Genetically-and environmentally-dependent processes drive interspecific and intraspecific divergence in the Chinese relict endemic genus Dipteronia

China is a hotspot of relict plant species that were once widespread throughout the Northern *** research has demonstrated that the occurrence of long-term stable refugia in the mountainous regions of central and south-western China allowed their persistence through the late Neogene climate *** of these relict lineages is Dipteronia,an oligotypic tree genus with a fossil record extending to the ***,we investigated the genetic variability,demographic dynamics and diversification patterns of the two currently recognized Dipteronia species(Dipteronia sinensis and ***).Molecular data were obtained from 45 populations of Dipteronia by genotyping three cpDNA regions,two single copy nuclear genes and 15 simple sequence repeat *** genetic study was combined with niche comparison analyses on the environmental space,ecological niche modeling,and landscape connectivity *** found that the two Dipteronia species have highly diverged both in genetic and ecological *** the incipient speciation processes that can be observed in ***,the occurrence of long-term stable refugia and,particularly,a dispersal corridor along Daba Shan-west Qinling,likely ensured its genetic and ecological integrity to *** study will not only help us to understand how populations of Dipteronia species responded to the tectonic and climatic changes of the Cenozoic,but also provide insight into how Arcto-Tertiary relict plants in East Asia survived,evolved,and diversified.

Optical information transmission is vital in modern optics and photonics due to its concurrent and multi-dimensional nature,leading to tremendous applications such as optical microscopy,holography,and optical *** optical information transmission technologies suffer from bulky optical setup and information loss/crosstalk when meeting scatterers or obstacles in the light ***,we theoretically propose and experimentally realize the simultaneous manipulation of the coherence lengths and coherence structures of the light beams with the disordered *** ultra-robust optical information transmission and self-reconstruction can be realized by the generated partially coherent beam with modulated coherence structure even 93%of light is recklessly obstructed during light transmission,which brings new light to robust optical information transmission with a single *** method provides a generic principle for the generalized coherence manipulation on the photonic platform and displays a variety of functionalities advancing capabilities in optical information transmission such as meta-holography and imaging in disordered and perturbative media.

Exploring the characteristics of microbial community and enzyme activity in the aged refuse landfill environment of taiyuan, China

Municipal solid waste landfill is the main disposal option for domestic garbage, in which microbial activities play an important role. However, despite the widespread practice of landfilling, the metagenomic microbial profiles of landfill sites remain poorly characterized. In this study, we used a combination of physicochemical analysis, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, and high-throughput Illumina shotgun sequencing to systematically investigate the changes in soil enzyme activities, microbial community structure, and functional attributes in aged refuse collected from the Xingou Municipal Solid Waste Landfill in taiyuan, China, with ordinary topsoil from an area within 5 km of the landfill as control soil. Except for neutral phosphatase (P=0.065), the activities of urease, laccase, dehydrogenase, sucrase, neutral protease, and β-glucosidase were all significantly reduced (P <0.05) in the aged refuse compared with the control soil. Contrastingly, catalase activity was found to be significantly elevated in the aged refuse. Compared with the control soil, aged refuse was characterized by higher richness and diversity of microbial communities, as reflected by the higher values of community richness estimators (Chao 1 and ACE) and diversity indices (Shannon and Simpson). In total, 186 phyla, 4 354 genera, and 34 459 species were identified, with 132 phyla, 1 914 genera, and7 369 species showing significantly different abundances between the aged refuse and the control soil. Actinobacteria and Acidobacteria were identified as the dominant phyla in the control soil, whereas Proteobacteria, Euryarchaeota (archaea), and Firmicutes were found to predominate in the aged ***, Euryarchaeota and Methanoculleus were the major taxa detected in the aged refuse, but were almost completely absent in the control soil. Performance of Ag_(2)O/Ag Electrode as Cathodic Electron Acceptor in Microbial Fuel Cell

An Ag2O/Ag electrode was prepared through the electrochemical oxidation of sterling silver. This electrode was used as a cathodic electron acceptor in a microbial fuel cell （MFC）. The Ag2O/Ag electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and linear sweep voltammetry. The maximum voltage output of the MFC with the AgaO/Ag cathode was maintained at between 0.47 and 0.5 V in 100 cycles, indicating the good regenerative capacity of the Ag2O/Ag electrode. The overpotential loss for silver oxide was 0.021-0.006 V, and the maximum power output, open circuit potential and short circuit current of the MFC were 1.796 W m^-3, 0.559 V and 9.3375 A m^-3, respectively. The energy required for electrochemical reoxidation ranged from 40% to 55% of the energy produced by the MFC. Results indicated that the AgeO/Ag electrode could be used as a cathodic electron acceptor in MFCs with excellent stability.

