Dietary analysis of the House swift(Apus nipalensis)in Hong Kong using prey DNA in faecal samples

Background:To understand the dietary composition of the highly aerial swift(Apodidae),ecologists conventionally depend on the morphological identification of prey items from food boluses or stomach contents,but these techniques are often invasive,require expertise in identification,and often cannot produce accurate identifications at the species ***:DNA barcoding was used to analyse the dietary composition of House swifts(Apus nipalensis)in Hong Kong,*** samples from five different colonial nest sites were collected between 2019 and *** used universal primers to amplify a region of the cytochrome C oxidase gene from prey DNA in the faecal samples for identification ***:Ten different orders and 44 families from three different classes of Arthropoda were identified in the collected faecal ***,Hemiptera and Diptera were the most prevalent groups of prey found in the *** in the dietary composition of House swifts during the breeding(April to September)and nonbreeding(October to March)season were also ***,particularly ants(Formicidae),were predominant in the diet during the breeding season,whereas Diptera and Hemiptera were predominant during the non-breeding ***:The prey groups identified in this study were similar to those identified in a previous study of the diet of House swift,which also suggests a possible role of House swifts in reducing the numbers of local insect *** study demonstrates the usefulness of applying molecular tools for the dietary analysis of aerial *** local forested areas may be crucial for the maintenance of House swift population.

Cluster Analysis of the Roma-BZCAT Blazars

Based on the collected multiwavelength data, namely in the radio(NVSS, FIRST, RATAN-600), IR(WISE),optical(Pan-STARRS), UV(GALEX), and X-ray(ROSAT, swift-XRT) ranges, we have performed a cluster analysis for the blazars of the Roma-BZCAT catalog. Using two machine learning methods, namely a combination of PCA with k-means clustering and Kohonen's self-organizing maps(SOMs), we have constructed an independent classification of the blazars(five classes) and compared the classes with the known Roma-BZCAT classification(FSRQs, BL Lacs, galaxy-dominated BL Lacs, and blazars of an uncertain type) as well as with the high synchrotron peaked(HSP) blazars from the 3HSP catalog and blazars from the TeVCat catalog. The obtained groups demonstrate concordance with the BL Lac/FSRQ classification along with a continuous character of the change in the properties. The group of HSP blazars stands out against the overall distribution. We examine the characteristics of the five groups and demonstrate distinctions in their spectral energy distribution shapes. The effectiveness of the clustering technique for objective analysis of multiparametric arrays of experimental data is demonstrated.

COCKPIT-PLUS:A proposed method for rapid groundwater vulnerability-driven land use zoning in tropical cockpit karst areas

Karst groundwater is highly vulnerable to contamination,which urges better land use *** paper proposes a new approach,called COCKPIT-PLUS,to minimize groundwater contamination within cockpit karst *** method employed four parameters:P(the existence of ponor/swallow hole),L(lineament density),U(sinking stream to an underground river),and S(distance to spring/pumping site).These parameters are essential for identifying contaminant pathways and transport from the surface to the karst groundwater/***-PLUS has been developed and validated in the Gunungsewu karst in Java,*** research considers a cockpit as a single hydrological unit that uniquely recharges karst *** analyzed 2,811 cockpits and 81 other closed depressions to develop a land use planning *** research used the time to first arrival(Ta),time to peak(Tp),and Q_(max/min)ratio parameters of two karst springs and two underground pumping sites for *** with ponors/swallow holes,sinking streams,high lineament density,and short distances to springs are vulnerable to groundwater and thus must be restricted areas for any land *** findings show that though the COCKPIT-PLUS uses a limited karst dataset,the proposed method seems reliable enough for a rapid land-use zoning approach in cockpit karst areas.

Results show that TC-chain node Banyan network offer an improved throughput-delay ratio performance under both traffic models.

In recent years, trap-related interfacial transport phenomena have received great attention owing to their potential applications in resistive switching devices and photo detectors. Not long ago, one new type of memristive interface that is composed of F-doped SnO2 and Bi2S3 nano-network layers has demonstrated a bivariate-continuous-tunable resistance with a swift response comparable to the one in neuron synapses and with a brain-like memorizing capability. However, the resistive mechanism is still not clearly understood because of lack of evidence, and the limited improvement in the development of the interfacial device. By combining I-V characterization, electron energy-loss spectroscopy, and first- principle calculation, we studied in detail the macro/micro features of the memristive interface using experimental and theoretical methods, and confirmed that its atomic origin is attributed to the traps induced by O-doping. This implies that impurity-doping might be an effective strategy for improving switching features and building new interfacial memristors.

Therapeutic effects of combined oxaliplatin and S-1 in older patients with advanced gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma

AIM:To evaluate the effects and safety of combination chemotherapy with oxaliplatin (L-OHP) and S-1 (SOX regimen) in older patients with advanced gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma (GCA). METHODS: Seventy patients with advanced GCA were classified according to age into an older group (≥ 75 years) and a control group (groups as follows: S-1 (40 mg/m2 po bid) on days 1 to 14 followed by a 7-d off period, plus L-OHP (65 mg/m2 iv) for 2 h on days 1 and 8 of a 21-d cycle. This regimen was repeat-ed for four to six cycles. Response and swallow statuses were evaluated after two cycles (6 wk). Effects and toxicity were evaluated four weeks after chemotherapy was completed. RESULTS: The response rate was 65.6% (21/32) in the older group and 68.4% (26/38) in the control group (χ2 = 0.062 and P = 0.804). Improvement in swallowing was 78.1% (25/32) in the older group and 76.3% (29/38) in the control group (χ2 = 0.032 and P = 0.857). Effi cacy was 68.8% (22/32) in the older group and 65.8% (25/38) in the control group (χ2 = 0.069 and P = 0.793). Toxicities were reversible and similar in both groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The SOX regimen is an effective, safe and well-tolerated regimen for older patients with advanced GCA.
