Retinal ganglion cell complex changes using spectral domain optical coherence tomography in diabetic patients without retinopathy

AIM：To assess the ganglion cell complex（GCC）thickness in diabetic eyes without retinopathy. METHODS：Two groups included 45 diabetic eyes without retinopathy and 21 non diabetic eyes. All subjects underwent full medical and ophthalmological history,full ophthalmological examination,measuring GCC thickness and central foveal thickness（CFT）using the RTVue~？ spectral domainoptical coherence tomography（SD-OCT）,and HbA1C ***：GCC focal loss volume（FLV%）was significantly more in diabetic eyes（22.2% below normal）than normal eyes（P=0.024）. No statistically significant difference was found between the diabetic group and the control group regarding GCC global loss volume（GLV%）（P=0.160）. CFT was positively correlated to the average,superior and inferior GCC（P=0.001,0.000 and 0.001 respectively）and negatively correlated to GLV% and FLV%（P=0.002 and0.031 respectively）in diabetic eyes. C/D ratio in diabetic eyes was negatively correlated to average,superior and inferior GCC（P=0.015,0.007 and 0.017 respectively）. The FLV% was negatively correlated to the refraction and level of Hb A1c（P=0.019 and 0.013 respectively）and positively correlated to the best corrected visual acuity（BCVA）in log MAR in diabetic group（P=0.004）.CONCLUSION：Significant GCC thinning in diabetes predates retinal vasculopathy,which is mainly focal rather than diffuse. It has no preference to either the superior or inferior halves of the macula. Increase of myopic error is significantly accompanied with increased focal GCC loss. GCC loss is accompanied with increased C/D ratio in diabetic eyes.

Pollution of water resources with pesticide compounds has raised serious environmental problems,and for photocatalytic degradation of these pollutants,thin film photocatalysts are preferred to colloidal ones due to the separation problem of colloidal *** this work,nanostructured TiO_2 and N-doped TiO_2 thin films with high transparency were deposited on glass and quartz substrates through sonochemical–chemical vapor deposition(CVD)*** films prepared on glass and quartz substrates had nanocubic and nanospherical morphology,*** presence of N atoms in the structure of TiO_2 resulted in a decrease in the band gap energy of TiO_2 and also in the reduction of photogenerated electron–hole recombination ***,the presence of N atoms induced the formation of Ti^(3+)species which can act as hole trapping *** prepared thin films were also used for the visible light photocatalytic degradation of paraoxon *** to these results among the prepared thin films,the N-doped TiO_2 thin films have higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO_2 thin ***,in comparison with the thin films deposited on quartz substrate,the films on glass substrate have higher photocatalytic performance,which can be related to the special nanocubic morphology of these samples.

Magnetic and Heat Resistant Poly(imide-ether) Nanocomposites Derived from Methyl Rich 9H-xanthene: Synthesis and Characterization

In this study a new series of magnetic and heat resistant nanocomposites were prepared based on a highly soluble poly（imideether）（PIE） reinforced with two different types of magnetic nanoparticles via a solution intercalation technique. New PIE with good solubility and desired molar mass containing bulky xanthene rings and amide groups in the side chains was synthesized via thermal cyclization of the poly（amic acid） precursor, obtained from the reaction of a new diamine derived from 9H-xanthene and 4,4＇- oxydiphthalic dianhydride （ODPA）. Improved solubility was attributed to the presence of xanthene group and flexible ether linkage in the polyimide backbones that reduce the chain-chain interaction and enhance solubility by penetrating solvent molecules into the polyimide chains. Fe3O4 nanoparticles （MNPs） which synthesized from chemical co-precipitation route were coated with silica （SiO2）, sequentially with （3-aminopropyl）triethoxysilane and poly-melamine-terephthaldehyde （MNPs-PMT）, and then separately dispersed in the poly（amic acid） solutions and thermally imidized to form PIE/Fe3O4 and PIE/MNPs-PMT nanocomposites. The nanostructures and properties of the resultant materials were investigated using FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, field emission scanning electron microscopy （FE-SEM）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, vibrating sample magnetometer （VSM）, thermal gravimetric analysis （TGA） and differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）. The properties of the nanocomposites were strongly related to the dispersion and interaction between the nanoparticles and PIE matrix. The thermogravimetric analysis （TGA） results showed that the addition of MNPs-PMT nanoparticles resulted in a substantial increase in the thermal stability of the corresponding PIEN. The temperature at 10% weight loss （T10） was increased from 416℃to 428℃ for PIEN containing 3 wt% MNPs-PMT as compared to neat PIE, as well the char yield enhanced. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is considered the gold standard for treating benign and malignant biliary ***,its use in complex biliary obstructions is *** the past decades,therapeutic endosonography(EUS)and emerging technologies such as lumen-apposing metal stents have enabled endoscopic treatment of conditions previously requiring nonendoscopic or surgical *** show that EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy is a reliable alternative to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in the treatment of distal malignant biliary obstructions and can be considered a primary drainage modality in centers with adequate *** malignant hilar biliary obstructions,draining at least 50%of viable liver tissue often requires combining different *** treatment strategy in these patients should be individualized,depending on the Bismuth classification,patient physical status,and intended systemic *** to the lack of evidence,general recommendations cannot be made for EUS-guided hepaticoduodenostomy or combined procedures with transhepatic bridging *** novel techniques should be limited to selected palliative cases where conventional methods have failed and conducted within clinical trials to generate evidence before broader application.
