Effects of drip irrigation circuit design and lateral line lengths: I—On pressure and friction loss

Laboratory tests were conducted at the Irrigation Devices and Equipment’s Test Laboratory, Agricultural Engineering Research Institute, Agriculture Research Center, Giza, Egypt. The experimental design of laboratory experiments was split in randomized complete block design with three replicates. Laboratory tests carried out on three irrigation lateral lines of 40, 60, 80 m under the following three drip irrigation circuit (DIC) designs;1) one manifold for lateral lines or closed circuits with one manifold of drip irrigation system (CM1DIS);2) closed circuits with two manifolds for lateral lines (CM2DIS), and 3) traditional drip irrigation system (TDIS) as a control. The aims of the work were to study the effect of drip irrigation circuits (DIC) and lateral lines lengths (LLL;where): (LLL1 = 40 m, LLL2 = 60 m, and LLL3 = 80 m) on pressure head (PH) and friction loss (FL). Regarding to LLL and according to PH values, DIC designs could be ranked in the following ascending order: TDIS 1DIS 2DIS. The differences in PH among DIC designs were significant at the 1% level. The depressive effects of LLL on PH could be ranked in the following ascending order: LLL1 2 ≤ LLL3. Differences in PH among LLL treatments were significant at the 1% level except that between LLL2 and LLL3. The effects of interactions among: DIC × LLL on PH were significant at the 1% level with some exceptions. The highest value of PH (9.5 m) and the lowest one (6.05 m) were achieved in the interactions of CM2DIS × LLL1 and TDIS × LLL3, respectively. The shapes of the energy gradient lines were affected by DIC and LLL treatments used through their effect on ?H/H ratio. However, they followed similar trends. According to the FL values, DIC and LLL treatments could be ranked in the following descending orders TDIS > CM1DIS > CM2DIS and LLL1 > LLL2 > LLL3. The contribution of small and large sensory afferents to postural control in patients with peripheral neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy(PN) is a multifarious disorder that is caused by damage to the peripheral nerves. Although the symptoms of PN vary with the etiology, most cases are characterized by impaired tactile and proprioceptive sensation that progresses in a distal to proximal manner. Balance also tends to deteriorate as the disorder becomes more severe, and those afflicted are substantially more likely to fall while walking compared with those who are healthy. Most patients with PN walk more cautiously and with greater stride variability than age-matched controls, but the majority of their falls occur when they must react to a perturbation such as a slippery or uneven surface. The purpose of this study was to first describe the role of somatosensory feedback in the control of posture and then discuss how that relationship is typically affected by the most common types of PN. A comprehensive review of the scientific literature was conducted using MEDLINE, and the relevant information was synthesized. The evidence indicates that the proprioceptive feedback that is conveyed primarily through larger type I afferents is important for postural control. However, the evidence indicates that the tactile feedback communicated through smaller type II afferents is particularly critical to the maintenance of balance. Many forms of PN often lead to chronic tactile desensitization in the soles of the feet and, although the central nervous system seems to adapt to this smaller type II afferent dysfunction by relying on more larger type I afferent reflex loops, the result is still decreased stability. We propose a model that is intended both to help explain the relationship between stability and the smaller type II afferent and the larger type I afferent feedback that may be impaired by PN and to assist in the development of pertinent rehabilitative interventions.

Critical role of OX40 signaling in the TCR-independent phase of human and murine thymic Treg generation

On the Significance of Cryptography as a Service

Cryptography as a service is becoming extremely popular. It eases the way companies deal with securing their information without having to worry about their customer’s information being accessed by someone who should not have access to it. In this overview, we will be taking a closer look at Cryptography as a Service. The ground we will be examining is the effectiveness of it for mobile/wireless and desktop computing. Since we will be looking at something that operates as a service, we will need to first cover the application program interface (API) basics [1] or standard software as a service (SaaS) [2]. Next, what exactly cryptography as a service means for each of the aforementioned platforms. Lastly, other possible solutions and how they compare to CaaS. For the purpose of this review, we will be looking at CaaS in a cloud environment since typical SaaS is used that way. Subsequently most cloud environments utilize a UNIX based operating system or similar solution, which will be the target environment for the purpose of this paper. Popular algorithms that are used in CaaS will be the final part that will be examined on the grounds of how they perform, level of security offered, and usability in CaaS. Upon reading this paper the reader will have a better understanding of how exactly CaaS operates and what it has to offer for mobile, desktop, and wireless users in the present and future.

A dynamic model for exploring water-resource management scenarios in an inland arid area: Shanshan County, Northwestern China

Water scarcity is a challenge in many arid and semi-arid regions; this may lead to a series of environmental problems and could be stressed even further by the effects from climate change. This study focused on the water resource management in Shanshan County, an inland arid region located in northwestern China with a long history of groundwater overexploitation. A model of the supply and demand system in the study area from 2006 to2030, including effects from global climate change,was developed using a system dynamics(SD)modeling tool. This SD model was used to 1) explore the best water-resource management options by testing system responses under various scenarios and2) identify the principal factors affecting the responses, aiming for a balance of the groundwater system and sustainable socio-economic *** causes were identified as primarily responsible for water issues in Shanshan: low water-use efficiency low water reuse, and increase in industrial waterdemand. To address these causes, a combined scenario was designed and simulated, which was able to keep the water deficiency under 5% by 2030. The model provided some insights into the dynamic interrelations that generate system behavior and the key factors in the system that govern water demand and supply. The model as well as the study results may be useful in water resources management in Shanshan and may be applied, with appropriate modifications, to other regions facing similar water management challenges.

INTERNATIONAL ACCESS TO THE CHINESE MEDICAL LITERATURE THROUGH MEDLINE

This article reviews, for authors publishing in the Chinese literature, the characteristics of MEDLINE users, the format of MEDLINE citations and the main retrieval strategies used with the system. References were retrieved and data collected through MEDLINE searches of the database 1988-June 1992. Thirty-six indexed journals from the People's Republic of China (PRC) were analyzed. The items of a MEDLINE citation are described. Titles of Chinese journals are listed in English as well as Chinese in the annual "List of Serials Indexed" of Index Medicus. Articles from journals in the PRC are indexed at the China MEDLARS Center, Beijing, PRC. For the 36 journals analyzed, 12 530 citations appeared in MEDLINE during the search period. Basic search strategies are described. Users doing author searches may have difficulties with common Chinese surnames, especially if only one given name initial is used. Journal searches of specialty journals, as well as address field searches for publications from a particular institution, may be helpful to scientists planning a visit to China. Effective use of MEDLINE has become an opportunity and responsibility for scientists and physicians over the world. Suggestions for preparation of English titles and abstracts to assure optimal information transfer and retrieval efficiency are: think about your audience; do not waste words; include key features in the title; be consistent with names and affiliations; use MeSH terms; include important non-MeSH terms in text; use structured abstracts; and obtain MEDLINE printouts of your own citations.

The nolilinear resonant spectrum of a rotating disk is computed from the resonant *** a resonant spectrum is useful for the disk drive industry to determine the range of operational rotation speed. The resonant wave motions for linear and uonlinear, rotating driks are simulated numerically for a 3.5-inch diameter computer memory disk.

Trends of seasonal forage yield changes of triticale in the southern Great Plains of the United States
