Cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness associations with older adolescent cognitive control

Background:Participation in physical activity supports greater cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF),a correlate of cognitive ***,the relationship between muscular fitness(MF)and cognitive control is less *** present study investigated the differential relationship of CRF and MF with cognitive control in older ***:This cross-sectional study involved students(1517 years old,n=541,43%female)from 20 secondary schools who completed tests of inhibition(modified flanker task),working memory(n-back task),CRF(Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run),and MF(standing long jump and push-up test).Multilevel analyses tested the association between CRF or MF and cognitive outcomes while accounting for the influence of the other fitness variable and relevant demographic ***:CRF predicted response accuracy during incongruent flanker trials,the condition requiring greater *** the working memory task,CRF predicted greater target accuracy and greater d’scores on the 1-back task,requiring lesser amounts of working *** the 2-back task,which requires greater amounts of working memory,CRF also predicted greater target and non-target accuracy and d’***,MF did not predict any cognitive outcomes after adjustment for ***:CRF was selectively related to better performance during task conditions that require greater amounts of inhibition and working *** finding suggests that CRF,but not MF,may benefit cognitive control in older *** selective influence of CRF on older adolescents’cognition highlights the value of aerobic physical activity.

Antibacterial activity of Silicate Bioceramics

Synthesis, Crystal Structural Characterization and Electrochemical Properties of a 1D Tape-like Polymer of Cobalt Adamantanedicarboxylate: [Co_2(adc)_2(py)_4(H_2O)]_n

The new complex, [Co2（adc）2（py）4（H2O）}n 1 （adc = 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylate, py = pyridine）, has been hydrothermally synthesized as polymeric solid, and characterized by X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. Complex 1 crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 18.932（4）, b = 19.779（4）, c = 12.352（3） , β = 112.03（3）o, V = 4288（2） 3, Z = 4, GOF = 0.998, R = 0.0518 and wR = 0.1074. X-ray single-crystal analysis reveals that 1 presents a 3D simple parallel rod-like supramolecular array constructed by 1D tape-like polymeric motif through aromatic π-π stacking interaction. Electrochemical investigation shows that 1 exhibits appreciable electrocatalytic activity for the reduction reaction of nitrite.

Preparatory training attenuates drastic response of the insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1 at the point of maximal oxygen consumption in handball players

Background:Intensive exercise changes physiological need for glucose and several biochemical pathways responsible for its metabolism *** them are those which involve insulin,insulin-like growth factor(IGF-1),and IGF-binding proteins(IGFBPs).Different types and degrees of exercise,as well as an athlete's fitness,may induce a range of responses regarding concentrations and time needed for the *** idea of the work was to find out whether and how insulin/IGF axis responds to additional physical activity in the already trained subjects and if so,is the adaptation potentially beneficial from the aspect of metabolic ***:The effect of 4-week intensive training on campus(preparatory training) on the levels of insulin,IGF-1,and IGFBPs during maximal progressive exercise test(MPET) on a treadmill was compared to the results obtained during MPET conducted after a regular training season of a female elite handball team(n = 17,age:17 ± 1 years,height:171 ± 8 cm,weight:65 ± 8 kg,body mass index:22 ± 1 kg/m^2 at the beginning of the study;there were no significant changes at the end).Serum samples were obtained from players immediately before the test(basal),at the end of the test after reaching the point of maximal oxygen consumption(VO_(2max)),and after ***:The concentration of insulin decreased at VO_(2max),but remained higher in players after preparatory training(12.2 ± 2.5 m U/L vs.8.9 ± 4.4 m U/L,p = 0.049).The level of IGFBP-1 decreased in players at VO_(2max) in either case of training,but it remained much higher in tests performed after the preparatory regime than before(p = 0.029).Concentrations of IGF-1,IGFBP-2,-3,and-4 did not change ***:The inverse relation between insulin and IGFBP-1 was lost during MPET,as these 2 molecules changed in the same *** results obtained suggest less severe stress-induced depression of insulin and IGFBP-1 after preparatory *** another metabolic mechanism

Situational interest impacts college students’physical activity in a design-based bike exergame

