It has been founded that the interannual variabili ty of LHF exhibits strong ENSO signal with the significant increasing LHF during the recent two warm events i.e. 1982 / 83 and 1986 / 87 and decreasing LHF in the cold episodes. However the longitudinal distribution of the LHF departures varies from event to event. In the eastern Pacific the specific humidity difference at air-sea interface (qs -qa) makes a dominant contribution to the interannual variability of LHF ( r = 0.73 ) while in the western Pacific the surface wind speed W and the qs - qa make nearly equal contribution to that of LHF.

It is revealed that there is a kind of abrupt nonlinear characteristic behaviour which relates to rapid onset and intermittency of El Nino events on the second order slow time scale due to the nonlinear interaction between a linear unstable low-frequency primary eigen component of ocean-atmosphere coupled Kelvin wave and its higher order harmonic components under a strong ocean-atmosphere coupling background. And on the other hand there is a kind of finite amplitude nonlinear characteristic behaviour on the second order slow time scale due to the nonlinear interaction between the linear unstable primary eigen component and its higher order harmonic components under a weak ocean-atmosphere coupling background in this model system.

Relation Between Equatorial Oceanic Activities and LOD Changes

作者: 郑大伟 陈刚 Shanghai Observatory Academia SinicaShanghai 200030PRC Shanghai Observatory Academia SinicaShanghai 200030PRChe time series of the length of day (LOD) and the observational Pacific sea level during l962.0-1990.0 are used to study the relation between Earth rotation and equatorial oceanic activities.The results show that (i) the sea level is apparently rising at an average rate of about 1.75±.01mm/a during the past 30 years(ii) there are large-scale eastward and westward water motions in the upper equatorial Pacific zonewhichaccording to the dynamical analysis of the angular momentum of the large-scale sea water motion in Pacific Ocean related to the Earth rotation axis accounts for about 30% of the change in ititerannual Eatlh rotation rate (iii) the interannual changes in Earth rotation also cause changes in the distribution of the water mass in equatorial Pacific and affect the formation of ENSO events.Based on these resultswe give a new model for the interaction between equatorial ocean and Earth rotation.

作者: 蒲书箴 赵进平 于卫东 赵永平 杨波 First Institute of Oceanography State Oceanic Administration Qingdao 266061 Institute of Oceanology Chinese Academy of Sciences Qingdao 266071 First Institute of Oceanography State Oceanic Administration Qingdao 266061his paper summarizes the progress of large-scale air-sea interaction studies that has been achieved in China in the four-year period from July 1998 to July 2002 including seven aspects in the area of the air-sea interaction namely air-sea interaction related to the tropical Pacific Ocean monsoon-related air-sea interaction air-sea interaction in the north Pacific Ocean air-sea interaction in the Indian Ocean air-sea interactions in the global oceans field experiments and oceanic cruise surveys. However more attention has been paid to the first and the second aspects because a large number of papers in the reference literature for preparing and organizing this paper are concentrated in the tropical Pacific Ocean such as the ENSO process with its climatic effects and dynamics and the monsoon-related air-sea interaction. The literature also involves various phenomena with their different time and spatial scales such as intraseasonal annual interannual and interdecadal variabilities in the atmosphere/ocean interaction system reflecting the contemporary themes in the four-year period at the beginning of an ara from the post-TOGA to CLIVAR studies. Apparently it is a difficult task to summarize the great progress in this area as it is extracted from a large quantity of literature although the authors tried very hard.
