Influence of Pixel Quality, Land Cover, and Hydroclimatic Cycle on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer Inundation Monitoring Performance in the Pantanal, Brazil

Moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) time series (TS) have been widely applied for flood monitoring in large tropical wetlands. However, little systematic work is available on the influence of pixel quality, vegetation cover, and the annual hydroclimatic cycle on classification performance. In this study, this issue is examined based on a six-year, 250 m resolution MOD13Q1 TS underpinned by extensive in situ measurements. The most parsimonious logistic regression model was obtained for land surface water index (LSWI) and enhanced vegetation index (EVI). The inclusion of the 500 m MCD12Q1 land cover Type 2 product improves accuracy. Performance markedly decreases for subsets that include pixels with a VI quality assurance (QA) level poorer than 0110 and/or a pixel reliability (PR) of three. When a Savitzky-Golay filter was used for TS reconstitution, performance is slightly lower than those obtained in a classification of a VI QA 0001 or PR = 0 level strata;moreover, these have the advantage of gap-free flood monitoring. The overall accuracy (OA) of the PR = 0 subset is better for grasslands, and slightly lower for Savannah, and for woodland and forests. The average OA is highest for the dry season, intermediate for the rainy/flooded season, and lowest for the transitional seasons, when the wetland becomes flooded or dries. Comparisons of internal, k-fold, and external validations indicate that only external validation enables a realistic assessment of flood-mapping performance. The complete substitution of PR = 3 pixels by filled-in values is recommended for operational flood monitoring, and it is concluded that the use of the simplified PR metrics as filtering criteria for gap filling and smoothing is sufficient for flood monitoring in the Pantanal. We demonstrate in this work that wild animals can have an important role in the epidemiological chain and must be considered in order to plan methods of control of this zoonosis.

Lithium-oxygen batteries are a promising technology because they can greatly surpass the energy density of lithium-ion ***,this theoretical characteristic has not yet been converted into a real device with high *** with air contamination,metallic lithium reactivity,and complex discharge and charge reactions are the main issues for this technology.A fast and reversible oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)is crucial for good performance of secondary batteries',but the partial knowledge of its mechanisms,especially when devices are concerned,hinders further *** this perspective,the present work uses operando Raman experiments and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)to assess the first stages of the discharge processes in porous carbon electrodes,following their changes cycle by cycle at initial operation.A growth kinetic formation of the discharge product signal(Li_(2)O_(2))was observed with operando Raman,indicating a first-order reaction and enabling an analysis by a microkinetic *** solution mechanism in the evaluated system was ascribed for an equivalent circuit with three time *** the time constant for the anode interface reveals to remain relatively constant after the first discharge,its surface seemed to be more *** model indicated that the reaction occurs at the Li_(2)O_(2) surface,decreasing the associated resistance during the initial discharge ***,the growth of Li_(2)O_(2) forms a hetero-phase between Li_(2)O_(2)/electrolyte,while creating a more compact and homogeneous on the Li_(2)O_(2)/cathode *** methodology here described thus offers a way of directly probing changes in surface chemistry evolution during cycling from a device through EIS analysis.

Physiological Conditioning of Alibertia edulis(Rich)Seeds

Physiological conditioning of seeds has been shown to increase the uniformity of seedlings;thus, it has been useful for propagating native tree species from the Brazilian Cerrado which, otherwise, are difficult to propagate successfully. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of physiological conditioning of Alibertia edulis seeds by soaking for 5 or 10 days in solutions of varying osmotic potential. After conditioning, seeds were dried down to original water content, sown on sheets of germitest paper inside gerbox plastic boxes, and incubated at 25°C. We evaluated the effect of conditioning by studying seed germination and vigor. Seed conditioning by osmotic pretreatment showed positive effects;however, germination and growth of seedlings from seeds conditioned at osmotic potentials of -0.3 to -0.7 MPa were reduced. Osmoconditioning for 10 days at -0.7 MPa resulted in increased percent germination, indicating that the longest imbibition period in the osmotic solution of the lowest osmotic potential (-1.3 MPa) favored the seed germination process. A. edulis seeds did not require conditioning to attain high germination rates;nonetheless, osmotic conditioning reduced average seed-germination time.

People with visual impairments(PwVI)represent a heterogeneous social group who often experience significant disabling barriers in exercising their rights throughout their life *** dimensions of vulnerability of PwVI to disasters and climate change is an important issue to reduce the culture of neglected *** date,few studies have analyzed visual impairment and disaster risk reduction(DRR)in the countries of Latin America and the *** exploratory qualitative research project analyzed how to include PwVI in the DRR policies of *** research question is:how can we include PwVI in the discussion of DRR and climate change?The response to this question is part of a joint effort that involved a university,a hazard monitoring agency,and three institutions that work with *** three main results of the project are:(1)a mapping method to identify the exposure of PwVI to landslides and floods,and to create tactile risk maps tailored to them;(2)incorporating the voices of PwVI regarding their vulnerabilities and capacities with respect to disasters and climate change,achieved through shared interaction during 15 face to face interviews and one workshop attended by 100 people;and(3)an initiative of inclusive education to reduce some of the disabling barriers that intensify vulnerability.

