Changes in Seasonal Cycle and Extremes in China during the Period 1960–2008

Recent trends in seasonal cycles in China are analyzed, based on a homogenized dataset of daily temperatures at 541 stations during the period 1960–2008. Several indices are defined for describing the key features of a seasonal cycle, including local winter/summer （LW/LS） periods and local spring/autumn phase （LSP/LAP）. The Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition method is applied to determine the indices for each year. The LW period was found to have shortened by 2–6 d （10 yr）-1, mainly due to an earlier end to winter conditions, with the LW mean temperature having increased by 0.2°C–0.4°C （10 yr）？1, over almost all of China. Records of the most severe climate extremes changed less than more typical winter conditions did. The LS period was found to have lengthened by 2–4 d （10 yr）？1, due to progressively earlier onsets and delayed end dates of the locally defined hot period. The LS mean temperature increased by 0.1°C–0.2°C （10 yr）-1 in most of China, except for a region in southern China centered on the mid-lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In contrast to the winter cases, the warming trend in summer was more prominent in the most extreme records than in those of more typical summer conditions. The LSP was found to have advanced significantly by about 2 d （10 yr）-1 in most of China. Changes in the autumn phase were less prominent. Relatively rapid changes happened in the 1980s for most of the regional mean indices dealing with winter and in the 1990s for those dealing with summer.

By noticing the fact that the charged leptons and quarks in the standard model are chirality-based Dirac spinors since their weak interaction violates maximally parity symmetry though they behave as Dirac fermions in electromagnetic interaction,we show that such a chirality-based Dirac spinor possesses not only electric charge gauge symmetry U(1)but also inhomogeneous spin gauge symmetry WS(1,3)=SP(1,3)?W1,3,which reveals the nature of gravity and *** gravitational force and spin gauge force are governed by the gauge symmetries W1,3and SP(1,3),respectively,and a biframe spacetime with globally fiat Minkowski spacetime as base spacetime and locally fiat gravigauge spacetime as a fiber is described by the gravigauge field through emergent non-commutative *** gauge-geometry duality and renormalizability in gravitational quantum field theory(GQFT)are carefully discussed.A detailed analysis and systematic investigation on gravidynamics and spinodynamics as well as electrodynamics are carried out within the framework of GQFT.A full discussion on the generalized Dirac equation and Maxwell equation as well as Einstein equation and spin gauge equation is made in biframe *** effects of gravidynamics as extension of general relativity are particularly *** dynamic equations of basic fields are demonstrated to preserve the spin gauge covariance and general coordinate covariance due to the spin gauge symmetry and emergent general linear group symmetry GL(1,3,R),so they hold naturally in any spinning reference frame and motional reference frame.

Traditional Use, Phytochemistry, Pharmacological and Toxicological Properties of Acanthus ilicifolius: A Review

The practice of plants for the deterrence and management of innumerable physiological states and diseases dates back to the history of humankind. Although many of today’s medicinal yields are achieved synthetically, they are often modelled on the chemical composition of medicinal plants. In this accordance, Acanthus genus (Family Acanthaceae) has acknowledged considerable attention due to its wide range of secondary metabolites and its customary usage in Indian and Chinese system of medicine. It is worth to mention that A. ilicifolius is enormously medicinal among all the species of Acanthus genus. This plant is considered to be rich sources of steroids, triterpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins. Traditionally, the plant has been used for asthma, diabetes, dyspepsia, hepatitis, leprosy, neuralgia, paralysis, ringworm, skin disease, snake bite, leukemia. Toxicological investigation in mice model has showed that, the ethanolic extract of the leaves of this plant have no toxic effect up to dose of 1000 mg/kg BW, 2000 mg/kg BW dose have mild toxicity and 5000 mg/kg BW dose have caused toxic effect in some organ system like liver, heart, pancreas, lung and kidney. Different extract of this plant also exhibited Anti-inflammatory, anti-leishmanial, osteoblastic, hepatoprotective, antioxidant and anticancer activities. This review article is an endeavor to cover current expansion in phytochemical and pharmacological potential of this plant species which will be a good reference tool for investigators who wish to work on natural products.

AN ADAPTIVE CONTROL STRATEGY FOR PROPER MESH DISTRI-BUTION IN LARGE EDDY SIMULATION

The Filtering Grid Scale （FGS） of sub-grid scale models does not match with the theoretical Proper FGS （PFGS） because of the improper mesh. Therefore, proper Large Eddy Simulation （LES） Mesh is very decisive for better results and more economical cost. In this work, the purpose is to provide an adaptive control strategy for proper LES mesh with turbulence theory and CFD methods. A new expression of PFGS is proposed on the basis of -5/3 law of inertial sub-range and the proper mesh of LES can be built directly from the adjustment of RANS mesh. A benchmark of the backward facing step flow at Re = 5147 is provided for application and verification. There are three kinds of mesh sizes, including the RANS mesh, LAM （LES of adaptive-control mesh）, LFM （LES of fine mesh）, employed here. The grid number of LAM is smaller than those of LFM evidently, and the results of LAM are in a good agreement with those of DNS and experiments. It is revealed that the results of LAM are very close to those of LFM. The conclusions provide positive evidences for the novel strategy.

