Admission white blood cell count predicts short-term clinical outcomes in patients with uncomplicated Stanford type B acute aortic dissection

Objectives Inflammation has been shown to be related with acute aortic dissection （AAD）. The present study aimed to evaluate the association of white blood cell counts （WI3Cc） on admission with both in-hospital and long-term all-cause mortality in patients with uncom- plicated Stanford type B AAD. Methods From 2008 to 2010, a total of 377 consecutive patients with uncomplicated type B AAD were enrolled and then followed up. Clinical data and WBCc on admission were collected. The primary end points were in-hospital death and long-term all-cause death. Results The in-hospital death rate was 4.2%, and the long-term all-cause mortality rate was 6.9% during a median follow-up of 18.9 months. WBCc on admission was identified as a risk factor for in-hospital death by univariate Cox regression analysis as both a continuous variable and a categorical variable using a cut off of 11.0 × 109 cell/L （all P 〈 0.05）. After adjusting for age, sex and other risk factors, elevated admission WBCc was still a significant predictor for in-hospital death as both a continuous variable [hazard ratio （HR）： 1.052, 95% CI： 1.024-1.336, P = 0.002] and a categorical variable using a cut off of 11.0 × 109 cell/L （HR： 2.056, 95% CI： 1.673-5.253, P = 0.034）. No relationship was observed between WBCc on admission and long-term all-cause death. Conclusions Our results indicate that elevated WBCc upon admission might be used as a predictor for increased risk of in-hospital death in uncomplicated type B AAD. There might be no predictive value of WBCc for the long-term survival of type B AAD.

Sequential extraction and compositional analysis of oil-bearing fluid inclusions in reservoir rocks from Kuche Depression, Tarim Basin

The free oils, adsorbed oils and oil-bearing fluid inclusions have been extracted separately and analyzed by GC and GC-MS in reservoir rock samples collected from the Kuche Depression. The results demonstrate that the molecular compositions of oil-bearing fluid inclusions are significantly different from those of the free oils (the current oils). Compared with the current oil, the oil-bearing fluid inclusions are characterized by relatively high values of parameters Pr/nC17 and Ph/nC18, low values of Pr/Ph, hopanes/steranes, C30-diahopane/C30-hopane and Ts/Tm, low content of C29Ts terpane and high maturities as indicated by C29 steranes 20S/(20R+20S). In addition, the oil-bearing fluid inclusions correlate very well with the oils in northern and central Tarim Basin, which were derived from Cambrian-Ordovician marine source rocks. The adsorbed oils appear to be an intermediate type between free oils and oil-bearing fluid inclusions. The above analytical data indicate that there are at least two

Growth, structure and upconversion mechanisms of Ba_2ErCl_7 crystal

The methods to grow a novel upconversion crystal Ba2ErCI7 are reported in this note. Ba2ErCI7 material was synthesized with Er2O3, BaCI2-2H2O and NH4CI by using a so-called "direct synthesis method". High quality Ba2ErCI7 single crystals with size up to 4 mm×8 mm×15 mm were grown by using the Czochralski and the Bridgman methods. Intense yellow-green luminescence was detected when the crystal was pumped by an 803 laser diode (LD). Transmittance spectrum was measured by using HITACH U-3500 spectrophotometer at room temperature for the first time, in which one can see that the transmittance is high in the range from 350 to 1 600 nm and the cut-off wavelength of the crystal was 230 nm. The upconversion mechanisms were discussed.

Effects of molybdenum on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti(C,N)-based cermets with low Ni

The effects of Mo on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti（C,N）-based cermets with low Ni have been studied systematically. Different contents of Mo （4-12 wt.%） were added into Tl（C,N）-based cermets. Specimens were fabricated by conventional powder metallurgy and vacuum sintered at temperatures of 1440, 1450, and 1460℃ individually. The microstructure and fracture morphology were investigated by scanning electron microscope, and the mechanical properties such as transverse strength and hardness were measured. The results show that the microstructure is uniform and the thickness of rim phase is moderate when the content of Mo is 8 wt.%; the mechanical properties of the specimens sintered at 1450℃ are better than those sintered at 1440 and 1460℃. The integrated properties of transverse strength and hardness are the best when the content of Mo is 8 wt.% and the sintering temperature is 1450℃.

