Efforts are underway to rehabilitate the irrigation districts,such as in the rio Grande Basin in *** distribution network models are needed to help prioritize and analyze various rehabilitation options,as well as to scientifically quantify irrigation water demands,usages,and losses,and to help manage gate ***,commercially available software packages were limited in applications due to their high cost and operational *** study aims to develop a modeling tool for modeling the water flow profile in irrigation distribution *** goal of developing the modeling tool was to make the modeling process simple,fast,reliable and *** the basis of methodological study,the modeling tool has been developed for branching canal networks with the assumption of steady gradually varied *** flow profile calculation of the tool was verified from a single channel with 1%root mean squared error compared to the benchmark calculation and a branching network with 5%to 12%relative errors compared to check point measurement along the *** developed modeling tool will be able to play an important role in water quantification for planning,analysis and development for modernization of irrigation systems.

Objective of this study was to evaluate the ingestive behavior,feed efficiency,and nutritional and physiological parameters of sheep that were fed diets based on byproducts from the processing of *** experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with a 4×2 factorial arrangement with four levels of inclusion(6%,11%,16%,and 21%of cashew byproduct)and two forms of processing—with chemical treatment(CT)and without chemical treatment(NCT).The interaction levels of inclusion of the byproduct of cashew versus chemical treatments was not(P>0.05)for the dry matter intake,consumption of organic *** effect was observed(P>0.05)for the intake of dry matter in function of the type of chemical treatment used in the byproduct of *** was no effect of interaction(Pde protein(P>0.05).The inclusion of the byproduct of cashew did not influence the behavioral parameters,intake and digestibility of the diets of sheep,being recommended to use up to the level of 21%.

This study investigated the action of proteolytic enzymes in the production of goat viscera hydrolysates,and their flavoring *** study focus the production of flavor precursor molecules and the formation of volatile compounds resulting from four hydrolysis treatments:HA-Alcalase®,HF-Flavourzyme®,HN-Neutrase®,and HFN-Flavourzyme® and Neutrase®.The highest degree of hydrolysis (26.74%),number (23 volatiles) and concentration of volatile compounds (274.0 μg/L) were obtained with the action of *** main classes of volatile compounds identified in hydrolysates included acids,aldehydes,pyrazines,terpenes and Streacker *** acids,sugars and fatty acids were identified with higher concentrations in HF and HFN hydrolysates due to the low participation of these precursors in the formation of volatile ***,the use of Alcalase in the proteolysis of goat viscera stood out compared to other enzymes,providing impacting aroma compounds,such as pyrazines,for meat flavor.

Promoting integrative medicine by computerization of traditional Chinese medicine for scientific research and clinical practice: The SuiteTCM Project

Ionospheric scintillations can degrade the performance of GNSS receivers by causing fading in the amplitude and phase of transi-ionospheric GNSS signals. Considering the current solar maximum, a research project was established between the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics （IBGE）, the university of the state of rio de janeiro, and the Position, Location and Navigation （PLAN） Group at the department of Geomatics Engineering, university of Calgary （UofC）, to investigate the effects of equatorial ionospheric scintillation on GNSS signal tracking performance and measurement quality with the latest receiver technology. The multi-constellation multi-frequency GNSS Software Navigation Receiver （GSNRx ） developed by the UofC PLAN Group was used in this project due to its multi-constellation multi-frequency processing capability and its flexibility to adopt the latest receiver technology to track GNSS signals under strong equatorial scintillation.A so-called shared-channel architecture, which supports the inter-frequency and inter-satellite code/carrier aiding, has been implemented in GSNRx . Based on the data collected during this project, GSNRx produced no actual cycle slips in the processed datasets and only up to 4% of L2 carrier phase observations missing, indicating that this shared-channel architecture is well resistant to equatorial ionospheric scintillation, whereas for the reference commercial hardware receiver 13% of L2 carrier phase observations missing under strong scintillation. In the position domain, computing Precise Point Positioning solutions using L1 code observations gave very similar results for the software and hardware receivers, with the ionosphere being responsible for degrading coordinate accuracies up to a factor of 12.

