was performed by x-ray diffraction, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The film was further investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry. After the model GaP＋void[SiO2 was built and an effective medium approximation was adopted, the values of the refractive index n and the extinction coefficient k were calculated for the energy range of 0.75 eV-4.0 eV using the dispersion formula in DeltaPsi2 software. The absorption coefficient of the film was calculated from its k and its energy gaps were further estimated according to the Tauc equation, which were further verified by its fluorescence spectrum measurement. The structure and optical absorption properties of the nanoparticulate films are promising for their potential applications in hybrid solar cells.

Synthesis,Crystal Structure and Antitumor Activity of a Novel Zn(Ⅱ)Complex with 2-(Nicotinoyloxy)acetic Acid Ligand

A novel Zn（Ⅱ） complex, [ZnL2（H2O）4]·H2O（1, HL = 2-（nicotinoyloxy）acetic acid）, was synthesized using Zn（OAc）2·2H2O and 2-（nicotinoyloxy）acetic acid as raw materials. Its structure has been elucidated by elemental analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structural analysis revealed that complex 1 crystallizes in triclinic, space group P1 and the Zn（Ⅱ） atom is six-coordinated with two N atoms from two different 2-（nicotinoyloxy）acetate anion ligands and four O atoms from coordinated water molecules. Complex 1 forms a 3D network structure by O–H···O hydrogen bonds. The antitumor activities of 2-（nicotinoyloxy）acetic acid ligand and its Zn（Ⅱ） complex were evaluated against human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells, human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells and human colon carcinoma Wi Dr cells.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers in chicken tissues and eggs from an electronic waste recycling area in southeast China

The levels and distributions of polybrominated diphenyl ethers （PBDEs） in chicken tissues from an electronic waste （e-waste） recycling area in southeast China were investigated. Human dietary intake by local residents via chicken muscle and eggs was estimated. The mean PBDEs concentrations in tissues ranged from 15.2 to 3138.1 ng/g lipid weight （lw） and in egg the concentration was 563.5 ng/g lw. The results showed that the level of total PBDEs （∑PBDEs） in the chicken tissue was 2-3 orders of magnitude higher than those reported in the literature. The large difference of ∑PBDEs concentrations between tissues confirmed that the distribution of PBDEs in tissues depend on tissue-specificity rather than the ＂lipid-compartment＂. BDE-209 was the predominant congener （82.5%- 94.7% of ∑PBDEs） in all chicken tissues except in brain （34.7% of ∑PBDEs）, which indicated that deca-BDE （the major commercial PBDE formulation comprising 65%-70% of total production） was major pollution source in this area and could be bioaccumulated in terrestrial animals. The dietary PBDEs intake of the local residents from chicken muscle and egg, assuming only local bred chickens and eggs were consumed, ranged from 2.2 to 22.5 ng/（*** body weight （bw）） with a mean value of 13.5 ng/（day-kg bw）, which was one order of magnitude higher than the value reported in previous studies for consumption of all foodstuffs.
