Immediate and late effects of chronic stress in the testes of prepubertal and adult rats

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic stress on the testes of prepubertal and adult rats and to evaluate whether any alterations could be reversed when stress induction is ended. Seventy-six male rats were assigned to eight groups depending on the type of treatment （control or stressed）, the age at which stress was initiated （prepubertal or adult）, and the time of evaluation （immediate or late）. Stress stimuli were applied for 6 weeks. Stressed prepubertal and adult rats evaluated immediately after the last stress stimulus were included in SP-I and SA-I groups, respectively. The late prepubertal （SP-L） and adult （SA-L） groups of stressed rats were evaluated 6 weeks after the last stress stimulus. Age-matched rats were used as controls （CP-I, CA-I, CP-L, and CA-L groups）. Application of stress stimuli to rats in the SP-I group resulted in body weight and seminiferous tubule diameter reduction. The rats in the SA-I group also showed several functional （testosterone level and sperm parameter） and morphological （testicular weight and seminiferous tubule diameter） reductions. The rats in the SP-L group showed increased body weight and intertubular compartment volumetric and absolute densities and reduced tubular compartment volumetric density. The rats in the SA-L group presented only reduced sperm viability. Stress stimuli promoted changes in the rats in all the study groups. The testes of the adult rats were the most affected by chronic stress. However, the stressed adult rats recovered well from the testicular alterations.

Hydrodynamics of the interceptor on a 2-D flat plate by CFD and experiments

Nowadays, the use of interceptor by both partial and total dynamic lift crafts is quite common. In this article, a lot of evidence is given regarding the effectiveness of interceptor. The interceptor, when placed at the stern region, changes the pressure distribution around the craft. Its presence affects drag force, lifting force and the position of pressure＇s center leading to a new trim. This study focuses on hydrodynamic effects of interceptors on a 2-D fiat plate based on both computational fluid dynamic （CFD） and experimental approaches. The Reynolds average Navier-Stokes （RANS） equations are used to model the flow around a fixed flat plate with an interceptor at different heights and attack angles. Based on finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm which uses static structures, this model can be analyzed and the RANS results can be compared with the experimental data obtained in the current channel of the laboratory of waves and current of COPPE/UFRJ （LOC in Portuguese acronym）. According to the results, the increase of pressure at the end of the flat plate was proportional to the interceptor height. In addition, the existence of interceptors can significantly increase the lift force coefficient at high angles of attack also proportional to the interceptor height. The presence of interceptor at the end of the fiat plate increased both the lift coefficient and the drag coefficient but hydrodynamic drag did not grow as fast as the lift coefficient did. The lift coefficient increased much more. Furthermore, the results showed that the interceptor effectiveness is proportional to the boundary layer thickness at the end of the fiat plate. As the interceptor was inside the boundary layer alterations of flow speed led to changes in boundary layer thickness, directly affecting interceptor＇s efficiency. Optimum choice of interceptor height had a great effect on its efficiency, and in choosing it the flow speed and length of the boat must be taken into consideration.

Coping Action Oriented to Early Stimulation of Children with Congenital Zika Virus Infection in rio de janeiro state

New health care demands directed at children with chronic conditions have been demanded mainly after the Zika virus epidemic. Given this, the Brazilian states have produced plans to cope with this congenital infection. In the state of rio de janeiro, the elaborated plan had as one of its actions a training proposal for physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists, focusing on early stimulation and focused on the health care network, especially primary care and specialized rehabilitation centers. Thus the purpose of this article is to describe the impact of a response strategy to Zika virus congenital infection, based on the multi-professional training proposal in earlier stimulation in the public health attention network of rio de janeiro state. descriptive study, observational from the earlier stimulation training course to the public health attention network of rio de janeiro state as a coping action to the health care of children with Zika virus congenital infection. At the time of writing, partial results are available after 11 classes were performed. Based on the analysis of the evaluation form of the 11 courses taught by professionals of a referral hospital in rio de janeiro and student form, using the Excel program, 299 health network professionals were qualified, from 56 different municipalities of RJ, mostly females (n = 259;86.82%). 175 physiotherapists (59%), 88 speech therapists (29%), 32 occupational therapists (11%) and 4 academics or other professional backgrounds (1%). The articulation between the different levels of public assistance, specifically: primary, secondary and tertiary, in this context assumes a fundamental action for good practices being undertaken considering the population’s health demands. Stem cell therapies in cardiac diseases: Current status and future possibilities

Cardiovascular diseases represent the world’s leading cause of death. In thisheterogeneous group of diseases, ischemic cardiomyopathies are the mostdevastating and prevalent, estimated to cause 17.9 million deaths per *** all biomedical efforts, there are no effective treatments that can replacethe myocytes lost during an ischemic event or progression of the disease to heartfailure. In this context, cell therapy is an emerging therapeutic alternative to treatcardiovascular diseases by cell administration, aimed at cardiac regeneration andrepair. In this review, we will cover more than 30 years of cell therapy in cardiology,presenting the main milestones and drawbacks in the field and signalingfuture challenges and perspectives. The outcomes of cardiac cell therapies arediscussed in three distinct aspects: The search for remuscularization byreplacement of lost cells by exogenous adult cells, the endogenous stem cell era,which pursued the isolation of a progenitor with the ability to induce heart repair,and the utilization of pluripotent stem cells as a rich and reliable source ofcardiomyocytes. Acellular therapies using cell derivatives, such as microvesiclesand exosomes, are presented as a promising cell-free therapeutic alternative.
