Background:Oral cancer is a common type of head and neck cancers.Knowing its epidemiologic characteristics is crucial to preventing,diagnosing,and treating this cancer.This study aimed to explore the epidemiologic characteristics of oral cancer in South China.Methods:We retrospectively analyzed data from 4097 oral cancer patients treated at the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center between 1960 and 2013.We compared the age of onset,sex ratio,pathologic type,and primary tumor location among three subcultural areas(Guangfu,Hakka,and Chaoshan) and between an economically developed region and a less-developed one in Guangdong.Results:Overall,oral cancer had a male-to-female ratio of approximately 2:1,and this ratio decreased over time.Oral cancer occurred mostly in patients of 45-64 years old(54.5%),and the percentage of older patients gradually increased over time.The most common tumor location was the tongue.Squamous cell carcinoma was the predominant pathologic type.The percentage of blood type O in oral cancer patients was lower than that in the healthy population.The male-to-female ratio in the Chaoshan area was higher than that in the Guangfu and Hakka areas,whereas the age of disease onset in Guangfu was higher than that in Hakka and Chaoshan.The male-to-female ratio was lower and the age of disease onset was higher in the economically developed region than in the less-developed region.Conclusion:The incidence of oral cancer in South China presents typical characteristics to which doctors should pay attention when diagnosing and treating oral cancer patients.

Based on the blueprint of the training center for clinical skills of our hospital,this paper discusses the effect of‘the market for lemons’in its booking system from the perspective of economics of information,uses the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem to model to carry out the case study of FAHSYSU Simulation T,and takes measures of offsetting adverse selections to increase booking efficiency.The paper also analyzes how to apply the ancient Chinese theory that man is an integral part of nature to wipe out‘the market for lemons’.

AIM:To explore the relationship between ocular and systemic conditions and the impact of ocular complications on the quality of life(QOL)in patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(ALLO-HSCT).METHODS:Forty-four patients with severe hematopoietic disease were enrolled after ALLO-HSCT at our center from July 2018 to October 2020.They completed two questionnaires:the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)and the quality-of-life scale for Chinese patients with visual impairment(SQOL-DV1).Ocular conditions and systemic conditions were also assessed.RESULTS:Eye damage was correlated with total bilirubin(P=0.005),and gamma-glutamyl transferase(GGT)(P=0.021).There was no significant correlation between the overall QOL score and OSDI(P=0.8226)or SQOLDV1(P=0.9526)scores.The OSDI and the overall QOL score were not correlated with ocular conditions,including best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure,Schirmer tear test II,sodium fluorescein staining,tear film breakup time,and tear meniscus height.SQOLDV1 was correlated with BCVA(P=0.0007),sodium fluorescein staining(P=0.007),and tear film breakup time(P=0.0146).CONCLUSION:In some patients,early ocular symptoms are not evident after ALLO-HSCT,while ocular surface complications can be observed after a comprehensive ophthalmological examination.Especially for those with elevated total bilirubin or GGT,regular ophthalmic follow-up visits are essential to diagnose and treat ocular graft versus host disease(o GVHD),especially for patients with elevated total bilirubin or GGT.

Objective:Investigation of the regulatory mechanisms of cell stemness in cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is essential for developing effective therapies to improve patient outcomes.The purpose of this study was to investigate the function and regulatory mechanism of m6A modifications in CCA cell stemness.Methods:Interleukin 6(IL-6)treatment was used to induce an inflammatory response,and loss-of-function studies were conducted using mammosphere culture assays.Chromatin immunoprecipitation,polysome profiling,and methylated RNA immunoprecipitation analyses were used to identify signaling pathways.The in vitro findings were verified in a mice model.Results:We first identified that m6A writers were highly expressed in CCAs and further showed that STAT3 directly bound to the gene loci of m6A writers,showing that IL-6/STAT3 signaling regulated expressions of m6A writers.Downregulating m6A writers prevented cell proliferation and migration in vitro and suppressed CCA tumorigenesis in vivo.Notably,the knockdown of m6A writers inhibited CCA cell stemness that was triggered by IL-6 treatment.Mechanistically,IGF2BP2 was bound to CTNNB1 transcripts,significantly enhancing their stability and translation,and conferring stem-like properties.Finally,we confirmed that the combination of m6A writers,IGF2BP2,and CTNNB1 distinguished CCA tissues from normal tissues.Conclusions:Overall,this study showed that the IL-6-triggered inflammatory response facilitated the expressions of m6A writers and cell stemness in an m6A-IGF2BP2-dependent manner.Furthermore,the study showed that m6A modification was a targetable mediator of the response to inflammation factor exposure,was a potential diagnostic biomarker for CCA,and was critical to the progression of CCA.

Circular RNAs(circRNAs)are generated by the non-canonical back-splicing of pre-mRNA and have been shown to be present in a wide variety of tissues at lower expression levels than their associated linear RNAs1.The advent of high-throughput sequencing technologies has enabled the identification of circRNAs with biological functions in diseases,particularly cancers.Because their stable circular structures resist digestion by RNase R,circRNAs accumulate in the brain with aging in a conservative form wherein neurons seldom undergo mitosis;some of these RNAs have been reported to serve as prognostic biomarkers for central nervous system(CNS)disease2.
