Bacterial communities play pivotal roles in nutrient cycling in mangrove *** assembly of mangrove microbial communities has been found to be influenced by complex factors,such as geographic distance,physicochemical conditions,and plant identity,but the relative importance of these factors and how these factors shape the assembling process remain *** analyzed the bacterial communities sampled from three mangrove species(Aegiceras corniculatum,Bruguiera sexangula,and Kandelia obovata)at three locations along the estuarine Dongzhai Harbor in Hainan,*** revealed larger differences in rhizosphere bacterial communities among geographical locations than among plant species,indicated by differences in diversity,composition,and interaction *** found that dispersal limitation and homogeneous selection have substantial contributions to the assembly of mangrove rhizosphere bacterial communities in all three *** the phylogenetic‐bin‐based null model analysis(iCAMP)framework,we also found dispersal limitation and homogeneous selection showing dominance in some *** greater differences among geographic locations may be mainly attributed to the larger proportions of dispersal limitation even at such a short geographic *** also found that beta diversity was positively correlated with environmental distances,implying that the more similar environmental conditions(such as rich carbon and nitrogen contents)among plant species may have shaped similar bacterial *** concluded that the geographic distances,which are associated with dispersal limitation,played a key role in assembling mangrove rhizosphere bacterial communities,while physicochemical conditions and plant identity contributed less.

Legumes can control the number of symbiotic nodules that form on their roots, thus balancing nitrogen assimilation and energy consumption. Two major pathways participate in nodulation: the Nod factor(NF)signaling pathway which involves recognition of rhizobial bacteria by root cells and promotion of nodulation, and the autoregulation of nodulation(AON) pathway which involves long-distance negative feedback between roots and shoots. Although a handful of genes have a clear role in the maintenance of nodule number, additional unknown factors may also be involved in this process. Here, we identify a novel function for a Lotus japonicus ALOG(Arabidopsis LSH1 and Oryza G1) family member, LjALOG1,involved in positively regulating nodulation. LjALOG1 expression increased substantially after inoculation with rhizobia, with high levels of expression in whole nodule primordia and in the base of developing nodules. The ljalog1 mutants, which have an insertion of the LORE1 retroelement in LjALOG1, had significantly fewer nodules compared with wild type, along with increased expression of LjCLE-RS1(L. japonicus CLE Root Signal 1), which encodes a nodulation suppressor in the AON pathway. In summary,our findings identified a novel factor that participates in controlling nodulation, possibly by suppressing the AON pathway.

High cadmium pollution risk on vegetable amaranth and a selection for pollution-safe cultivars to lower the risk

A pot experiment was carried out by growing 29 different genotypes （Amaranthus spp.） of vegetable amaranth under low- （0.12 mg. kg-1） and middle- （0.40 mg · kg-1） cadmium （Cd） exposure. The result showed that amaranth was vulnerable to cadmium （Cd） contamination in soil. Variations of Cd concentrations in both roots and edible parts among genotypes were significant （P 〈 0.001） in both treatments. Cd concentrations in edible parts of the tested genotypes grown under low- and middle-Cd levels were significantly correlated （p 〈 0.01）, implying that Cd- accumulating property of amaranth is genotype-dependent. Differences in Cd chemical forms between cv. Nanxing- dayemashixian （cv. Nan）, a selected typical pollution-safe cultivar （Cd-PSC）, and cv. Pennongjianyexian （cv. Pen）, a selected typical non-Cd-PSC, under different Cd exposure conditions were compared. It was found that the alternation of Cd in FNaC1 （Cd form extracted by 1 mol.L-1NaC1） may be a key factor in regulating Cd accumulation of different amaranth genotypes and that the protein-binding Cd is considered to be associated with Cd translocation. The results indicated that amaranth is capable of enduring high level of Cd pollution when grown as vegetable crop, and accordingly, consuming vegetable amaranth would bring high health risk. Therefore, adopting Cd-PSC strategy would help reducing the risk of Cd pollution in amaranth. In this study, cv. Nan was identified as a Cd-PSC and recommended to be applied production practice.

