R & D OF HYDROGEN ABSORBING ALLOYS IN JAPAN

The R & D of hydrogen absorbing alloys in Japan started in the early *** alloys such as TiMm1.5 based alloys, Fe-Ti-O alloys (e.g. FeTi1.15 O0.024) andthe(mischmetal)Ni5 based alloys (e.g. MmNi4.5 Cr0.46 Mn0.04) were developed by the early 1980s. The application of these alloys to hydrogen storage, heat storage, heat pump, hydrogen purification and motor vehicles has been tried in many iaboratories,and the various techniques for using hydrogen absorbing alloys have been *** standarkization of evaluation methods for hydrogen absorbing alloys has been promoted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), and four of them were established as Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS).Alloys for Ni-metal Hydride batteries have been extensively investigated since 1987in Japun. Mm-Ni-Co-Al-Mn alloys (e.g. MmNi3.55 Co0.75Al0.9Mn0.4) have been devel-oped and commereialized since 1990. The amount of production of small-size Ni-MH batteries in 1995 was about three hundred milliion in number and about one hundred billion yen. The R & D for higher enerpy-density Ni-MH batteries is intensively in *** and STA (Science and Technology Agency) have promoted the R & D of hydro-gen absorbing alloys in Japan by carrying out the national projects such as Sunshine Program (MITI: 1974-1993) and Utilization of Wind Engeray (STA 1980-1985). The New Sunshine Program (MITI 1993-2020) have started in 1993. This program con-tains the application of hydrogen absorbing alloys to Economical- Enerpy- City System and to We-NET (International Clean Energy System of Technology Utilizing Hydro-gen: World Energy Network.

MULTIAXIAL CREEP-FATIGUE LIFE EVALUATION UNDER PROPORTIONAL LOADING

A new method was proposed for the multiaxial creep-fatigue life evaluation under proportional loadings. Because this method was derived from the strain range partitioning method with a multiaxiality factor, it was possible to consider the influence of both creep-fatigue interaction and multiaxial stress state on fatigue life. In order to predict the combined axial-torsional fatigue life the damage under combined loading was defined as linear summation of the damages under axial loading and torsional loading. Axial-torsional creep-fatigue tests were carried out using tubular specimens of 316LC austenitic stainless steel and the ferritic rotor steel. This rotor steel was developed for the permanent magnet type eddy current retarder in heavy trucks. Experimentally obtained lives of both steels were well corresponded with the lives predicted by the proposed method. It was found that the proposed method was effective in multiaxial fatigue life evaluation under proportional creep-fatigue loadings.

Behavior of Transversal Crack on Slab Corner During V-H Rolling Process

The behavior of transversal cracks on the surface of the slab corner during vertical and horizontal （V-H） rolling process with flat vertical roll and groove vertical roll was simulated by explicit dynamic finite element method. The closure and growth of crack and the contact pressure on surfaces of the crack in contacting zone between slab and roll during rolling process were analyzed. The results showed that during vertical rolling process, when the groove vertical roll is used, the maximum contact pressure on surfaces of the crack is 115 MPa, and the closure of crack is stable when the flat vertical roll is used, the maximum contact pressure on surfaces of the crack is 70 MPa, and it fluctuates greatly. During horizontal rolling process, when groove vertical roll is used, the contact pressure becomes zero which may accelerate the growth of crack when flat vertical roll is used, there is still contact pressure. The cal culated results are in good agreement with the results of test.

The depression mechanism of sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite in the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite still lacked in-depth ***,the depression mechanism of sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite in the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite was further systematically investigated with experiments and density functional theory(DFT)*** X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy(XPS)results,DFT calculation results,and frontier molecular orbital analysis indicated that sulfite ions were difficult to be adsorbed on sphalerite surface,suggesting that sulfite ions achieved depression effects on sphalerite through other non-adsorption ***,the oxygen content in the surface of sphalerite treated with sulfite ions in creased,which enhanced the hydrophilicity of the sphalerite and further increased the difference in hydrophilicity between sphalerite and ***,sulfite ions were chelated with lead ions to form PbSO_(3)in *** hydrophilic PbSO_(3)was more easily adsorbed on sphalerite than *** interaction between sulfite ions and lead ions could effectively inhibit the activation of *** addition the UV spectrum showed that after adding sulfite ions,the peak of perxanthate in the sphalerite treated xanthate solution was significantly stronger than that in the galena with xanthate solution,indicating that xanthate interacted more readily with sulfite ions and oxygen mo lecules within the sphalerite system,leading to the formation of ***,sulfite ions hardly depressed the flotation of ga lena and could promote the flotation of galena to some *** study deepened the understanding of the depression mechanism o sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite.