Hydrogen Production Using ‘‘Direct-Starting” Biocathode Microbial Electrolysis Cell and the Analysis of Microbial Communities

In this study, a ‘‘direct-starting'' procedure was used to activate a single-chamber biocathode microbial electrolysis cell(MEC) and the development of a biocathode was studied through output current curves and cyclic voltammograms. It only took 163 h for a successful start-up, and a current density of 14.75 A/m^2 was obtained. In the formal hydrogen-production stage, it was found that the biocathode MEC was comparable with the Pt/C cathode MEC in terms of current density and energy efficiency, and the hydrogen recovery, cathodic hydrogen recovery, and hydrogen production rate of the biocathode MEC were 71.22% ± 8.98%, 79.42% ± 5.94%, and 0.428 ± 0.054 m^3 H_2/m^3 days, respectively, which were slightly higher than those obtained with the Pt/C cathode MEC. Besides, under the effect of applied voltage, the microbial populations in the anodophilic biofilm of MEC(MECan) and the cathodophilic biofilm of MEC(MECca) were less diverse than those of the original aerobic activated sludge(AAS) and the anodophilic biofilm of MEC(MECan). Furthermore, the microbial community structures evidently differed between MECan/MECca and AAS/MFC.

Effects of long-term warming on the aboveground biomass and species diversity in an alpine meadow on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of China

Ecosystems in high-altitude regions are more sensitive and respond more rapidly than other ecosystems to global climate *** Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP)of China is an ecologically fragile zone that is sensitive to global climate *** is of great importance to study the changes in aboveground biomass and species diversity of alpine meadows on the QTP under predicted future climate *** this study,we selected an alpine meadow on the QTP as the study object and used infrared radiators as the warming device for a simulation experiment over eight years(2011-2018).We then analyzed the dynamic changes in aboveground biomass and species diversity of the alpine meadow at different time scales,including an early stage of warming(2011-2013)and a late stage of warming(2016-2018),in order to explore the response of alpine meadows to short-term(three years)and long-term warming(eight years).The results showed that the short-term warming increased air temperature by 0.31℃and decreased relative humidity by 2.54%,resulting in the air being warmer and *** long-term warming increased air temperature and relative humidity by 0.19℃and 1.47%,respectively,and the air tended to be warmer and *** short-term warming increased soil temperature by 2.44℃and decreased soil moisture by 12.47%,whereas the long-term warming increased soil temperature by 1.76℃and decreased soil moisture by 9.90%.This caused the shallow soil layer to become warmer and drier under both short-term and long-term ***,the degree of soil drought was alleviated with increased warming *** the long-term warming,the importance value and aboveground biomass of plants in different families *** importance values of grasses and sedges decreased by 47.56%and 3.67%,respectively,while the importance value of weeds increased by 1.37%.Aboveground biomass of grasses decreased by 36.55%,while those of sedges and weeds increased by 8.09%and 15.24%,*** increase

Effect of Precipitated Phases on Corrosion of Mg95.8Gd3Zn1Zr0.2 Alloy with Long-Period Stacking Ordered Structure

The microstructure of the precipitated phases of ***3Zn1Zro.2 alloys with long-period stacking ordered structure before and after heat treatment is discussed. The corrosion properties of the as-cast （F）, solid-solution （T4） and aging-treated （T6） alloys in 1% NaC1 solution are studied. The hydrogen evolution and electrochemical measurements display that the as-cast ***3Zn1Zro.2 alloy with the continuous network eutectic phase exhibits the greatest corrosion resistance, while T6 sample with some needle-like phases and the particle phases is the worst among the three alloys. It is proposed to be mainly related to the amount, composition, microstructure and distribution of the precipitated phases.

Quantized vortices in spinor Bose–Einstein condensates with time–space modulated interactions and stability analysis

The three-component Gross–Pitaevskii equation with an angular momentum rotational term can be served as a model to study spinor Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) with time–space modulated interactions. Vortex solutions of the spinor BECs with spatiotemporally modulated interactions are worked out by similarity transformation. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of vortex states are demonstrated. Stable vortex states are obtained by adjusting the frequency of the external potential and the spatiotemporally modulated interaction.