Arabidopsis thallana CERK1 is an essential receptor-like kinase in the chitin signal transduction pathway. The juxtamembrane (JM) domain of CERK1 regulates the kinase activity of this receptor. Here we demonstrate that the JM domains of LysM RLKs, CERK1,and OsCERK1 play a functionally conserved role in the activation of chitin signaling in Arabidopsis. The Ctrmini of the JM domains of both CERK1 and OsCERK1 are indispensable for their function. Moreover, after replacing the JM domain of CERK1 with that of the non-homologous RLK, BAK1 (CJBa) or FL52 (CJFI), the chimeric CERK1 receptors maintained their ability to *** chitin signaling in Arabidopsis. Interestingly, theheterologous expression of CJBa and CJFI did not induce cell death in Nicotiand benthamiand leaves. These results suggest that the JM domains of CERK1, BAK1, and FLS2 play a conserved role in chitin signaling via a mechanism not related to sequence homology.

SeeMore: a spatiotemporal predictive model with bidirectional distillation and level-specific meta-adaptation

Predicting future frames using historical spatiotemporal data sequences is challenging and critical, and it is receiving a lot of attention these days from academic and industrial scholars. Most spatiotemporal predictive algorithms ignore the valuable backward reasoning ability and the disparate learning complexities among different layers and hence, cannot build good long-term dependencies and spatial correlations,resulting in suboptimal solutions. To address the aforementioned issues, we propose a two-stage coarse-to-fine spatiotemporal predictive model with bidirectional distillation and level-specific meta-adaptation(See More)in this paper, which includes a bidirectional distillation network(BDN) and a level-specific meta-adapter(LMA), to gain bidirectional multilevel reasoning. In the first stage, BDN concentrates on bidirectional dynamics modeling and coarsely constructs spatial correlations of different layers, while LMA is introduced in the second fine-tuning stage to refine the multilevel spatial correlations from a meta-learning *** particular, BDN mimics the forward and backward reasoning abilities of humans in a distillation manner,which aids in the development of long-term dependencies. The LMA views learning of different layers as disparate but related tasks and guides the transfer of learning experiences among these tasks through learning complexities. Thus, each layer could be closer to its solutions and could extract more informative spatial correlations. By capturing the enhanced short-term spatial correlations and long-term temporal dependencies,the proposed model could extract adequate knowledge from sequential historical observations and accurately predict future frames whose backtracking preconditions are consistent with the historical sequence. The formation and evolution of deformation texture in polycrystalline materials are studied by phase-field dynamic model. In addition, the driving force of texture evolution is also discussed. In this model, grains with different orientation are defined by a set of continuous non-conserved order parameter fields. Simulation results show that grains with preferred orientation grow at the expense of those with unfavorable orientations. It is more important that, elastic potentia evolution of texture whether the polycrystalline system rather than elastic energy plays a crucial role in the s subjected to uniaxial stress or shear stress.

Reflectance edge guided networks for detail-preserving intrinsic image decomposition

Deep learning-based intrinsic image decomposition methods rely heavily on large-scale training data. However, current real-world datasets only contain sparse annotations, leading to textureless reflectance estimation. Although densely-labeled synthetic datasets are available, the large bias between these two categories easily incurs noticeable artifacts(e.g., shading residuals) on reflectance. To address this issue,we introduce reflectance edges that are predicted by a neural network trained on synthetic data with full supervision. Once trained, this network is able to capture high-frequency details of reflectance while greatly reducing the bias stemming from the discrepancy between different data distributions. We design another neural network to remove shading as much as possible from the input image. As this network is trained solely on real-world datasets, little bias will be introduced but the predicted reflectance will be overly smooth due to limited annotations. To recover texture details of the reflectance while still suppressing bias, we leverage a third neural network to progressively fuse feature maps from both reflectance edge maps and coarse-grained reflectance maps. The well-designed fusion strategy makes the best use of features extracted from the realworld data and helps to generate texture-rich reflectance with fewer artifacts. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.
