Early Paleozoic magmatism in the West Kunlun Orogenic Belt(WKOB)preserves important information about the tectonic evolution of the Proto-Tethys *** paper reports whole-rock compositions,zircon and apatite U-Pb dating,and zircon Hf isotopes for the Qiaerlong Pluton(QEL)at the northwestern margin of WKOB,with the aim of elucidating the petrogenesis of the pluton and shedding insights into the subduction-collision process of this oceanic *** QEL is mainly composed of Ordovician quartz monzodiorite(479±3 Ma),quartz monzonite(467–472 Ma),and syenogranite(463±4 Ma),and is intruded by Middle Silurian peraluminous granite(429±20 Ma)and diabase(421±4 Ma).Zirconε_(Hf)(t)values reveal that quartz monzodiorites(+2.1 to+9.9)and quartz monzonites(+0.6 to+6.8)were derived from a mixed source of juvenile crust and older lower crust,and syenogranites(−5.6 to+4.5)and peraluminous granites(−2.9 to+2.0)were generated from a mixed source of lower crust and upper crust;diabases had zirconε_(Hf)(t)values ranging from−0.3 to+4.1,and contained 463±5 Ma captured zircon and 1048±39 Ma inherited zircon,indicating they originated from enriched lithospheric mantle and were contaminated by crustal *** Ordovician granitoids are enriched in LILEs and light rare-earth elements,and depleted in HFSEs with negative Nb,Ta,P,and Ti anomalies,suggesting that they formed in a subduction *** Silurian peraluminous granites have the characteristics of leucogranites with high SiO_(2)contents(74.92 wt.%–75.88 wt.%)and distinctly negative Eu anomalies(δEu=0.03–0.14),indicating that they belong to highly fractionated granite and were formed in a post-collision extension *** analysis of these results with other Early Paleozoic magmas reveals that the Proto-Tethys ocean closed before the Middle Silurian and its southward subduction resulted in the formation of QEL.

It is well-known that the equilibrium isotope fractionation of mercury(Hg)includes classical massdependent fractionations(MDFs)and nuclear volume effect(NVE)induced mass-independent fractionations(MIFs).However,the effect of the NVE on these kinetic processes is not *** total fractionations(MDFs+NVEinduced MIFs)of several representative Hg-incorporated substances were selected and calculated with ab initio calculations in this work for both equilibrium and kinetic ***-induced MIFs were calculated with scaled contact electron densities at the nucleus through systematic evaluations of their accuracy and errors using the Gaussian09 and DIRAC19 packages(named the electron density scaling method).Additionally,the NVE-induced kinetic isotope effect(KIE)of Hg isotopes are also calculated with this method for several representative Hg oxidation reactions by chlorine *** KIEs for 202 Hg/^(198)Hg ranging from−2.27‰to 0.96‰are *** anomalous^(202)Hg-enriched KIEs(δ^(202)Hg/^(198)Hg=0.83‰,0.94‰,and 0.96‰,)caused by the NVE are observed,which are quite different from the classical view(i.e.,light isotopes react faster than the heavy ones).The electron density scaling method we developed in this study can provide an easier way to calculate the NVE-induced KIEs for heavy isotopes and serve to better understand the fractionation mechanisms of mercury isotope systems.

Due to their high density,the ilmenite-bearing cumulates(IBC)(with or without KREEP)formed during the late-stage lunar magma ocean solidification are thought to sink into the underlying lunar mantle and trigger lunar mantle *** evidence implied that IBC may descend deep inside the Moon and remain as a partially molten layer at the core-mantle boundary(CMB).However,partial melting may have occurred on the mixed mantle cumulates during the sinking of IBC/KREEP and the silicate melt may be positively buoyant,thus preventing the IBC/KREEP layer from sinking to the ***,we perform thermodynamic simulation on the stability of lunar mantle cumulates at different depths mixed with different amounts of IBC/KREEP from an updated LMO *** modeling results suggest that the sinking of IBC/KREEP will cause at least 5 wt%partial melting in the shallow(~120 km)and a much larger degree of partial melting in the deep lunar mantle(~420 km).Due to the density contrast with the surrounding mantle,IBC/KREEP-bearing melts could potentially decouple under certain *** modified lunar mantle by sinking of IBC/KREEP can better explain the formation of different kinds of lunar basaltic magma than the primary lunar mantle formed through differentiation of lunar magma *** of IBC/KREEP back into the lunar mantle may introduce plagioclase,clinopyroxene,garnet,and incompatible radioactive elements into the deep lunar mantle,which will further affect the thermal and chemical evolution of the lunar interior.