Trunk Kinematics and Centre of Pressure Displacement during Lateral Lifting and Lowering

Lateral bending of the trunk has been specifically identified as a high risk factor for lower back disorders. However, few studies have presented in vivo kinematic data of the trunk while performing functional lateral bending tasks. Five healthy male subjects performed lateral lifting and lowering tasks under loading condition ranging from light (2kg) to 100 % of a maximum (ML) at a controlled velocity. Single lowering tasks were also performed at 125% and 150% of ML. Video based movement analysis was used to determine kinematics of the trunk, pelvis, shoulders and neck in the frontal plane. Centre of pressure (COP) data was also obtained from a force platform on which the subjects stood when performing the lifting and lowering tasks. Kinematics of the trunk revealed a smooth and relatively large change in angular displacement (between 69°to 55°) toward the unloaded side during the lifting phase. Trunk angular displacement significantly decreased with increasing lifting load. The trunk was additionally divided into four segments representing the lower and upper lumbar regions and the lower and upper thoracic regions. The greatest displacement in these segments took place at the upper lumbar and lower thoracic regions (ranging from 29°to 22°and 23°to 17°, respectively) with the least displacement occurring in the lower lumbar and upper thoracic regions (approx. 6° and 5°, respectively). Both the upper lumbar and lower thoracic segments showed significant decreases in angular displacement with increasing load. During the single lowering trials the trunk rotated toward the loaded side with slightly less magnitude to that recorded during the lowering phase of the heaviest lifting and lowering conditions. Angular displacements of the upper lumbar and lower thoracic segments also decreased with increasing load in single lowering. A cDNA CLONE WITH ANTIONCOGENE activity

A cDNA clone, p14--6, which has an antioncogene activity on the v--Ki--Ras oncogene-transformed malignant cell line DT, was found. This clone was recovered from the revertantR14 cells, which had been isolated by transfections of DT cells with a normal human fibro-blast cDNA library cloned in pcD2, an Okayama-Berg vector. When transfected into DT cells,p14--6 clone gave rise to phenotypical flat reversion in 5--15% of DT transfectant colo-nies. The p14--6--transfected flat cell line, RR, was proven to be a true revertant with signif-icantly reduced malignancy by in ritro and in riro malignancy tests. All other clones recov-ered from R14 cells were unable to cause this reversion. Molecular hybridizations showedthat the p14--6 was inserted into RR genome as tandem repeats, and no structural changewas found in the D--Ki--Ras oncogene in RR genome. These facts suggest that the antioncogeneactivity of the p14--6 clone on the DT cells may be exerted through expression of thecDNA contained in this clone. Possible reasons for the non-reversion of part of DT cells after p14--6 transfection isdiscussed.

Cardiometabolic risk through an integrative classification combining physical activity and sedentary behavior in European adolescents:HELENA study

Purpose: This study aims to compare adolescents' cardiometabolic risk score through an integrative classification of physical activity(PA),which involves the combination of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) and sedentary behavior(SB).Methods: A cross-sectional study derived from the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence Cross-Sectional Study database(2006-2008) was conducted in adolescents(n = 548; boys, 47.3%; 14.7 ± 1.2 years) from 10 European cities. MVPA and SB were objectively measured using accelerometry. Adolescents were divided into 4 categories according to MVPA(meeting or not meeting the international recommendations) and the median of SB time(above or below sex-and age-specific median) as follows: High-SB & Inactive, Low-SB & Inactive,High-SB & Active, and Low-SB & Active. A clustered cardiometabolic risk score was computed using the homeostatic model assessment, systolic blood pressure, triglycerides, total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, sum 4 skinfolds, and cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF).Analyses of covariance were performed to discern differences on cardiometabolic risk scores among PA categories and each health ***: The cardiometabolic risk score was lower in adolescents meeting the MVPA recommendation and with less time spent in SB in comparison to the high-SB & Inactive group(p physically inactive with "active" but not from high-to ***: Being physically active is the most significant and protective outcome in adolescents to reduce cardiometabolic risk. Lower SB does not exhibit a significant and extra beneficial difference.
