Organic Reserves in ropical Grasses under Grazing

Inadequate management in recent times has been considered the main factor contributing to pasture degradation. A major reason for this is related to gross errors of grazing management as a consequence of the lack of knowledge of ecophysiological limits of forage. This review aimed to approach the importance of organic reserves for grasses under grazing. Therefore, the predominant effect of animal grazing is the reduction of leaf area which impacts on carbohydrate and nitrogen reserves and consequently the growth of tillers, leaves and roots. Grass growth after defoliation is related to organic reserves and rate of photosynthesis. The latter is affected by the level of canopy light interception of and by the reminiscent leaf area index. When grazing management is carried out with respect to the physiological limits of grass growth, the rate of dry matter accumulation will be quick and constant. In this aspect, grazing management consists of seeking an efficient balance between plant growth and consumption which will reflect on animal productivity. Therefore, a balance point among frequency and intensity of defoliation must be found to achieve greater animal production concerning the ecophysiological limits of the forage plants. So the challenge will be to find a balance between frequency and intensity of grazing to achieve greater production of animals respecting the eco-physiological limits of forage plants for each forage grass individually.

SHRIMP U-Pb and U-Pb Laser Ablation Geochronological on Zircons from Monte Santo Alkaline Intrusive Suite, Westhern Araguaia Belt, Tocantins state, Brazil

The Monte Santo Alkaline Intrusive Suite (MSAIS) is an association syenite foid, nepheline syenite and syenite, which are intruded in metapelites of the Rio do Coco meta-volcanic-sedimentary Sequence, presenting abundant pegmathoid veins cutting all of them. The ages obtained by Shrimp (1051 ± 22 Ma, 1048 ± 11 Ma) are very close those younger age obtained by U-Pb laser ablation (1056 ± 21), beeing interpreted as crystallization age. These dating reveal also that MSAIS rocks were affected by common succession of younger events below 550 Ma ago, responsible by the later rocky bodies of varying composition occurring in the region, including the alkaline pegmatites hosted in the nepheline syenite of the MSAIS.

Clinical and Evolutionary Characteristics of Pregnant and Postpartum Women with COVID-19 Admitted to a Hospital in the Central Region of Brazil

Objective: To describe the demographic and evolutionary characteristics of pregnant and postpartum women with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) admitted to a medium-sized hospital in Brazil. Method: This is a descriptive and retrospective study, collected from medical records, from March 2020 to October 2021 in a hospital located in Cuiabá (MT). Results: Pregnant and puerperal women with COVID-19 who needed hospitalization were mixed-race, from the metropolitan area, and carriers of moderate and severe forms of the disease. The primary risk condition found was overweight/obesity, and pre-gestational diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and autoimmune disease were the most prevalent comorbidities in the group. Elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), c-reactive protein (CRP), and D-dimer were relevant laboratory findings in this group of patients. The most frequent maternal outcomes were respiratory failure, invasive ventilatory support, thromboembolic phenomena, sepsis, and preterm labor. Maternal death occurred in 6.4% of pregnant women. Most maternal deaths were of women who lived in the interior of the state, and the minority arrived on adequate ventilatory support. Prematurity and the need for neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were significant complications for neonates. Stillbirth/neonatal mortality occurred in 11.0%. Conclusion: The clinical conditions at hospitalization were associated with worse living conditions and lack of access to health care, resulting in increased chances of severity and worsening outcomes in this group of women and neonates.

The Relationship between Meteorological Variables and Clearness Index for Four Urban/Suburban Areas of Brazilian Cities

This study aimed to examine the relationship between meteorological variables and the clearness index for three sites in Cuiaba city and one site in Chapada dos Guimaraes city, Brazil during 2007. It described the microclimate of each site on the basis of constructive elements and their surroundings, considering sky coverage using a daily clearness index. The results were that micrometeorological values were influenced by the natural elements and construction within the surrounding site, with higher air temperatures in more urbanized areas and sites with high diffuse radiation. When determining the sky coverage, on average, the days were partly cloudy or cloudy due to two reasons：（a） during the wet season, rainfall created cloudy conditions and （b） during the dry season, increases of particulates in the atmosphere as a result of anthropogenic emissions of gases and aerosols in this region of the state resulted in sky conditions classified as partly cloudy and cloudy. Future research should aim to better quantify the measurements taken inside an urban area, considering the topography and vegetation cover. This will improve the models that support urban planning, therefore favoring the thermal comfort of areas already occupied or to be urbanized.

Animal Manure as a Nitrogen Source to Grass

The use of animal manure has been studied increasingly in recent years due to the excess waste in confinements, which generates great amounts of animal excreta;and as a result of the worsening petroleum crisis, the cost of mineral fertilizing products has increased. Thus, studies point out the potential of this waste to improve biotic and abiotic soil condition and nutritional value of forage. Substances ingested by animals that resist the action of gastric enzymes are enriched with large amounts of bacteria, other microorganisms and other substances to form residual feces, the main component of manure, which, together with the wash water from barnyard urine, form the slurry. The volume of living or dead bacteria in the feces represents 20% of total manure and it is from these that a large amount of nitrogen originates as protein. Due to this potentiality, animal manure can be used as an input in agriculture, impacting positively on production and forage productivity, and having a favorable effect on the environment.

