This study explores the tradeoff relationship between the number of initial attack firefighting resources and the level of fire ignition prevention efforts mitigating the probability of human-made fires in the Republic of Korea,where most fires are caused by human *** examine this tradeoff relationship,we develop a hybrid model that combines a robust optimization model with a stochastic simulation *** robust optimization minimizes the expected number of fires not receiving a pre-defined response,such as the number of firefighting resources that must arrive at the fire within half an hour,subject to budget constraints and uncertainty about the daily number and location of *** simulation model produces a set of fire scenarios in which a combination of number,location,ignition time,and intensity of fires *** show that fire ignition prevention is as cost-effective as initial attack firefighting resources given the current budget in the Republic of Korea for reducing the expected number of fires not covered by the predefined *** mixed policy of fire suppression and fire prevention may produce some gains in efficiency relative to the dominant policy of strong fire suppression strategies.

The mechanical properties of LA40 magnesium alloy were investigated under compression at room temperature. In the applied strain rate range from 1.33×10-4s-1 to 6.66×10-4s-1,this alloy shows positive strain rate sensitivity (SRS). Most importantly, the Portevin-Le Chatelier(PLC) effect which is an interesting and dominant feature in tensile tests disappears under compressive conditions. Only one twinning system is activated under tensile deformation, while at least two twinning modes are operative during compression. Additionally, the effect of dynamic strain aging (DSA), and the main mechanism for the onset of PLC phenomenon during tension, will be weakened because the strengthened obstructing influence of twins on solute atoms and the disappearance of PLC is inevitable.

Structure, dielectric and magnetodielectric properties of Bi_(1-x)Gd_xFeO_3 Ceramics

Different magnetodielectric effects were observed in Bi1-xGdxFeOa ceramics depending on gadolinium content. A positive one was observed in the samples with x ≤ 0.10 at 295 K and 16 K, and a negative one in the sample with x = 0.4 at 16 K. Structure analysis by x-ray diffraction （XRD） reveals that the samples crystallize in the R3c structure （ferroelectrics） for x 〈 0.08 and in the Pbnm structure （paraelectrics） for x ≥ 0.3 at room temperature. Temperaturedependent dielectric response and x-ray diffraction confirm the occurrence of a structural transition in the Pbnm phase at low temperature for the samples with x ≤0.4. While the positive magnetodielectric effects can be attributed to a coupling of magnetic and crystallographic structures of the R3c phase, the observed negative magnetodielectric effect in the Pbnm phase can be associated with a low-temperature modification of the Pbnm structure. The observed dualsigned magnetodielectric effects suggest that the Bi1-xGdxFeO3 oxides are a good prototype for understanding the magnetodielectric coupling mechanism in this kind of materials.

Annual precipitation,evaporation,and calculated accumulation from reanalysis model outputs have been investigated for the Greenland Ice Sheet （GrIS）,based on the common period of *** ERA-40 and ERA-interim reanalysis data showed better agreement with observations than do NCEP-1 and NCEP-2 ***,ERA-interim showed the closest spatial distribution of accumulation to the *** temporal variations,ERA-interim showed the best correlation with precipitation observations at five synoptic stations,and the best correlation with in situ measurements of accumulation at nine ice core *** mean annual precipitation averaged over the whole GrIS from ERA-interim （363 mm yr 1） and mean annual accumulation （319 mm yr 1） are very close to the *** validation of accumulation calculated from reanalysis data against ice-core measurements suggests that further improvements to reanalysis models are needed.

The incidences of open angle glaucoma(OAG)and high myopia are increasing *** the aging population and concurrent rapid increase in the number of individuals with myopia,the risk of visual defects caused by highly myopic OAG is likely to increase dramatically over the next few ***,precise screening and diagnosis of OAG is challenging because of the tilt and rotation of the optic disc,as well as extensiveβ-zone parapapillary atrophy in highly myopic *** advances in optical coherence tomography(OCT)and OCT angiography(OCTA)technologies imply that both modalities are promising tools for the detection of highly myopic ***,the diagnosis of OAG remains to be determined with the longitudinal changes of functional damages(*** field defect,visual electrophysiological changes).We herein describe some aspects of microvascular and microstructural pathology in patients with highly myopic OAG and proposes a framework for the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
