The metallurgical industry generates every year huge amounts of slag. The annual amount of generated steelmaking slags alone is more than 100 million tons. The steel slag is normally used as construction materials, for instance, for road and river bank construction. Fully utilization of this huge amount of byproduct is limited by its leaching and volume stability properties. In addition to the useful minerals in the slag, there is also a considerable amount of feasible heat lost in the hot slag. swerea mefos have been involved in a number of hot slag processing projects in the past 20 years. These projects included slag stabilization to improve the physical and leaching properties, slag reduction for metal recovery, dry slag granulation for heat recovery and for reduced leaching of heavy metals, etc. This paper will highlight some of the projects with focus on the wellknown IPBM and VILD projects. The extensive pilot experiences of swerea mefos have shown that there is a wide range of options for economic and ecological recovery of metals, minerals and energy from hot metallurgical slag.

Olivine, as one MgO containing material, can be used as one type of fluxing additives for sinter, pellet and blast furnace. In this work, the benefits of using olivine flux for agglomerate- and iron-making processes were analyzed. The results show that olivine mainly contributes on(1) an increased productivity at the sinter bed;(2) a stable and better blast furnace operation by improving the permeability inside the blast furnace and an effective sulfur and alkalis removal;and(3) lower energy consumption. In addition, a theoretical low CO emission can be achieved for olivine compared to other fluxes of dolomite and serpentine. Perspectives and challenges of using olivine were further addressed.

本文旨在进一步开发和验证脉冲分布分析发射光谱法快速用于钢铁生产中夹杂物的表征。本实验主要对一些操作参数如:火花能量,火花频率和门控时间(TRS)进行研究。结果显示低火花能量有利于检出限的提高,但是由于样品量较小不利于测量统计。研究证明测量频率对分析结果没有显著影响,但是一些现有仪器由于电子器件限制不能处理脉冲分布分析模式中最高频率300Hz以上的火花。门控时间对于金属含量以上硅离群值的检出限有微幅改善。本研究还发现因为强度的不对称分布使得测定"假"离群值有风险,这就导致了检测离群值更先进算法的发展,提高了方法的准确性。另一个限制是颗粒物数量密度不可超过约10 000夹杂物/mm3,以便能够有效的检测单个夹杂物。本文提出了可以克服这一限制的方法,但该方法还没有被评估。通过参考方法验证了夹杂物中铝含量定量测定的准确性,结果证明现代化脉冲分布分析是快速表征钢中夹杂物的强大工具。本法分析速度对过程反馈足够快,且可以控制。

An advanced numerical model, developed by swerea mefos ab, has been used to diagnose and optimize steel casting practices for peritectic steels for a Scandinavian steel producer. The model is based on the commercial code ANSYS-FLUENT 15.0 which solves the Navier-Stokes equations by using an interface tracking technique known as Volume of Fluid（VOF） for the multiple phase system steel/slag. As a result, the model predicts metal flow and slag infiltration as well as their influence on heat flux and solidification under transient conditions. Recent improvements to the model include separation between mould powder and slag film and considering the effect of crystallization on interfacial resistance for a Peritectic mould powder through a User Defined Function（UDF）. The casting parameters analysed consist ofcasting speed interlocked with oscillation settings, Submerged Entry Nozzle（SEN） immersion depth and Argon injection flow rate. These practises were optimised by performing parametric studies to evaluate shell growth, lubrication depth, cooling channel heat flux, etc. Application of the model allows the prediction of trends and opportunities for further improvement in the form of guidelines for the process and enhanced operational windows. These have been tested at industrial level showing improvements on surface quality and process stability.

The main driver for recycling cable wastes is the high value of the conducting metal, while the plastic with its lower value is often neglected. New improved cable plastic recycling routes can provide both economic and environmental incentive to cable producers for moving up the “cable plastic waste ladder”. Cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment, LCA, of the waste management of the cable scrap is suggested and explained as a method to analyze the pros and cons of different cable scrap recycling options at hand. Economic and environmental data about different recycling processes and other relevant processes and materials are given. Cable producers can use this data and method to assess the way they deal with the cable plastic waste today and compare it with available alternatives and thus illuminate the improvement potential of recycling cable plastic waste both in an environmental and in an economic sense. The methodology applied consists of: cradle-to-gate LCA for waste material to a recycled material (recyclate);quantifying the climate impact for each step on the waste ladder for the specific waste material;the use of economic and climate impact data in parallel;climate impact presented as a span to portray the insecurities related to which material the waste will replace;and possibilities for do-it-yourself calculations. Potentially, the methodology can be useful also for other waste materials in the future.

This study is aiming at controlling the microstructure of plasma sprayed Al2O3-TiO2 composite coatings using freeze granulated powders. As sprayed and sintered Al2O3 + 3wt%TiO2 powders were air plasma sprayed with industry process parameters and compared with a commercial powder. The resulting coatings were investigated with respect to powder flowability, porosity and microstructure of the granules. The results showed that microstructure and melting fraction in the coatings could be tailored with the freeze granulation process and heat treatment conditions.

本研究旨在开发一种用于预测锌基涂层耐腐蚀性的通用方法,其可以表示为加速盐雾试验中的总质量损失。本方法仅基于三个分析参数,即锌、铝和镁的总涂层质量。这种限制的原因是这三种参数可能通过在线分析获得。然后,预测的耐腐蚀性被包括在一个过程/质量控制系统。加速腐蚀试验在布雷斯特的swerea KIMab IC(腐蚀研究所)以及比利时的冶金研究中心(CRM)进行。试验按照雷诺ECC1试验D172028/--C(12周)以及CRM研发的加速循环腐蚀试验进行。根据总质量损失情况,原材料被分为四个耐腐蚀级别。所有腐蚀试验都清晰、充分地说明了元素镁和铝的正面影响。对于涂层中大多数这些元素来说,元素镁和铝的影响比单独元素锌的影响大很多。因此,引入了一个新的量,叫做"等量元素锌涂层重量"。此量与锌、铝和镁的涂层重量线性相关。使用专家系统开发了一种用于预测耐腐蚀性的模型,此模型基于回归分析和"决策树"算法。根据上述提及的三个分析参数(即锌、铝和镁的总涂层质量),可以使用开发的模型准确对27种材料中的25种进行分类。总之,即使是在线状态,这种方法也有可能准确预测出腐蚀行为。出于材料研发的目的,还扩展了专家系统使其包括其他分析参数。
