Cement channel linings in an urban stream in st. Louis, Missouri increase event water contributions during flooding, shorten transport times, and magnify geochemical variability on both short and seasonal timescales due to disruption of hyporheic flowpaths. Detailed analyses of water isotopes, major and trace elements, and in situ water quality data for an individual flood event reveal that baseflow contributions rise by 8% only 320 m downstream of the point where this particular channel changes from cement-lined to unlined. However, additional hydrograph separations indicate baseflow contributions are variable and can be much higher（average baseflow increase is 16%）. stream electrical conductivity（EC） and solute concentrations in the lined reach were up to 25% lower during peak flow than in the unlined channel, indicating a greater event flow fraction. In contrast, during low flow, stream EC and solute concentrations in the lined reach were up to 30% higher due to the restricted inflow of more dilute groundwater. Over longer timescales, EC, solute concentrations, turbidity, and bacterial loads decrease downstream signifying increasing contributions of dilute baseflow. The decreased connectivity of surface waters and groundwaters along the hyporheic zone in lined channels increases the hydrologic and geochemical variability of urban streams.

In this report, we present a case of a term abdominal pregnancy managed in st Padre Pio Hospital Douala (Cameroon). The 28-year-old G2P1001 woman whom we received to our facility at 15 weeks gestation with an intrauterine pregnancy confirmed by ultrasonography. She returned at 21 weeks with a history of syncope and blood transfusion in another facility. An obstetrical ultrasonography done that day revealed a live fetus located at the upper right side within the peritoneal cavity. She continued with her routine Antenatal visits, and at each visit, an ultrasonography was done, revealing a slowly growing fetus. At 38 weeks, a laparotomy was carried out, and the live male baby weighing 2500 grammes was extracted. The placenta was implanted in the uterus;it was removed with minimal blood loss of approximately 400 mls. The mother was heamodynamically stable post-operatively. The newborn presented with mild cyanosis, an oxygen saturation of 80%, which resolved after 24 hours of oxygen administration. Both mother and baby were discharged from the hospital one week after laparotomy in a stable state. This case illustrates that intra-abdominal pregnancies, though rare and complex, can be managed to term and produce viable fetuses. Practitioners should, therefore, understand the challenges in its management.

Introduction: The amount and timing of neuromuscular activation of upper airway stabilizing muscles, their propensity to fatigue and their mechanical efficiency are pivotal in maintaining UA stability. Since training rats in a skilled reaching condition will induce task-related changes in the associated motor cortex, we aimed to investigate if different tongue training approaches using the fixed-trainingintensity could differently induce signs of neuroplastic changes in the corticomotor pathways, and to detect the time course of such ***: 18 water-restricted adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were trained to lick an isotonic force-sensing disc at targeting forces for water reinforcement with sound feedback. In TTT group, 30-50% of maximal protrusion force(MPF) was used as target window, while the st paradigm used a progressive resistance training program with targeting force set above 50%, 60% and 70% of MPF, progressively. The rats in both groups were trained daily for two month, with the same training intensity(1000 g· s per day) quantified by total tongue muscle work. Corticomotor excitability was assessed by motor evoked potentials(MEPs) in genioglossus muscle evoked by transcortical magnetic stimulation(TMS) at four sessions: at baseline before training, every 10 minutes within 2 hours after the 4, 6 and 8 weeks ***: After 8 weeks, the precision of task performance(percent of peak force inside target window) increased in TTT-treated rats(p=0.04). After 4 weeks in both groups, MEPs latencies of genioglossus evoked by TMS decreased immediately after training and reached the valley 20 minutes after training compared to baseline (3.8±0.3 ms vs. 4.8±0.2 ms;3.9±0.4 ms vs. 4.7±0.1 ms for TTT and st, respectively). This excitatory effect lasted up to 80 minutes in TTT-treated rats, but it rebound above the baseline value after 20 minutes and reached the apex at 80 minutes in st group(5.3±0.4 ms).
