Application of Learning by Design Into the Cultivation of Multiliteracies:A Case Study of College English Teaching Practice at soochow university

Multiliteracies are an indispensable component of language abilities in the modern age of information *** proposed by the New London Group in 1996, multiliteracies refer to the abilities needed to obtain the learning resources that are transmitted through different media and modals, and to apply different modes and means to communicate with others to create *** cultivation of multiliteracies is not only a systematic process of constructing knowledge but also a dynamic cycle of designing learning *** undertaking an international multiliteracies project, the New London Group adopted a mode of learning by design to cultivate *** by design includes three progressive components of available design, designing, and redesigned, with available design referring to the learning resources available, designing being the work to be done to make use of the learning resources obtained, and redesigned meaning the regenerated and transformed learning resources that are to become the new learning resources for available *** it comes to the stage of redesigned, the mode of learning by design enters a new *** since learning by design was adopted, it became the main theoretical framework used to cultivate *** college English teaching subsequently developed at soochow university followed and specified the general principles of learning by design while constructing its own specific mode, trying to integrate available design and designing into a dynamic whole geared toward cultivating multiliteracies(one of the three abilities needed to use English, together with language expression abilities and intercultural communication competences).With regard to available design, efforts were made toward building and expanding various learning resources, facilities, settings, environments, and other learning support systems at soochow *** was done to provide easy and selectable accesses to the Net^+ based m

Cholesterol metabolism: physiological versus pathological aspects in intracerebral hemorrhage

Cholesterol is an important component of plasma membranes and participates in many basic life functions,such as the maintenance of cell membrane stability,the synthesis of steroid hormones,and *** plays a key role in the establishment and maintenance of the central nervous *** brain contains 20%of the whole body’s cholesterol,80%of which is located within myelin.A huge number of processes(e.g.,the sterol regulatory element-binding protein pathway and liver X receptor pathway)participate in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism in the brain via mechanisms that include cholesterol biosynthesis,intracellular transport,and *** brain injuries or diseases involving crosstalk among the processes above can affect normal cholesterol metabolism to induce detrimental ***,we hypothesized that cholesterol-related molecules and pathways can serve as therapeutic targets for central nervous system *** hemorrhage is the most severe hemorrhagic stroke subtype,with high mortality and *** cholesterol levels are associated with the risk of intracerebral ***,secondary pathological changes after intracerebral hemorrhage are associated with cholesterol metabolism dysregulation,such as neuroinflammation,demyelination,and multiple types of programmed cell *** cholesterol accumulation in the brain has been found after intracerebral *** this paper,we review normal cholesterol metabolism in the central nervous system,the mechanisms known to participate in the disturbance of cholesterol metabolism after intracerebral hemorrhage,and the links between cholesterol metabolism and cell *** also review several possible and constructive therapeutic targets identified based on cholesterol metabolism to provide cholesterol-based perspectives and a reference for those interested in the treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage.

Prognostic impact of hypernatremia for septic shock patients in the intensive care unit

BACKGROUND Hypernatremia represents a significant electrolyte imbalance associated with numerous adverse outcomes,particularly in cases of intensive care unit(ICU)-acquired hypernatremia(IAH).Nevertheless,its relevance in patients with septic shock remains *** To identify independent risk factors and their predictive efficacy for IAH to improve outcomes in patients with septic *** In the present retrospective single-center study,a cohort of 157 septic shock patients with concurrent hypernatremia in the ICU at The First Affiliated Hospital of soochow university,between August 1,2018,and May 31,2023,were *** were categorized based on the timing of hypernatremia occurrence into the IAH group(n=62),the non-IAH group(n=41),and the normonatremia group(n=54).RESULTS In the present study,there was a significant association between the high serum sodium concentrations,excessive persistent inflammation,immunosuppression and catabolism syndrome and chronic critical illness,while rapid recovery had an apparent association with ***,multivariable analyses revealed the following independent risk factors for IAH:Total urinary output over the preceding three days[odds ratio(OR)=1.09;95%CI:1.02–1.17;P=0.014],enteral nutrition(EN)sodium content of 500 mg(OR=2.93;95%CI:1.13–7.60;P=0.027),and EN sodium content of 670 mg(OR=6.19;95%CI:1.75–21.98;P=0.005)were positively correlated with the development of ***,the area under the curve for total urinary output over the preceding three days was 0.800(95%CI:0.678–0.922,P=0.001).Furthermore,maximum serum sodium levels,the duration of hypernatremia,and varying sodium correction rates were significantly associated with 28-day in-hospital mortality in septic shock patients(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The present findings illustrate that elevated serum sodium level was significantly associated with a poor prognosis in septic shock patients in the *** is highly recommended that hypernatremia be

BACKGROUND Bone is a major site of metastasis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Recently,nuclear factor kappa-beta ligand(RANKL)inhibitors have garnered attention for their ability to inhibit osteoclast formation and bone resorption,as well as their potential to modulate immune functions and thereby enhance the efficacy of programmed cell death protein 1(PD-1)inhibitor *** SUMMARY We present a case of a patient with NPC who developed sternal stalk metastasis and multiple bone metastases with soft tissue invasion following radical chemoradiotherapy and targeted *** to chemotherapy,the patient experienced severe bone marrow suppression and opted out of further chemotherapy ***,the patient received combination therapy,including RANKL inhibitors(denosumab)alongside PD-1,radiotherapy,and granulocyte-macrophage colonystimulating factor(PRaG)therapy(NCT05435768),and achieved 16 months of progression-free survival and more than 35 months of overall survival,without encountering any grade 2 or higher treatment-related adverse *** Denosumab combined with PRaG therapy could be a new therapeutic approach for the second-line treatment in patients with bone metastases.

Enhanced and tunable circular dichroism in the visible waveband by coupling of the waveguide mode and local surface plasmon resonances in double-layer asymmetric metal grating

Circular dichroism(CD)has shown very interesting possibilities as a means to characterize the chiral signal of a chiral ***,we theoretically demonstrated enhanced and tunable CD in the visible light regime using a composite structure consisting of a double-layer metal grating gaped by a dielectric waveguide *** on the coupling of the waveguide modes and the localized plasmonic resonances,the CD could reach a maximum value as high as 0.52 at635 nm,which is four times higher than the CD value obtained in a conventional double-layer grating without the waveguide coupling ***,the spectral positions of the enhanced CD bands could be easily tuned by controlling the structural *** proposed hybrid double-grating and waveguide structures could have potential applications in chiral selective imaging,sensing and spectroscopy,especially where the transmission measurement is required.

POLY(N-VINYLPYRROLIDONE)-MODIFIED SURFACES REPEL PLASMA PROTEIN ADSORPTION

The present work aimed to study the interaction between plasma proteins and PVP-modified surfaces under more complex protein conditions. In the competitive adsorption of fibrinogen （Fg） and human serum albumin （HSA）, the modified surfaces showed preferential adsorption of HSA. In 100% plasma, the amount of Fg adsorbed onto PVP-modified surfaces was as low as 10 ng/cm2, suggesting the excellent protein resistance properties of the modified surfaces. In addition, immunoblots of proteins eluted from the modified surfaces after plasma contact confirmed that PVP-modified surfaces can repel most plasma proteins, especially proteins that lalav important roles in the nrocess of blood coagulation.
