Surface encapsulation of layered oxide cathode material with NiTiO_(3) for enhanced cycling stability of Na-ion batteries

In Na-ion batteries,O3-type layered oxide cathode materials encounter challenges such as particle cracking,oxygen loss,electrolyte side reactions,and multi-phase transitions during the charge/discharge *** study focuses on surface coating with NiTiO_(3) achieved via secondary heat treatment using a coating precursor and the surface *** in-situ x-ray diffraction(XRD)and differential electrochemical mass spectrometry(DEMS),along with crystal structure characterizations of post-cycling materials,it was determined that the NiTiO_(3) coating layer facilitates the formation of a stable lattice structure,effectively inhibiting lattice oxygen loss and reducing side reaction with the *** enhancement in cycling stability was evidenced by a capacity retention of approximately 74%over 300 cycles at 1 C,marking a significant 30%improvement over the initial ***,notable advancements in rate performance were *** results indicate that a stable and robust surface structure substantially enhances the overall stability of the bulk phase,presenting a novel approach for designing layered oxide cathodes with higher energy density.

Role of A-sites in pyrochlore lanthanide ruthenate for electrocatalysis of oxygen evolution reaction

Developing highly stable and efficient catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is extremely important to sustainable energy conversion and storage,but improved efficiency is largely hindered by sluggish reaction *** and bimetal ruthenates have emerged as one of the promising substitutes to replace single-metal ruthenium or iridium oxides,but the fundamental understanding the role of A-site cations is still ***,a family of lanthanides(Ln=all the lanthanides except Pm)are applied to synthesize pyrochlore lanthanide ruthenates(Ln_(2)Ru_(2)O_(7)),and only Ln_(2)Ru_(2)O_(7)(Ln=Sm,Eu,Gd,Tb,Dy,Ho,Er,Tm,Yb,or Lu)with pure phase can be obtained by the ambient-pressure *** with the perovskite ruthenates(SrRuO_(3))and rutile RuO_(2),the[RuO_(6)]units in these Ln_(2)Ru_(2)O_(7) present the largely distorted configurations and different energy level splitting to prevent the excessive Ru oxidation and dissolution,which leads the primary improvement in the electrocatalytic OER *** the similar crystalline field split states,the charge transfer between[RuO6]units and Ln^(3+)cations also affect catalytic activities,even in the Ln_(2)Ru_(2)O_(7) surface reconstruction during the OER ***,Tb_(2)Ru_(2)O_(7) showed the highest OER performance among all the prepared Ln_(2)Ru_(2)O_(7) with similar morphologies and *** systematic work gives fundamental cognition to rational design of high-performance OER electrocatalysts in proper water electrolysis technologies.

Novel photoresponsive dinuclear nickel catalysts for ethylene(co)polymerization

Compared with the conventional strategies of electronic and/or steric perturbation, catalytic olefin polymerization modulated by light irradiation or metal-metal cooperativity effect is a fascinating challenge that attracts considerable attention in the academic community. In this context, we design a strategy that could employ both effects to influence the polymerization process. Some dinuclear salicylaldimine and α-imino-ketone nickel complexes bearing a stiff-stilbene bridge were prepared, which could transfer between(E)-isomers and(Z)-isomers under ultraviolet irradiation. This isomerization can tune the electronic, steric and metal-metal cooperativity effects of the nickel catalysts. In this way, the catalytic activity, as well as polymer microstructures including molecular weight and branching density can be modulated in ethylene polymerization and copolymerization *** strategy is generally applicable to other olefin polymerization catalytic systems and other types of transition metal mediated catalysis.

Correlation between mechano-electronic features and scattering rates using deformation potential theory

A non-antibiotic organic coating on ZA6-1 surface releasing different concentrations of sodium dodecyl sulphate/levulinic acid for orthopaedic application

Bone implantation surgery is often accompanied by bacterial infection,resulting in infectious bone non-union,pathological fracture and other serious consequences,which will aggravate the pain of patients.A non-antibiotic coating consisting of sodium dodecyl sulphate(SDS)and levulinic acid(LA)with different concentrations was prepared by the authors on the zinc–aluminium alloy(ZA6-1)using a wet chemistry treatment for orthopaedic *** influence of SDS/LA concentrations on the surface morphology,composition and performance of the developed coating was *** results showed that as-prepared coating on a zinc alloy surface could improve the substrate's corrosion resistance and increase the degradation rate from 0.82 to 19.70μm/year upon raising the SDS/LA ***,higher hydrophilicity(100%)and morphology,as well as good cell adhesion and differentiation(ALP>95%for 7 days)were observed on coated zinc *** increased SDS/LA concentration slightly weakens the biocompatibility and enhances the antibacterial performance of coated zinc alloys due to the synergistic effect of SDS/***,the coating comprising 6 wt.%SDS and 9 wt.%LA showed excellent antibacterial action with a high level of biocompatibility,confirming its potential application for orthopaedic implants.