An Unsupervised Writer Identification Based on Generating Clusterable Embeddings

The writer identification system identifies individuals based on their handwriting is a frequent topic in biometric authentication and verification *** to its importance,numerous studies have been conducted in various *** have established several learning methods for writer identification including supervised and unsupervised ***,supervised methods require a large amount of annotation data,which is impossible in most *** the other hand,unsupervised writer identification methods may be limited and dependent on feature extraction that cannot provide the proper objectives to the architecture and be *** paper introduces an unsupervised writer identification system that analyzes the data and recognizes the writer based on the inter-feature relations of the data to resolve the uncertainty of the features.A pairwise architecturebased Autoembedder was applied to generate clusterable embeddings for handwritten text ***,the trained baseline architecture generates the embedding of the data image,and the K-means algorithm is used to distinguish the embedding of individual *** proposed model utilized the IAM dataset for the experiment as it is inconsistent with contributions from the authors but is easily accessible for writer identification *** addition,traditional evaluation metrics are used in the proposed ***,the proposed model is compared with a few unsupervised models,and it outperformed the state-of-the-art deep convolutional architectures in recognizing writers based on unlabeled data.

Projection of the Zhujiang(Pearl) River Delta's potential submerged area due to sea level rise during the 21st century based on CMIP5 simulations

Projections of potential submerged area due to sea level rise are helpful for improving understanding of the influence of ongoing global warming on coastal areas. The Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition method is used to adaptively decompose the sea level time series in order to extract the secular trend component. Then the linear relationship between the global mean sea level （GMSL） change and the Zhujiang （Pearl） River Delta （PRD） sea level change is calculated： an increase of 1.0 m in the GMSL corresponds to a 1.3 m （uncertainty interval from 1.25 to 1.46 m） increase in the PRD. Based on this relationship and the GMSL rise projected by the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 under three greenhouse gas emission scenarios （representative concentration pathways, or RCPs, from low to high emission scenarios RCP2.6, RCP4.5, and RCP8.5）, the PRD sea level is calculated and projected for the period 2006-2100. By around the year 2050, the PRD sea level will rise 0.29 （0.21 to 0.40） m under RCP2.6, 0.31 （0.22 to 0.42） m under RCP4.5, and 0.34 （0.25 to 0.46） m under RCP8.5, respectively. By 2100, it will rise 0.59 （0.36 to 0.88） m, 0.71 （0.47 to 1.02） m, and 1.0 （0.68 to 1.41） m, respectively. In addition, considering the extreme value of relative sea level due to land subsidence （i.e., 0.20 m） and that obtained from intermonthly variability （i.e., 0.33 m）, the PRD sea level will rise 1.94 m by the year 2100 under the RCP8.5 scenario with the upper uncertainty level （i.e., 1.41 m）. Accordingly, the potential submerged area is 8.57x103 km2 for the PRD, about 1.3 times its present area.

Ocean-atmosphere Teleconnections Play a Key Role in the Interannual Variability of Seasonal Gross Primary Production in China

Since the 1950s,the terrestrial carbon uptake has been characterized by interannual variations,which are mainly determined by interannual variations in gross primary production(GPP).Using an ensemble of seven-member TRENDY(Trends in Net Land-Atmosphere Carbon Exchanges)simulations during 1951-2010,the relationships of the interannual variability of seasonal GPP in China with the sea surface temperature(SST)and atmospheric circulations were *** GPP signals that mostly relate to the climate forcing in terms of Residual Principal Component analysis(hereafter,R-PC)were identified by separating out the significant impact from the linear trend and the GPP *** showed that the seasonal GPP over China associated with the first R-PC1(the second R-PC2)during spring to autumn show a monopole(dipole or tripole)spatial structure,with a clear seasonal evolution for their maximum centers from springtime to *** dominant two GPP R-PC are significantly related to Sea Surface Temperature(SST)variability in the eastern tropical pacific Ocean and the north pacific Ocean during spring to autumn,implying influences from the El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and the pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO).The identified SST and circulation factors explain 13%,23%and 19%of the total variance for seasonal GPP in spring,summer and autumn,respectively.A clearer understanding of the relationships of China’s GPP with ocean-atmosphere teleconnections over the pacific and Atlantic Ocean should provide scientific support for achieving carbon neutrality targets.

An Extreme Drought over South China in 2020/21 Concurrent with an Unprecedented Warm northwest pacific and La Niña

An extreme drought appeared in South China from October 2020 to March *** that time,sea surface temperatures exhibited an unprecedented warm center over the northwest pacific(NWP)and a cold center over the tropical eastern pacific(La Niña).This study demonstrates the combined effects of an exceptionally warm NWP and a moderate La Niña are closely linked to the anomalous drought in South *** sea surface temperature anomaly in these two regions induced a steeper horizontal geopotential height gradient over South *** a result,anomalous northeasterly winds prevailed over South China,altering water vapor transport and moisture convergence.A simplified atmospheric general circulation model also verifies the influence of the NWP warm anomaly on South China *** study points out that the sea surface temperature variation in the NWP was important to the occurrence of extreme drought in South China from October 2020 to March 2021.