The volcanic rocks of the Colíder and Roosevelt formations are extensively exposed in the south-central portion of the Amazonian Craton where effusive and pyroclastic rocks have been *** units,topped by chemical sediments and oceanic facies as rhyolite and andesite lavas,rhyodacite,and porphyritic dacite,with frequent intercalations of pyroclastic and epiclastic ***-rock geochemistry for 55 samples of rhyolitic to andesitic composition suggests the involvement of fertile mantle-derived components with E-MORB to OIB *** analyzed rocks display calc-alkaline to shoshonitic affinity consistent with generation related to an active continental *** whole-rock Sm-Nd isotope data from selected felsic volcanic rocks of the Colíder and Roosevelt formations yield negative initial eNd values between–3 and–9,indicating the predominantly crustal nature of the parental magmas with early Archean to late Paleoproterozoic(ca.2.5–2.0 Ga)depleted mantle model ages.

Climatic Variations and Consumption of Urban Water

This study aims to develop a statistical modelling framework of urban water consumption forecast for the city of Aquidauana, Brazil from year 2005 to 2014, monthly data, using multiple linear regression, cluster analysis, and principal component analysis. These forecasts were based on historical data collected through SANESUL System (Water Systems of South mato grosso). The meteorological data were provided by the Water Resources Monitoring Center of South mato grosso—CEMTEC. The statistical model developed explains 71.5% of the variance with three factors: number of consumers (19.3%), seasonality (37.8%), and climate regression (14.3%). The model was further validated using an independent set of data from January 2005 to November 2014, with an R2 of 86% and error of 1.7%. The results indicated no intervention of climate variables in the phenomenon. This tool, combined with the perception of the potential and limitations of managers of water resources and public policy makers, can be used in the regulation of per capita consumption, and thereby achieve the optimization of available resources and also contribute to the sustainable perspective of water resources.

Ruminal degradability of Guinea grass silage inoculated with Streptoccocus bovis isolated from bovine rumen combined or not with com wheat bran

This experiment aimed to evaluate the ruminal degradability in situ of the dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of Guinea grass silages. The experimental design was completely randomized with six treatments and six repetitions: Guinea grass silage, Guinea grass silage inoculated with 10% wheat bran, Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis JB1;Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis JB1 plus 10% of wheat bran;Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis HC5;Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis HC5 plus 10% of wheat bran. The silages inoculated with Streptococcus bovis and with added wheat bran resulted in higher values of ruminal degradability of DM, 32.76% and 32.17%, and of crude protein 38.28% and 37.89%. For the effective and potential degradability of DM, CP, NDF and ADF the highest values occurred for silages in these silages as well, in all passage rates. There is a similarity between the responses of Streptococcus bovis JB1 and the HC5, and the wheat bran enhanced the effectiveness of the microbial additive.

Phytometric and Productive Characteristics of Safflower Submitted to Phosphate Fertilization in the Oxisol of the Brazilian Cerrado

The safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), in particular, has been soaring in significance as an alternative for oil and biodiesel production. In this context, the goal of this study was to assess the influence exerted by phosphate fertilization on the phytometric and productive characteristics of the safflower raised on the Oxisol of the Cerrado. The experiment was performed in a greenhouse, using pots of 3 dm-3?in volume. Adopting the completely randomized design, five doses of phosphorus (P2O5: 0, 90, 180, 360 and 540 mg·dm-3) and six replicates were included. The following variables were estimated, viz., number of leaves, plant height, and stem diameter, besides chlorophyll index (SPAD index), number of chapters and shoot dry matter. Barring the shoot dry matter and number of chapters, all the other variables were evaluated on days 30 and 45 after the plants were transplanted. Data were submitted to analysis of variance at 1%, 5% and 10% probabilities, and regression analysis, at 1% and 5% probabilities, respectively. All the variables revealed significant differences and adjustments to the linear regression model (P < 0.1), excepting the SPAD index on day 30 after the plant emergence which was adjusted to the quadratic regression model. The highest findings of 24.47 for leaf number, 34.97 cm for plant height, 3.76 mm for stem diameter, 64.76 for chlorophyll index, 5 units for the number of chapters and 3.45 g for dry shoot mass were recorded in response to the highest phosphorus dose in the experimental range (P2O5: 540 mg·dm-3). Phosphate fertilization was observed to affect the phytometric characteristics and boost the development of the safflower plants cultivated in the Cerrado Oxisol, substantiating that safflower could be a viable cash crop that can be established in the Brazilian Cerrado.
