As an increasingly used alternative to perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA),hexafluoropropylene oxide trimer acid(HFPO-TA)has been widely detected in global water ***,little is known regarding its toxic effects on cardiovascular ***,zebrafish embryos were treated with egg water containing 0,60,120,or 240 mg/L *** showed that HFPO-TA treatment led to a significant reduction in both larval survival percentage and heart ***,HFPO-TA exposure caused severe pericardial edema and elongation of the sinus venous to bulbus arteriosus distance(SV-BA)in Tg(myl7:GFP)transgenic larvae,disrupting the expression of genes involved in heart development and thus causing abnormal heart *** sprouting angiogenesis was observed in the 120 and 240 mg/L exposed Tg(fli:GFP)transgenic ***-TA treatment also impacted the mRNA levels of genes involved in the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)pathway and embryonic vascular ***-TA exposure significantly decreased erythrocyte number in Tg(gata1:DsRed)transgenic embryos and influenced gene expression associated with the heme metabolism ***-TA also induced oxidative stress and altered the transcriptional levels of genes related to cell cycle and apoptosis,inhibiting cell proliferation while promoting ***,HFPO-TA exposure may induce abnormal development of the cardiovascular and hematopoietic systems in zebrafish embryos,suggesting it may not be a suitable or safe alternative for PFOA.

Future climate change decreases multi-pathway but increases respiratory human health risks of PAHs across China

Future climate change will affect the environmental fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants(HOCs)and associated human health risks,yet the extent of these effects remains ***,we couple a high-resolution environmental multimedia model with a bioaccumulation model to study the multimedia distribution of 16 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),a group of HOCs,and assess future PAH-related human health risks under varying climate change scenarios over China at a continental *** removing the effects of PAH emission changes,we find that the total PAH concentrations would decrease in the air,freshwater,sediment,soil,and organisms,while the high-molecular-weight PAH would increase in the air with climate warming from 1.5°C to 4°***,the multi-pathway exposure human health risks predominately influenced by dietary ingestion are expected to decrease by 1.7%–20.5%,while the respiratory risks are projected to rise by 0.2%–5.8%in the ***,the persistently high multi-pathway human health risks underscore the need for reducing future PAH emissions by 69%compared with 2009 levels in *** study demonstrates the urgency of limiting PAH emissions under future climate change for public health and highlights the importance of including the contribution of dietary ingestion in human health risk assessment.

Cotton flooding and drought analysis regarding growth stages in Hubei,China,using a daily agrometeorological index

Cotton yield is restricted worldwide by flooding and drought that occur across various growth *** this study,cotton flooding and drought in Hubei(a major cotton-production province in China)from 1961 to 2019 were analyzed regarding growth stages through a daily index named the standardized antecedent precipitation evapotranspiration index(SAPEI).In addition,the impacts of flooding and drought on cotton climatic yield were quantified using multiple regression *** results showed that the temporal trends of cotton flooding and drought intensities were generally smooth,except for an obvious downward trend for cotton drought intensity at the flowering and boll-forming ***,cotton drought intensity varied more drastically than that of flooding over the ***-flooding proneness was much greater than cotton-drought proneness at all growth stages,and the most flooding-prone and drought-prone periods were identified as the flowering and boll-forming stage and the budding stage,*** terms of spatial distribution,northeastern Hubei and southwestern Hubei were most prone to flooding and drought,*** SAPEI-based regression model(R2=0.490,pkey issue for cotton field water management in Hubei.
