Problematic of Drinking Water Access in Rural Area: Case Study of the Sourou Valley in Burkina Faso

Safe drinking water access for rural populations in developing countries remains a challenge for a sustainable development. The study aims to investigate the drinking water quality and the factors affecting this quality in the Sourou valley in Burkina Faso. A total of 135 water samples were collected in sterile glass bottles during the dry seasons 2007, 2008, and 2012 from 10 drillings and 5 wells. Fifteen physicochemical parameters and two fecal pollution indicators (Escherichia coli and fecal Coliforms) were monitored based on laboratory standard methods. Datas were analyzed, using the student t’ test and XLSTAT 7.5.2 statistical software. From results obtained, water quality was related to water source and sampling period as well (p 0.0001). 30% of drillings provided water with nitrates concentration over the World Health Organization (WHO) guideline value. High turbidity was also observed for some drillings. Moreover, 90% of drillings showed water total hardness largely over the WHO threshold value. Water from drillings were exempt of fecal pollution, contrasting with the wells one which appeared uniformly polluted with concentrations exceeding sometimes 103 and 104 CFU/100 ml for E. coli and fecal Coliforms, respectively. Field investigations showed a preference of wells as drinking water source, and that appeared related to the lack of self-management of drillings and to cultural considerations. Overall, this study highlighted that a regular survey of water quality, management of protection zones around drinking water sources, sensitization on water resources self-management, hygiene and health issues, and providing appropriate household disinfection methods could help advancing to reach an effective safe drinking water access for rural populations in the country.

Protein ubiquitination regulates diverse cellular processes in eukaryotic organisms,from growth and development to stress *** subjected to ubiquitination can be found in virtually all subcellular locations and organelles,including peroxisomes,singlemembrane and highly dynamic organelles ubiquitous in *** contain metabolic functions essential to plants and animals such as lipid catabolism,detoxification of reactive oxygen species(ROS),biosynthesis of vital hormones and cofactors,and *** peroxisomes possess a complex proteome with functions varying among different tissue types and developmental stages,and during plant response to distinct environmental ***,how these diverse functions are regulated at the post-translational level is poorly understood,especially in *** this review,we summarized current knowledge of the involvement of protein ubiquitination in peroxisome protein import,remodeling,pexophagy,and metabolism,focusing on plants,and referencing discoveries from other eukaryotic systems when *** on previous ubiquitinomics studies,we compiled a list of 56 ubiquitinated Arabidopsis peroxisomal proteins whose functions are associated with all the major plant peroxisomal metabolic *** discovery suggests a broad impact of protein ubiquitination on plant peroxisome functions,therefore substantiating the need to investigate this significant regulatory mechanism in peroxisomes at more depths.

The crystal structure, phase transition, and magnetocaloric effect in Ni42.8Mn40.3Co5.7Sn11.2 alloy are investigated by structure analysis and magnetic measurements. A large magnetic entropy change of 45.6 J/kg.K is obtained at 215 K under a magnetic field of 30 kOe （1 Oe = 79.5775 A.m-1）. The effective refrigerant capacity of Ni42.8Mn40.3Co5.7Sn11.2 alloy reaches 72.1 J/kg under an applied field changing from 0 to 30 kOe. The external magnetic field shifts the martensitic transition temperature about 3-4 K/10 kOe towards low temperature, indicating that magnetic field can retard the phase transition to a certain extent. The origin of large magnetic entropy change is discussed in the paper.

In situ carbon-coated Co_(3)Se_(4)/CoSe_(2)(Co_(x)Se_(y))nanoparticles(NPs)attached on three-dimensional(3D)reduced graphene oxide(rGO)sheets were skillfully developed in this work,which involved the environment-friendly hydrothermal method,freeze drying,and selenide *** the structure,the glucose-derived carbon layer exhibited significantly homogeneous dispersion under an argon *** structure not only has enhanced stability,but also can effectively mitigate the volume swell of Co_(x)Se_(y) *** resulted Co_(3)Sea/CoSe_(2)@C/rGO(CSe@C/rGO)exhibited a specific surface area(SSA)of 240.9 m^(2)·g^(-1),offering more electrochemically active sites for the storage of energy related to lithium *** rGO matrix held exceptional flexibility and functional structural rigidity,facilitating the swift ion intercalation and ensuring the high conductivity and recyclability of the *** applied to anodes designed for lithium-ion batteries(LiBs),this material demonstrated distinguished rate and ultra-high reversible capacity(872.98 mA·h·g^(-1) at 0.5 A·g^(-1)).Meanwhile,its capacity retention reached 119.5%after 500 cycles at 2 A·g^(-1),with a coulombic efficiency of 100%.This work potentially paves the way for generating fast and powerful metal selenide anodes and initiating LiBs with good performance.

We used an impregnation method to prepare CuO/AC(activated carbon) composite materials of different CuO content and characterized them via scanning electron microscope(SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The effect of CuO content on toluene adsorption/desorption was *** explored the reusability of AC and AC03(CuO modified AC with CuO loading 0.3 wt.%) adsorbents via toluene adsorption/desorption cycle *** used quasi-firstand quasi-second-order models, the Bangham model, and the Weber–Morris model to fit the toluene adsorption *** introduction of CuO species evidently improved the adsorption performance of activated carbon toward *** CuO content markedly affected the specific surface area, CuO dispersal, the numbers of oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface, and adsorption performance of the prepared composite *** CuO content was not favorable for the formation of active adsorption sites,while high content greatly reduced the specific surface area, and even covered active adsorption *** toluene adsorption performance varied in the order AC03 > AC02 >AC05 > AC08 > AC01(AC03, AC02, AC05, AC08 and AC01 are CuO modifying AC with CuO loading 0.3, 0.2, 0.5 0.8 and 0.1 wt.%, respectively).The breakthrough time and toluene adsorption capacity of the AC03 composite adsorbent were 94 min and 701.8 mg/g,respectively, and the recycling efficiency was 92.8% after thermal desorption at 200°*** adsorption process was best described by the Bangham model and adsorption could be divided into three stages.
