The mystery surrounds a striking addition Zhu Xi （1130-1200） made to the Confucian Dao succession （Daotong）, an addition that augured far-reaching consequences for Neo-Confucianism.

What is Enlightenment？ Can China Answer Kant＇s question？ This is the title and subtitle, respectively, of Wei Zhang＇s book. An ambitious project due to two factors： the difficulty of answering the question anywhere, not only in China, and the difficulty of translating that question into Chinese reality. The problem that Zhang will try to resolve is whether or not the May Fourth movement could be considered the Chinese Enlightenment. Prior to digging into that answer I will start by analyzing the first, titular question.

Industrial thin-film composite(TFC) membranes achieve superior gas separation properties from high-performance selective layer materials,while the success of membrane technology relies on high-performance gutter layers to achieve production scalability and low-cost manufacturing. However, the current literature predominantly focuses on the design of polymer architectures to obtain high permeability and selectivity, while the art of fabricating gutter layers is usually safeguarded by industrial manufacturers and appears lackluster to academic researchers. This is the first report aiming to provide a comprehensive and critical review of state-of-the-art gutter layer materials and their design and modification to enable TFC membranes with superior separation performance. We first elucidate the importance of the gutter layer on membrane performance through modeling and experimental results. Then various gutter layer materials used to obtain high-performance composite membranes are critically reviewed, and the strategies to improve their compatibility with the selective layer are highlighted, such as oxygen plasma treatment, polydopamine deposition, and surface grafting. Finally, we present the opportunities of the gutter layer design for practical applications.

Objective:To determine whether an association exists between group B Streptococcus(GBS)colonization and preeclampsia among pregnant Black ***:This retrospective cross-sectional study involved Black women who gave birth at state university of new york Downstate Hospital between January 2010 and December *** were collected from the Obstetric Department,including delivery date,time,mode of delivery,age of the mother,weeks of gestation at delivery,and antepartum *** GBS test results were originally determined using the eSwab transport *** was defined based on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists criteria for the periods 2010–2012 and 2013–*** primary outcome was whether GBS was associated with the outcome of preeclampsia in the population of Black ***,including smoking status,gestational age,parity,body mass index,maternal age,and presence of herpes simplex virus(HSV)and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)were examined as potential ***-squared test and logistic regression model were used,presenting odds ratios with 95%confidence intervals(P<0.050),analyzed with SAS on Demand for Academics(SAS Institute,Inc.,NY).Results:Among the 8,019 Black women included in this study,GBS-positive women(n=977)had a 53%reduction in the likelihood of being diagnosed with preeclampsia compared to GBS-negative women(adjusted odds ratio,0.47;95%confidence interval,0.32–0.70).We did not find evidence of differences in the distribution of smoking habits(P=0.783)or maternal age(P=0.107)between GBS-positive and GBS-negative ***,the GBS-positive women tended to be less likely to have a preterm delivery(9.62%(94/977)vs.24.24%(1707/7042),P<0.001),less likely to be nulliparous(33.37%(326/977)vs.37.87%(2667/7042),P=0.006),and less likely to be obese(51.38%(502/977)vs.55.30%(3894/7042),P<0.001)compared with GBS-negative *** contrast,GBS-positive women were more likely to have a comorbid infecti

We establish an explicit embedding of a quantum affine sl_(n) into a quantum affine sl_(n)+*** embedding serves as a common generalization of two natural,but seemingly unrelated,embed-dings,one on the quantum affine Schur algebra level and the other on the non-quantum *** embedding on the quantum affine Schur algebras is used extensively in the analysis of canonical bases of quantum affine sln and gl_(n).The embedding on the non-quantum level is used crucially in a work of Riche and Williamson on the study of modular representation theory of general linear groups over a finite *** same embedding is also used in a work of Maksimau on the categorical representations of affine general linear *** further provide a more natural compatibility statement of the em-bedding on the idempotent version with that on the quantum affine Schur algebra level.A gl_(n)-variant of the embedding is also established.

Diffractive nonlocal metasurfaces have recently opened a broad range of exciting developments in nanophotonics research and applications,leveraging spatially extended—yet locally patterned—resonant modes to control light with new degrees of *** conventional grating responses are elegantly captured by temporal coupled mode theory,current approaches are not well equipped to capture the arbitrary spatial response observed in the nascent field of nonlocal ***,we introduce spatio-temporal coupled mode theory(STCMT),capable of elegantly capturing the key features of the resonant response of wavefront-shaping nonlocal *** framework can quantitatively guide nonlocal metasurface design while maintaining compatibility with local metasurface frameworks,making it a powerful tool to rationally design and optimize a broad class of ultrathin optical *** validate this STCMT framework against full-wave simulations of various nonlocal metasurfaces,demonstrating that this tool offers a powerful semi-analytical framework to understand and model the physics and functionality of these devices,without the need for computationally intense full-wave *** also discuss how this model may shed physical insights into nonlocal phenomena in photonics and the functionality of the resulting *** a relevant example,we showcase STCMT’s flexibility by applying it to study and rapidly prototype nonlocal metasurfaces that spatially shape thermal emission.