Magnetite from hydrothermal deposits may show compositional zoning with various mineral inclusions in response to the evolution of hydrothermal fluids. Magnetite from the Fenghuangshan Cu-Fe-Au skarn deposit (Eastern China) is a common mineral formed in the earlier stage of skarnization. Magnetite grains have dark gray and light gray zones and contain diverse mineral inclusions. Dark gray zones have higher Si， Ca， Al， and Mg contents than light gray zones. The magnetite matrix from dark gray zones shows superstructure along the [0-11] zone axis in fast Fourier transform patterns， different from magnetite from light gray zones with normal structure. Three types of mineral inclusions are identified within magnetite: nano-， micron- and submicron-nanometer inclusions. Nanoinclusions hosted in dark gray zones are actinolite， diopside， and trace element-rich magnetite， and these are likely formed by growth entrapment during magnetite crystallization at the skarn stage. The chain-width order-disorder intergrowths of diopside nanoinclusion likely indicate fluctuating fluid compositions in a lattice scale. Submicron to nanometer inclusions at the boundary between dark gray and light gray zones are quartz， titanite， and Ti-rich magnetite， which were formed via a dissolution and reprecipitation process at the quartz-sulfide stage. Micron-inclusions randomly distributed in both dark and light gray zones include calcite， ankerite， quartz， and chlorite， and these were formed via penetration of fluids at the carbonate stage. Zoned magnetite was formed by fluid replacement， overgrowth， and fluid infilling. Our study highlights the importance of mineral inclusion assemblages， and textural and chemical zonation of magnetite in constraining fluid evolution.

Isotope eff ects are pivotal in understanding silicate melt evaporation and planetary accretion *** on the Hertz-Knudsen equation,the current theory often fails to predict observed isotope fractionations of laboratory experiments due to its oversimplified ***,we point out that the Hertz-Knudsen-equation-based theory is incomplete for silicate melt evaporation cases and can only be used for situations where the vaporized species is identical to the one in the *** propose a new model designed for silicate melt evaporation under *** model considers multiple steps including mass transfer,chemical reaction,and *** derivations reveal a kinetic isotopic fractionation factor(KIFF orα)αour model=[m(^(1)species)/m(^(2)species)]^(0.5),where m(species)is the mass of the reactant of reaction/nucleation-limiting step or species of diffusion-limiting step and superscript 1 and 2 represent light and heavy isotopes,*** model can eff ectively reproduce most reported KIFFs of laboratory experiments for various elements,i.e.,Mg,Si,K,Rb,Fe,Ca,and ***,the KIFF-mixing model referring that an overall rate of evaporation can be determined by two steps jointly can account for the eff ects of low P_(H2)pressure,composition,and *** addition,we find that chemical reactions,diffusion,and nucleation can control the overall rate of evaporation of silicate melts by using the fitting slope in ln(−ln f)versus ln(t).Notably,our model allows for the theoretical calculations of parameters like activation energy(E_(a)),providing a novel approach to studying compositional and environmental eff ects on evaporation processes,and shedding light on the formation and evolution of the proto-solar and Earth-Moon systems.

Clay-type Li deposits are poised to play a pivotal role in addressing the surging global demand for *** McDermitt clay-type Li deposit,located in Nevada,is the largest Li deposit in the United states,with Li hosted by a clay-rich sequence of smectite-dominated intervals and illite-dominated intervals,***,the occurrence of Li and the genesis of Li-bearing minerals within smectite-dominated intervals have not been thoroughly investigated in previous ***,we studied the mineralogy,the in-situ Li distribution,and the bonding environments of Li within the smectite intervals using a combination of instru-mental techniques including scanning electron microscope,transmission electron microscope,time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry,and nuclear magnetic *** results indicate that the smectite exhibits low crystallinity characteristics of lacustrine clay authigenesis and is com-monly found tofill the interstices among volcanic minerals or envelop them;Li is mainly hosted by Mg-smectite rather than the volcanic *** the tuffaceous sediment samples,the volcanic glass has undergone a transformation,resulting in its complete disappearance and alteration into clay *** to the octahedral sites of Mg-smectite bounded in Li,it is referred to be *** interpret that the hectorite’s precipitation occurs in a high saline-alkaline water environment,a result of McDermitt *** conclusion can be supported by the coexistence of spherulitic calcite and ***,this study confirms hectorite as the main Li-bearing mineral and increases the understanding of the genetic model of hectorite formation in intracontinental caldera basins.

Paleoproterozoic A-type granites are widely distributed in the southern margin of the North China Craton(SNCC),providing important information for understanding the Paleoproterozoic tectonic regimes in this *** paper reports newly obtained whole-rock compositions and zircon U-Pb ages for the Tieluping syenogranite porphyry(TLP)and Huoshenmiao alkali granite porphyry(HSM)in the *** from the TLP and HSM have U-Pb ages of 1805±12 and 1792±14 Ma,*** ages are taken to date the emplacement of these *** had high total alkali contents(K_(2)O+Na_(2)O>7.13 wt.%),with high 10000×Ga/Al ratios(3.06–3.41)and Zr+Y+Nb+Ce values(709 ppm–910 ppm)as well as high zircon saturation temperatures(864–970℃),indicative of A-type granite *** Y/Nb(1.75–3.32),Ce/Nb(7.72–9.72),and Yb/Ta(2.89–5.60)ratios suggested that TLP and HSM belonged to the A2-type *** negative whole rockε_(Nd)(t)values(−8.4 to−6.6)and negative zirconε_(Hf)(t)values(−15.9 to−6.3)confirmed that TLP and HSM were likely generated by the partial melting of an ancient continental ***εHf(t)(−7.4 to+4.0)values of inherited zircons in the TLP suggested that they were derived from the partial melting of Archean basement *** the geochemical similarity of the 1.80 Ga A-type granitoids in the SNCC,we propose that the TLP and HSM were formed in a post-collisional regime that was likely associated with the break-off of the Paleoproterozoic subducted *** of the asthenosphere provided huge heat to generate the regional 1.80 Ga A-type granite in the SNCC.
