Glucocorticoid receptor signaling in the brain and its involvement in cognitive function

Endoplasmic reticulum stress and autophagy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury:PERK as a potential target for intervention

Several studies have shown that activation of unfolded protein response and endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress plays a crucial role in severe cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** occurs within hours after cerebral ischemia,but the relationship between ER stress and autophagy remains *** this study,we established experimental models using oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation in PC12 cells and primary neurons to simulate cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** found that prolongation of oxygen-glucose deprivation activated the ER stress pathway protein kinase-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase(PERK)/eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit alpha(e IF2α)-activating transcription factor 4(ATF4)-C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP),increased neuronal apoptosis,and induced ***,inhibition of ER stress using inhibitors or by si RNA knockdown of the PERK gene significantly attenuated excessive autophagy and neuronal apoptosis,indicating an interaction between autophagy and ER stress and suggesting PERK as an essential target for regulating *** autophagy with chloroquine exacerbated ER stress-induced apoptosis,indicating that normal levels of autophagy play a protective role in neuronal injury following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** from this study indicate that cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury can trigger neuronal ER stress and promote autophagy,and suggest that PERK is a possible target for inhibiting excessive autophagy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Iterative parameter estimate with batched binary-valued observations

In this paper, we consider linear system identification with batched binary-valued *** constructed an iterative parameter estimate algorithm to achieve the maximum likelihood(ML) *** first interesting result was that there exists at most one finite ML solution for this specific maximum likelihood problem, which was induced by the fact that the Hessian matrix of the log-likelihood function was negative definite under binary data and Gaussian system noises. The global concave property and local strongly concave property of the log-likelihood function were obtained. Under mild conditions on the system input, we proved that the ML function has a unique maximum point. The second main result was that the ML estimate was consistent under persistent excitation inputs, which infers the effectiveness of ML estimate. Finally, the proposed iterative estimate algorithm converged to a fixed vector with an exponential rate that was proved by constructing a Lyapunov function. A more interesting result was that the limit of the iterative algorithm achieved the maximization of the ML function. Numerical simulations are illustrated to support the theoretical results obtained in this paper well.

control of random Boolean networks via average sensitivity of Boolean functions

In this paper, we discuss how to transform the disordered phase into an ordered phase in random Boolean networks. To increase the effectiveness, a control scheme is proposed, which periodically freezes a fraction of the network based on the average sensitivity of Boolean functions of the nodes. Theoretical analysis is carried out to estimate the expected critical value of the fraction, and shows that the critical value is reduced using this scheme compared to that of randomly freezing a fraction of the nodes. Finally, the simulation is given for illustrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Perfect adaptation describes the ability of a biological system to restore its biological function precisely to the pre-perturbation level after being affected by the environmental ***,a biological system with perfect adaptation can be modelled as an input-output nonlinear system whose output,usually determining the biological function,is asymptotically stable under all input disturbances *** this paper,a quite general input-output mathematical model is employed and the 'functional' of biological function(FBF)- output Lyapunov function- is explored to investigate its perfect adaptation *** condition is established for the systems with FBF to achieve perfect *** a sufficient and necessary condition is obtained for the linear systems to possess an output Lyapunov ***,it is shown that the 'functional'of receptors activity exists in the perfect adaptation model of *** *** with the existing mathematical surveys on perfect adaptation,most of which are based on the standpoint of control theory,we first investigate this problem using ways of nonlinear systems analysis.

Tuning of Sampled-Data ADRC for Nonlinear Uncertain systems

This paper concerns with the parameters tuning of active disturbance rejection control(ADRC) for a class of nonlinear systems with sampling rate not fast enough. The theoretical results show the quantitative relationship between the sampling rate, the parameters of ADRC, the size of uncertainties in system and the properties of the closed-loop system. Furthermore, the capability of the sampled-data ADRC under given sampling rate is quantitatively discussed.

The Separate Meter in Separate Meter Out control System Using Dual Servo Valves Based on Indirect Adaptive Robust Dynamic Surface control

Due to the demand for energy efficiency in electro-hydraulic systems, the separate meter in and separate meter out(SMISMO) control system attracts vast attention. In this paper, the SMISMO control system was configured with two servo valves to control the meter in and meter out *** designing two of the proposed indirect adaptive robust dynamic surface controllers(IARDSC)for the working-side and off-side system and setting the coupled items as estimated parameters, the SMISMO control system was decoupled into two subsystems completely. Here, indirect adaptive robust control(IARC) was employed to address the internal parameter uncertainties and external *** surface control(DSC) was utilized in the backstepping design procedure of IARC to deal with the inherent ‘explosion of terms' problem. As thus, the proposed IARDSC could simplify the design procedure, decrease the computational cost, and achieve an improved control performance in practical use. Finally, experimental results validated the effectiveness of proposed IARDSC and showed that the proposed SMISMO control system could provide a possibility to save more energy.

Vector Space Structure of Finite Evolutionary Games and Its Application to Strategy Profile Convergence

A vector space structure is proposed for the set of finite games with fixed nmnbers of players and strategies for each players. Two statical equivalences are used to reduce tile dimension of finite games. Under the vector space structure the subspaces of exact and weighted potential games are investigated. Formulas are provided to calculate them. Then the finite evolutionary games （EGs） are considered. Strategy profile dynamics is obtained using different strategy updating rules （SURs）. Certain SURs, which assure the convergence of trajectories to pure Nash equilibriums, are investigated. Using the vector space structure, the projection of finite games to the subspace of exact （or weighted） potential games is considered, and a simple formula is given to calculate the projection. The convergence of near potential games to an c-equilibrium is studied. Further more, the Lyapunov function of EGs is defined and its application to the convergence of EGs is presented. Finally, the near potential function for an EG is defined, and it is proved that if the near potential function of an EG is a Lyapunov function, the EG will converge to a pure Nash equilibrium. Some examples are presented to illustrate the results.

ON control OF STRONG CONSENSUS FOR NETWORKED AGENTS WITH NOISY OBSERVATIONS

The discrete-time first-order multi-agent networks with communication noises are under consideration. Based on the noisy observations, the consensus control is given for networks with both fixed and time-varying topologies. The states of agents in the resulting closed-loop network are updated by a stochastic approximation （SA） algorithm, and the consensus analysis for networks turns to be the convergence analysis for SA. For networks with fixed topologies, the proposed consensus control leads to consensus of agents with probability one if the graph associated with the network is connected. In the case of time-varying topologies, the similar results are derived if the graph is jointly connected in a fixed time period. Compared with existing results, the networks considered here are in a more general setting under weaker assumptions and the strong consensus is established by a simpler proof.