Oscillating paramagnetic Meissner effect and Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ

Superconducting phase transitions in two dimensions lie beyond the description of the Ginzburg-Landau symmetry-breaking paradigm for three-dimensional *** are Berezinskii-KosterlitzThouless（BKT） transitions of paired-electron condensate driven by the unbinding of topological excitations,*** recently discovered monolayers of layered high-transition-temperature（TC）cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ（Bi2212） meant that this 2D superconductor promised to be ideal for the study of unconventional *** inhomogeneity posed challenges for distinguishing BKT physics from charge correlations in this ***,we utilize the phase sensitivity of scanning superconducting quantum interference device microscopy susceptometry to image the local magnetic response of underdoped Bi2212 from the monolayer to the bulk throughout its phase *** monolayer segregates into domains with independent phases at elevated temperatures below *** a single domain,we find that the susceptibility oscillates with flux between diamagnetism and paramagnetism in a Fraunhofer-like pattern up to *** finite modulation period,as well as the broadening of the peaks when approaching Tc from below,suggests well-defined vortices that are increasingly screened by the dissociation of vortex-antivortex plasma through a BKT *** the multilayers,the susceptibility oscillation differs in a small temperature regime below TC,consistent with a dimensional crossover led by interlayer *** as strong evidence for BKT transition in the bulk,we observe a sharp jump in phase stiffness and paramagnetism at small fields just below *** results unify the superconducting phase transitions from the monolayer to the bulk underdoped Bi2212,and can be collectively referred to as the BKT transition with interlayer coupling.

Oral infectious diseases caused by a variety of pathogenic bacteria seriously affect the quality of ***,these diseases remain a clinical challenge because of the lack of simple,safe,and universal *** address these limitations,we synthesize CuO_(x)nanodots(CuO_(x)NDs)with excellent Fenton-like reaction activity and utilize them in the treatment of oral bacterial *** from other complicated approaches,CuO_(x)NDs are rationally prepared using a facile one-pot aqueous *** the presence of H_(2)O_(2),these well-developed CuO_(x)NDs can efficiently catalyze the generation of hydroxyl radicals(·OH)around oral pathogens,leading to the death of various ***,results of biosafety indicate the high biocompatibility and extremely low toxicity of these CuO_(x)*** understanding the admirable in vitro antibacterial effect of CuO_(x)NDs in the presence of H_(2)O_(2),we further explore their in vivo antibacterial performance on several classical animal models including oral mucosal wound model,intragingival bacteria-infected model,and the periodontal infection *** expected,these CuO_(x)NDs with wide-spectrum antibacterial activity can serve as high-performance antibacterial reagents for the treatment of various oral bacterial infections with the help of H_(2)O_(2).In brief,current nanoplatform can act as efficient antibiotics against oral pathogens with broadening the biomedical applications of copper-based nanomaterials.

Ultrasound sensors play an important role in biomedical imaging,industrial nondestructive inspection,*** ultrasound sensors that use piezoelectric transducers face limitations in sensitivity and spatial resolution when miniaturized,with typical sizes at the millimeter to centimeter *** overcome these challenges,optical ultrasound sensors have emerged as a promising alternative,offering both high sensitivity and spatial *** particular,ultrasound sensors utilizing high-quality factor(Q)optical microcavities have achieved unprecedented performance in terms of sensitivity and bandwidth,while also enabling mass production on silicon *** this review,we focus on recent advances in ultrasound sensing applications using three types of optical microcavities:Fabry-Perot cavities,π-phase-shifted Bragg gratings,and whispering gallery mode *** provide an overview of the ultrasound sensing mechanisms employed by these microcavities and discuss the key parameters for optimizing ultrasound ***,we survey recent advances in ultrasound sensing using these microcavity-based approaches,highlighting their applications in diverse detection scenarios,such as photoacoustic imaging,ranging,and particle *** goal of this review is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the latest advances in ultrasound sensing with optical microcavities and their potential for future development in high-performance ultrasound imaging and sensing technologies.

Phase change materials(PCMs)offer a promising solution to address the challenges posed by intermittency and fluctuations in solar thermal ***,for organic solid-liquid PCMs,issues such as leakage,low thermal conductivity,lack of efficient solar-thermal media,and flamma-bility have constrained their broad ***,we present an innova-tive class of versatile composite phase change materials(CPCMs)developed through a facile and environmentally friendly synthesis approach,leveraging the inherent anisotropy and unidirectional porosity of wood aerogel(nanowood)to support polyethylene glycol(PEG).The wood modification process involves the incorporation of phytic acid(PA)and MXene hybrid structure through an evaporation-induced assembly method,which could impart non-leaking PEG filling while concurrently facilitating thermal conduction,light absorption,and ***,the as-prepared wood-based CPCMs showcase enhanced thermal conductivity(0.82 W m^(-1)K^(-1),about 4.6 times than PEG)as well as high latent heat of 135.5 kJ kg^(-1)(91.5%encapsula-tion)with thermal durability and stability throughout at least 200 heating and cooling cycles,featuring dramatic solar-thermal conversion efficiency up to 98.58%.In addition,with the synergistic effect of phytic acid and MXene,the flame-retardant performance of the CPCMs has been significantly enhanced,showing a self-extinguishing ***,the excellent electromagnetic shielding of 44.45 dB was endowed to the CPCMs,relieving contemporary health hazards associated with electromagnetic ***,we capitalize on the exquisite wood cell structure with unidirectional transport inherent in the development of multifunctional CPCMs,showcasing the operational principle through a proof-of-concept prototype system.