Spectroscopic and Spectroelectrochemical Studies of Interaction of Nile Blue with DNA

Nile Blue can strongly bind to DNA and its affinity for DNA has beeninvestigated by spectroscopy and spectroelectrochemistry. At low DNA concentrations, Nile Blue canbind to DNA (per nucleotide phosphate) to form a 1:1 association complex with the binding constantof 4.7 * 10~4 L/mol and the major binding model of Nile Blue to DNA is 'electrostatic binding'.However, the major binding model changes into 'intercalative binding' at high DNA concentrations. Inorder to confirm which part of Nile Blue intercalating into DNA, the inclusion action ofβ-cyclodextrin (β-CD) has been used to study the interaction. Nile Blue can be included into thehydrophobic cavity of β-CD to form an inclusion complex with a stability constant of 1.9 * 10~3L/mol. The experimental results indicate that the naphthalene ring part of Nile Blue is includedinto β-CD's hydrophobic cavity and the inclusion complex decomposes at high DNA concentrations. Itmay be deduced reasonably that the naphthalene ring part of Nile Blue molecule intercalates into DNAhelix Strand.

Amyloid-βpeptide(Aβ)aggregates,particularly Aβoligomers,are established biomarker and toxic species in Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Early detection and disaggregation of Aβaggregates are of great importance for the treatment of AD due to the unavailability of therapy at the advanced stages of the disease.A multitalented agent,2-{2-[(1 H-benzoimidazol-2-yl)methoxy]phenyl}benzothiazole(BPB),is designed by merging twoβ-sheet targeting groups into one molecule to detect and inhibit the Aβ*** can quantitatively measure theβ-sheet level of soluble Aβoligomers and specifically distinguish the aggregates of Aβ40 and Aβ42 by unique luminescence *** tests demonstrate that BPB can efficiently penetrate the blood brain barrier and precisely stain Aβplaques in the brain;more importantly,it can differentiate the blood of APP transgenic mice from that of normal *** addition to the diagnostic potential,BPB also suppresses the generation of ROS,protects the neurons from neurotoxicity,and disaggregates the Aβaggregates in brain homogenates of APP transgenic mice induced by metal ions or *** view of its detective ability toward Aβoligomers and inhibition to Aβ-related neurotoxicity,BPB may be developed into a sensitive probe for screening blood samples in the early diagnosis of AD as well as an effective inhibitor for diminishing Aβaggregates in the treatment of the disease.

Effects of process parameters on the depth-to-width ratio of flux-cored wire underwater wet welding

The effects of process parameters on the depth-to-width ratio （D/W） of flux-cored wire underwater wet welding with a certain type of homemade .flux-cored wire are studied. It is found that the welding .speed, wire feeding speed and torch oscillating amplitude hare significant effects on the dopth-to-width ratio （D/W） of welds. The D/W ratio of welds increases significantly with the increase of welding speed without the oscillating of welding torch. It increased （from 0. 14 to 0. 26 ） with the increase of wire feeding speed while the torch oscillating. And it decreased linearly with the increase of torch oscillating amplitude. However, the influelwe of oscillating speed, wire extension and welding voltage on the D/W ratio of welds was not obvious.

Turbidite sandstones have become increasingly significant in hydrocarbon *** cementation occur commonly in turbidite reservoirs developing within the Paleocene lacustrine basins,Northeastern *** study utilizes core data,thin section data and production data to investigate the interaction between the carbonate cementation and hydrocarbon charge within turbidite reservoirs in the Niuzhuang Sub-sag of the Dongying Sag,Bohai Bay Basin,East *** results reveal that the carbonate cementation is mainly developed at the top and bottom of the turbidite sandbodies,and even forms carbonate cement *** stages of hydrocarbon accumulation are identified based on fluid inclusion analysis:stage I(27.5–24.6 Ma),stage II(14.0–5.0 Ma),and stage III(5.0–0 Ma).The interaction between the carbonate cementation and hydrocarbon charge has significant controls on the formation of a turbidite *** temporal relations and intensity relations between the two factors should be considered ***,hydrocarbon charge during the early stage can inhibit the carbonate cementation,favoring the hydrocarbon accumulation in turbidite *** deep-lacustrine turbidite sandbodies surrounded by source rocks with abnormal high pressure,are also favorable for hydrocarbon *** results suggest that some deeply buried turbidite sandbodies with similar geological settings have high potential for hydrocarbon exploration.

Discovering the high-temperature object through video monitor

An infrared integration method to discover the object of high temperature in the video image is put forward by analyzing not only the radiation spectrum distribution of the scenery and target, but also the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) spectral response theoretically. LCLV (Liquid Crystal Light Valve) is used with CCD ingeniously, so that the LCLV-CCD can be used for both normal monitoring and discovering the high temperature object in the image.