Under the general trend of the rapid development of smart grids,data security and privacy are facing serious challenges;protecting the privacy data of single users under the premise of obtaining user-aggregated data has attracted widespread *** this study,we propose an encryption scheme on the basis of differential privacy for the problem of user privacy leakage when aggregating data from multiple smart ***,we use an improved homomorphic encryption method to realize the encryption aggregation of users’***,we propose a double-blind noise addition protocol to generate distributed noise through interaction between users and a cloud platform to prevent semi-honest participants from stealing data by colluding with one ***,the simulation results show that the proposed scheme can encrypt the transmission of multi-intelligent meter data under the premise of satisfying the differential privacy *** if an attacker has enough background knowledge,the security of the electricity information of one another can be ensured.

We study radiative p^(15)N capture on the ground state of ^(16)O at stellar energies within the framework of a modified potential cluster model(MPCM)with forbidden states,including low-lying *** investigation of the ^(15)N(p,γ0)^(16)O reaction includes the consideration of ^(3)S_(1) resonances due to E1 transitions and the contribution of the ^(3)P_(1) scattering wave in the p+^(15)N channel due to the ^(3)P_(1)→^(3)P_(0)M1 *** calculated the astrophysical low-energy S-factor,and the extrapolated S(0)turned out to be within 34.7−40.4 keV·*** important role of the asymptotic constant(AC)for the ^(15)N(p,γ0)16O process with interfering ^(3)S_(1)(312)and ^(3)S_(1)(962)resonances is elucidated.A comparison of our calculation for the S-factor with existing experimental and theoretical data is addressed,and a reasonable agreement is *** reaction rate is calculated and compared with the existing *** has negligible dependence on the variation of AC but shows a strong impact of the interference of ^(3)S_(1)(312)and ^(3)S_(1)(962)resonances in reference to the CNO Gamow windows,especially at low *** estimate the contribution of cascade transitions to the reaction rate based on the exclusive experimental data from ***.C.85,065810(2012).The reaction rate enhancement due to the cascade transitions is observed from T_(9)>0.3 and reaches the maximum factor~1.3 at T_(9)=*** present the Gamow energy window and a comparison of rates for radiative proton capture reactions ^(12)N(p,γ)^(13)O,^(13)N(p,γ)^(14)O,^(14)N(p,γ)^(15)O,and ^(15)N(p,γ)^(16)O obtained in the framework of the MPCM and provide the temperature windows,prevalence,and significance of each process.

An integrated photonic circuit architecture to perform a modified-convolution operation based on the discrete fractional Fourier transform(DFrFT) is introduced. This is accomplished by utilizing two nonuniformly coupled waveguide lattices with equally spaced eigenmode spectra, the lengths of which are chosen so that the DFrFT and its inverse operations are achieved. A programmable modulator array is interlaced so that the required fractional convolution operation is performed. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed architecture can effectively perform smoothing and edge detection tasks even for noisy input signals, which is further verified by electromagnetic wave simulations. Notably, mild lattice defects do not jeopardize the architecture performance, showing its resilience to manufacturing errors. ? 2024 Chinese Laser Press

Tunable optical materials are indispensable elements in modern optoelectronics,especially in integrated photonics circuits where precise control over the effective refractive index is essential for diverse ***-dimensional materials like transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)and graphene exhibit remarkable optical responses to external ***,achieving distinctive modulation across short-wave infrared(SWIR)regions while enabling precise phase control at low signal loss within a compact footprint remains an ongoing *** this work,we unveil the robust electro-refractive response of multilayer ferroionic two-dimensional CuCrP2S6(CCPS)in the near-infrared wavelength *** integrating CCPS into silicon photonics(SiPh)microring resonators(MRR),we enhance lightmatter interaction and measurement sensitivity to minute phase and absorption *** show that electrically driven Cu ions can tune the effective refractive index on the order of 2.8×10−3 RIU(refractive index unit)while preserving extinction ratios and resonance ***,these devices exhibit low optical losses and excellent modulation efficiency of 0.25 *** with a consistent blue shift in the resonance wavelengths among all devices for either polarity of the applied *** results outperform earlier findings on phase shifters based on ***,our study demonstrates distinct variations in electro-optic tuning sensitivity when comparing transverse electric(TE)and transverse magnetic(TM)modes,revealing a polarization-dependent response that paves the way for diverse applications in light *** combined optoelectronic and ionotronic capabilities of two-terminal CCPS devices present extensive opportunities across several *** potential applications range from phased arrays and optical switching to their use in environmental sensing and metrology,optical imaging systems,and neuromorphic systems in light-sensitive artificial synapses.
