Plasmon-assisted mode selection lasing in a lanthanide-based microcavity

Lanthanide-based microlasers have attracted considerable attention owing to their large anti-Stokes shifts,multiple emission bands,and narrow *** applications of microlasers,such as optical communication,optical storage,and polarization imaging,require selecting the appropriate laser polarization mode and remote control of the laser ***,we propose a unique plasmon-assisted method for the mode selection and remote control of microlasing using a lanthanide-based microcavity coupled with surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs)that propagate on a silver *** this method,the transverse electrical(TE)mode of microlasers can be easily separated from the transverse magnetic(TM)*** the SPPs excited on the silver microplate only support TM mode propagation,the reserved TE mode is resonance-enhanced in the microcavity and amplified by the local electromagnetic ***,lasingmode splitting can be observed under the near-field excitation of SPPs due to the coherent coupling between the microcavity and mirror microcavity *** from the long-distance propagation characteristics of tens of micrometers of SPPs on a silver microplate,remote excitation and control of upconversion microlasing can also be *** plasmon-assisted polarization mode-optional and remote-controllable upconversion microlasers have promising prospects in on-chip optoelectronic devices,encrypted optical information transmission,and high-precision sensors.

Quantum processes of inherent dynamical nature,such as quantum walks,defy a description in terms of an equilibrium statistical physics *** now,identifying the general principles behind the underlying unitary quantum dynamics has remained a key ***,we show and experimentally observe that split-step quantum walks admit a characterization in terms of a dynamical topological order parameter(DTOP).This integer-quantized DTOP measures,at a given time,the winding of the geometric phase accumulated by the wavefunction during a quantum *** observe distinct dynamical regimes in our experimentally realized quantum walks,and each regime can be attributed to a qualitatively different temporal behavior of the *** identifying an equivalent manybody problem,we reveal an intriguing connection between the nonanalytic changes of the DTOP in quantum walks and the occurrence of dynamical quantum phase transitions.

Quantum key distribution(QKD)enables the transmission of information that is secure against general attacks by *** use of on-demand quantum light sources in QKD protocols is expected to help improve security and maximum tolerable *** quantum dots(QDs)are a promising building block for quantum communication applications because of the deterministic emission of single photons with high brightness and low multiphoton *** we report on the first intercity QKD experiment using a bright deterministic single photon source.A BB84 protocol based on polarisation encoding is realised using the high-rate single photons in the telecommunication C-band emitted from a semiconductor QD embedded in a circular Bragg grating *** the 79 km long link with 25.49 dB loss(equivalent to 130 km for the direct-connected optical fibre)between the German cities of Hannover and Braunschweig,a record-high secret key bits per pulse of 4.8 ×10^(-5) with an average quantum bit error ratio of~0.65%are *** asymptotic maximum tolerable loss of 28.11 dB is found,corresponding to a length of 144 km of standard telecommunication *** semiconductor sources therefore challenge state-of-the-art QKD protocols and have the potential to excel in measurement device independent protocols and quantum repeater applications.

Despite one SINE retrotransposon insertion polymorphism(sRTIP)in the vertebrae development-associated(VRTN)gene was identified in pigs,the structural variations(SVs)in VRTN gene and its proximal flank regions were largely *** genic and flanking sequences from 14 breeds were assembled or downloaded from whole genome shotgun contings(WGS)database,and aligned to identify the SVs with Clustalx,and retrotransposons in VRTN gene were annotated by RepeatMasker,the splicing patterns of VRTN gene were predicted by Genescan,and large SVs were evaluated by PCR.A total of 12 small SVs and three large SVs in intron of VRTN,derived from SINE insertion *** identifed,and two of them(VRTN-sRTIP2 and VRTN-sRTIP3)were not reported *** VRTN-sRTIPs may affect the splicing patterns of *** displayed polymorphisms in most detected eight ***-sRTIP2 and VRTN-sRTIP3 showed Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium distributions in most populations except the Chinese local Erhualian pigs,while VRTN-sRTIP1 showed genetic equilbrium in Erhualian *** VRTN-sRTIPs were identified,and displayed polymorphisms in pigs,and two of them were not reported *** SVs provide a useful molecular markers for genetic analysis in pigs,and offer new information to facilitate the understanding the SVs of VRTN gene and their putative roles in the variation of vertebral number.

Phase relation and microstructure evolution in the pressure-less sintered tib_(2)‒TiC ceramics preceded with mechanical alloying were systematically studied by a combination of SEM *** debris from milling balls promotes sintering by dissolving into the TiC phase to achieve dense microstructures at 1600℃.Variation of W solution in TiC grains exposes two types of core-rim structures,with no or more W in dark and white cores respectively but with common medium W in both *** whitecores reveal an exchange reaction between WC and TiC via mechanical alloying to form the Ti_(1-z)W_(z)C phase prior to *** dark-cores inherit from the as-milled TiC power to further enable the reprecipitation of rims from a mixed liquid-phase,which facilitated also the anisotropic growth of tib_(2) *** dark-cores grow persistently in the second-step at 2000℃ enabled by this liquid-phase,which coarsens the tib2 grains *** more alloyed phase,sintering was insufficient at 1500℃ with only the surface fluidity from the primary powders,and the second-step sintering increased the fluidity in the liquid-phase to fully densify the binary ***-distribution of the alloyed W by two-step sintering rationalizes the evolution process of the binary microstructures and leads to better understanding of the mechanical behaviors.

The present work aims to demonstrate the capabilities of Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy(LIBS)coupled with a multivariate technique for rapid quantification and classification of old Indian coins made of various *** old Indian coins in different years of circulation,(1922–1986)were selected for the *** concentrations were determined by Calibration free LIBS(CF-LIBS)*** concentration of cuprum(Cu)is negligible,and aluminum(Al)is maximum in the first five coins,and vice-versa in the remaining eight *** different multivariate methods,Principal Component Analysis(PCA)and Soft Independent Modelling of Class Analogy(SIMCA)have been used to classify and identify the *** classified all thirteen samples into four main alloy *** discernment of unknown samples to their probable class membership of alloy was performed using *** surface hardness(Brinell hardness number)is linearly correlated with the plasma temperature and LIBS intensity *** sample surface of the first and fifth coin belongs to Al-alloy,having the least surface hardness,and it became harder for Cu–Ni alloy,Ni-brass alloy,and bronze *** hardness of the surface is more for bronze sample *** is also observed that the plasma temperature increases monotonically with the Brinell hardness *** analysis provides valuable information on fabrication methodology and explains large diversification in the elementary composition of old coins.