利用高温冶金炼铁、炼钢技术,开发了一种新型的垃圾气化与熔融系统.住友金属开发的这种体系具有下列基本概念:用顶吹和侧吹氧枪实现稳态生产,产生无二恶英的高热值净化气和高质量的炉渣.系统的基本概念用一台规模为2 t/d的城市垃圾处理小型炉得到澄清.利用顶吹氧枪,由于在炉子上部产生均匀气流,从而可稳定炉子顶气的成分.顶吹氧枪的使用可防止粗粉尘(尺寸＞0.1 mm)的飞散,使熔化的粉尘均匀沉积在炉子内壁上.内壁上形成的粉尘沉积层不但可防止粉尘飞散,而且能保护炉子内壁.在2t/d规模小型炉试验结果的基础上,进一步启动了一台20 t/d规模的示范炉.示范炉和小型炉一样不用焦炭,能稳定地气化和熔化城市垃圾.由于在高温还原气氛下气化和快速冷却,结果可产生无二恶英的高热值净化气.垃圾中的灰分在高温还原气氛下熔融,得到不含重金属的高质量炉渣.

Explicit Dynamic FEM Analysis of Multipass Vertical-Horizontal Rolling

Three passes of plate rolling during vertical-horizontal rolling process are simulated with explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method. The equivalent strain and stress fields, and shape change at the head and tail of slab during rolling are obtained. The calculated result of the shape at the head and tail of slab is in good agreement with the measured one. The explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method can be used effectively to analyze the multipass vertical-horizontal （V-H） rolling process.

Suppression of Effect of Uneven Velocity in Submerged Entry Nozzle in Round Billet Continuous Casting Process Using Electromagnetic Swirling Flow

Sliding gate control system is widely employed in continuous casting process of steel to control flow rate of molten *** molten steel passes through a sliding gate,uneven flow *** will cause asymmetrical distribution of flow and temperature field in mold consequently,formation of vortex near the nozzle and entrapment of CC powder into the molten ***,which have negative effect on process productivity and product *** suppress the uneven flow,electromagnetic swirling flow has been proposed to impose on the flow in submerged entry nozzle below the sliding *** this study the uneven flow developed by incompletely open sliding gate and the suppression of this uneven flow using electromagnetic swirling flow are numerically studied in round billet continuous casting of steel *** improvement of the flow and temperature filed in the submerged entry nozzle and mold are *** is found that:The uneven velocity in nozzle can be suppressed by electromagnetic swirling flow,and the flow and temperature field in mold be improved obviously;With the increase of electromagnetic swirling intensity,the effect of uneven flow can be almost completely suppressed.

Fundamental Study on Continuous Casting Process With Swirling Flow by Electromagnetic Force

Swirling flow in a submerged entry nozzle is effective on improving quality of casting block and casting speed in continuous casting of steel.A new method for swirling flow generation in the nozzle has been proposed by the authors,that is a rotating electromagnetic field is set up around a submerged entry nozzle(SEN)to induce swirling flow in it by Lorentz *** this study,the magnetic field in molten steel in the submerged entry nozzle,the flow and temperature field in the SEN and mold in round,square billet and slab continuous casting process of steel are numerically *** model experiment of electromagnetic swirling continuous casting is also conducted with low melting point *** commercial test for slab is *** by numerical simulation and experiment show that the swirling flow by the optimum designed electromagnetic swirling generator can not only improve the distribution of flow and temperature in mold but also achieve the same effects generated by the swirling blade process. And,more effects on continuous casting process can be expected after this electromagnetic swirling process is optimized.

Thermal fatigue behavior of K125L superalloy

The thermal fatigue behavior of K125 L superalloy at the peak temperature of 1,050 °C was investigated by optical microscope（OM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD）, and scanning electron microscope（SEM）. The experimental results show that the crack initiation sites of tested alloys are at the V-notch tip and the V-notch tip propagates by way of continuous cracking along grain boundaries. The formation of high-temperature oxides and MC carbides accelerates the crack propagation, and no secondary carbides precipitate out. Oxides between cracks are mainly the Al2O3 as well as Cr_2O_3, and carbides are Ta-rich and Tirich MC carbides.