Nutritional evaluation of integral cassava root silages for growing pigs

The experiment aimed at determining the nutritional value of integral cassava root silages with yogurt as inoculant or wastewater(manipueira) by liquid addition ensiling process. Eighteen crossbred piglets(Large White x Landrace), castrated males with an initial average weight of 50 kg were allocated in metabolism cages throughout 11-day trial duration(6 days for animal's adaptation to the cages and to the experimental diets, and 5 days of urine and faeces collection). The experimental design was a randomized block arrangement with 3 treatments and 6 replicates: basal diet(100%); mixture composed of75% basal diet and 25% integral cassava root silage with yogurt as inoculant; a mixture composed of 75%of basal diet and 25% integral cassava root silage with wastewater. The silages with wastewater and yogurt presented the following values of apparent digestibility of dry matter 89.96% and 90.01%,apparent digestibility of crude protein of 60.67% and 66.43%, apparent digestibility of gross energy of90.43% and 91.48%, gross energy metabolizability coefficients of 87.88% and 88.93%, digestible energy values of 3,705 and 3,783 kcal/kg on a dry matter(DM) basis, and metabolizable energy values of 3,600 and 3,676 kcal/kg DM, respectively. The results have demonstrated that integral cassava root silages with wastewater or yogurt have a high nutritional value and can be used as an alternative energy source in growing pig's diets.

Synthesis and Characterization of a New Compound of Cobalt Ⅱ with Isonicotinamide and Evaluation of the Bactericidal Potential

In this work, the isonicotinamide was coordinated to the Cobalt ion in oxidation state +2. The relevance of this work is the investigation of the in vitro bactericidal potential of the synthesized complex when tested in Gram-positive and negative bacteria strains. This study is motivated by the need to obtain new materials that have antibiotic properties and that, in the future, may become an effective drug against resistant bacteria. A new coordination compound of Cobalt and isonicotinamide, [Co(H2O)(isn)3](BF4)2, was synthesized and described. The compound was characterized by thermoanalytical techniques TG-DTG and TG-DSC, where it was possible to propose the mechanism of thermal decomposition. Through the spectroscopy in the region of the medium infrared (FTIR), it is possible to infer the site of connection between isonicotinamide and metal. The bactericidal activity of [Co(H2O)(isn)3](BF4)2, CoCl2 and free Isonicotinamide were tested for the bacteria Streptococcus mutans (Gram+) and Escherichia coli (Gram−) and the synthesized compound showed to be sensitive for both bacteria.

Natural Regeneration in Tropical Secondary Forest in Southern Amazonia, Brazil

The study aimed to establish floral composition, diversity levels, category size, phytosociological structure, commercial use and ecological group of species present in the regeneration of open ombrophile forest in southern Amazon, Brazil. Data were collected at S?o Nicolau farm, in the municipality of Cotrigua?u, northwest of mato grosso state, coordinates 51°9'19.5"S and 58°14'53"W. One hundred plots of 10 × 10 m were allocated. All individuals between 29.9 and 59.9 cm had circumference at breast height (CAP) measure, with sub-plots of 5 × 5 m which were measured in all subjects between 1:50 m in height 29.9 cm CAP and sub-plots of 2 × 2 m for individuals between 0.30 to 1.5 m tall. The information obtained in the field were processed in excel spreadsheet. The results showed the occurrence of 610 individuals belonging to 82 species, 34 plant families, with a diversity index of Shannon & Weaver’s 2.77. The index of value of importance showed species Protium robustum, Maquira calophilla and Inga fagifolium with greater ecological importance in fitocenose. The higher values for Natural Regeneration were the species Protium robustum, Maquira calophilla and Inga fagifolium with 16.42, 8.03 and 7.76 respectively.

One Pr（Ⅲ） lanthanide ion complex was initially synthesized and characterized by TGA-DSC in air atmosphere, as well as characterized by CHN elemental analysis, defining the stoichiometric ratio as Pr（DMBz）3. The gaseous products evolved during the thermal decomposition were also monitored in N2 atmosphere employing TGA/FT-IR system. A crystal structure is obtained by state-of-the-art powder X-rays diffraction methods measured in conventional laboratory equipment and refined by the Rietveld method, which defined it as a monoclinic system of the space group P21/C with a polymeric crystal structure, [Pr（DMBZ）3]n. FT-IR theoretical spectrum and time-dependent density functional theory（TD-DFT） were calculated from TGA-DSC and crystalline system data. The experimental and theoretical FT-IR spectra present a high correlation degree when the main stretching bands are compared, while the energy transfer（HOMO - LUMO） in their neighborhoods suggests the main contributions of the light-emitting states.