BACKGROUND： Chinese and contemporary Western medical practices evolved on different cultures and historical contexts and, therefore, their medical knowledge represents this cultural divergence. Computerization of traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） is being used to promote the integrative medicine to manage, process and integrate the knowledge related to TCM anatomy, physiology, semiology, pathophysiology, and therapy. METHODS： We proposed the development of the SuiteTCM software, a collection of integrated computational models mainly derived from epidemiology and statistical sciences for computerization of Chinese medicine scientific research and clinical practice in all levels of prevention. The software includes components for data management （DataTCM）, simulation of cases （SimTCM）, analyses and validation of datasets （SciTCM）, clinical examination and pattern differentiation （DiagTCM, TongueTCM, and PulseTCM）, intervention selection （AcuTCM, HerbsTCM, and DietTCM）, management of medical records （ProntTCM）, epidemiologic investigation of sampled data （ResearchTCM）, and medical education, training, and assessment （StudentTCM）. DISCUSSION： The SuiteTCM project is expected to contribute to the ongoing development of integrative medicine and the applicability of TCM in worldwide scientific research and health care. The SuiteTCM 1.0 runs on Windows XP or later and is freely available for download as an executable application.

In the period 2003-2011, lightning over-voltages accounted for about 47% of the total number of distribution transformer failures observed in the service area ofAES Sul, a power company that operates in the state of rio Grande doSul, in South Brazil. This paper presents the results of an investigation on the influence of the distance between transformer and MV arresters on the surges at the transformer windings caused by direct strikes to the MV network. The analysis, performed through simulations using the Alternative Transients Program, shows that in general higher voltages are produced by subsequent strokes. Although in relation to the primary side the surges transferred to the secondary are much less affected by the distance between transformers and primary arresters, such distance should always be kept as short as possible in order to reduce the probability of occurrence of transformer failures due to over-voltages at the MV bushings.

Postharvest Losses in the Wheat Logistics Chain： A Brazilian Case Study

This paper highlighted the losses occurring along the wheat supply chain in rio Grande do Sul （RS）, Brazil, which accounts for almost half of the domestic wheat production. Based on a field research, a questionnaire was applied to representative agents in the market. Then the wheat supply chain in the state of RS was characterized and loss rates in each stage of that chain were quantified. Typically, losses during transportation in the domestic market account for about 11.8% of the total amount of wheat grain that leaves the farms. Losses during harvest and storage in cooperatives, which account for 93.2% of total losses, stand out in this context. Transportation operations account for 6.8% of total losses in the analyzed flow. Based on the results obtained in this study, strategies are suggested to reduce food losses in different links of the logistics chain, such as to evidence and quantify the wheat losses, to manage losses and set reduction targets and to give attention to transportation service levels.

It has been nearly a century since the early description of microglia by rio-Hortega;since then many more biological and pathological features of microglia have been ***,microglia are generally considered to be beneficial to homeostasis at the resting state through their abilities to survey the environment and phagocytose ***,when activated microglia assume diverse phenotypes ranging from fully inflamed,which involves the release of many pro-inflammatory cytokines,to alternatively activated,releasing antiinflammatory cytokines or neurotrophins,the consequences to neurons can range from detrimental to *** to the different experimental sets and conditions,contradictory results have been obtained regarding the controversial question of whether microglia are“good”or“bad.”While it is well understood that the dual roles of activated microglia depend on specific situations,the underlying mechanisms have remained largely unclear,and the interpretation of certain findings related to diverse microglial phenotypes continues to be *** this review we discuss the functions of microglia in neuronal survival and neurogenesis,the crosstalk between microglia and surrounding cells,and the potential factors that could influence the eventual manifestation of microglia.
