Essential oils of the resins of Pinus brutia and Pinus pinea were evaluated for their biological potential. Essential oils were characterized using GC-MS and GC/FID. In vitro antimicrobial, phytotoxic, antioxidant, and insecticidal activities were carried out using the direct contact and the fumigant assays, respectively. The chemical profile of the essential oils of the resins of P. pinea and P. brutia included mainly α-pinene(21.39% and 25.40%), β-pinene(9.68% and 9.69%), and caryophyllene(9.12% and 4.81%). The essential oils of P. pinea and P. brutia exerted notable antimicrobial activities on Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis, insecticidal activities on Ephestia kuehniella eggs, phytotoxic activities on Lactuca sativa, Lepidium sativum, and Portulaca oleracea, as well as antioxidant potential. Indications of the biological activities of the essential oils suggest their use in the formulation of ecofriendly and biocompatible pharmaceuticals.

This study concerns with the design optimization of steel skeletal structures thereby utilizing both a real-life specification provisions and ready steel profiles named hot-rolled I sections. For this purpose, the enhanced genetic algorithm methodology named EGAwMP is utilized as an optimization tool. The evolutionary search mechanism of EGAwMP is constituted on the basis of generational genetic algorithm (GGA). The exploration capacity of EGAwMP is improved in a way of dividing an entire population into sub-populations and using of a radial basis neural network for dynamically adjustment of EGAwMP’s genetic operator parameters. In order to improve the exploitation capability of EGAwMP, the proposed neural network implementation is also utilized for prediction of more accurate design variables associating with a new design strategy, design codes of which are based on the provisions of LRFD_AISC V3 specification. EGAwMP is applied to determine the real-life ready steel profiles for the optimal design of skeletal structures with 105, 200, 444, and 942 members. EGAwMP accomplishes to increase the quality degrees of optimum designations Furthermore, the importance of using the real-life steel profiles and design codes is also demonstrated. Consequently, EGAwMP is suggested as a design optimization tool for the real-life steel skeletal structures.

This study proposes to optimize the design of geometrically nonlinear dome structures. A new Multiobjective Optimization Algorithm named Pareto Archived Genetic Algorithm (PAGA), which has an ability of integrating the nonlinear structural analysis with the provisions of American Petroleum Institute specification is employed to optimize the design of ellipse and sphere-shaped dome configurations. Thus, it is possible to investigate how the qualities of optimal designations vary considering the shape, size, and topology-related design variables. Furthermore, the computing efficiency of PAGA is evaluated considering six multi-objective optimization algorithms and eight quality measuring indicators. It is shown that PAGA has a capability of both exploring an increased number of parcto solutions and predicting a pareto front with a higher convergence degree. Moreover, the inclusion of shape-related design variables leads to a decrease in both the weights of dome structures and their load-carrying capacities. I Iowever, the designer easily determines the most requested optimal design through the archiving feature of PAGA. Thus, it is also demonstrated that the proposed optimal design procedure increases the correctness degree in the evaluation of optimal dome designs through the tradeoff analysis. Consequently, PAGA is recommended as an optimization tool for the design optimization of geometrically nonlinear dome structures.

The critical size of a finite homogenous slab is investigated for one-speed neutrons using the alternative phase function(AG, Anli-Gungor) in place of the scattering function of the transport equation. First of all, the neutron angular flux expanded in terms of the Chebyshev polynomials of second kind(UN approximation) together with the AG phase function is applied to the transport equation to obtain a criticality condition for the ***, using various values of the scattering parameters, the numerical results for the critical half-thickness of the slab are calculated and they are tabulated in the tables together with the ones obtained from the conventional spherical harmonic(PN) method for comparison. They can be said to be in good accordance with each other.

This research investigates the capability of artificial neural networks to predict vertical total electron content(VTEC)over central Anatolia in *** VTEC dataset was derived from the 19 permanent Global Positioning System(GPS)stations belonging to the Turkish National Permanent GPS NetworkActive(TUSAGA-Aktif)and International Global Navigation Satellite System Service(IGS)*** study area is located at 32.6°E-37.5°E and 36.0°N-42.0°*** the factors inducing VTEC variations in the ionosphere,an artificial neural network(NN)with seven input neurons in a multi-layer perceptron model is *** KURU and ANMU GPS stations from the TUSAGA-Aktif network are selected to implement the proposed neural network *** on the root mean square error(RMSE)results from 50 simulation tests,the hidden layer in the NN model is designed with 41 neurons since the lowest RMSE is achieved in this *** to the correlation coefficients,absolute and relative errors,the NN VTEC provides better predictions for hourly and quarterly GPS *** addition,this paper demonstrates that the NN VTEC model shows better performance than the global IRI2016 *** the spatial contribution of the GPS network to TEC prediction,the KURU station performs better than ANMU station in fitting with the proposed NN model in the station-based comparison.

Diffusion-length calculations of neutrons are performed using the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The neutrons are assumed to move with constant energy in a uniform homogeneous slab. An alternative scattering kernel called an Anl?–Gngr phase function and a traditional Henyey–Greenstein phase function are used for the scattering function in the stationary neutron transport equation. First, analytic expressions and then numerical results are obtained for the diffusion length for various values of the scattering and cross-sectional *** results obtained from both scattering kernels for the diffusion length of the neutrons are given in tables side by side for comparison. The applicability of the method is easily demonstrated by these results.

Nuclear fusion is one of the world's primary energy sources. Studies on the structural fusion materials are very important in terms of the development of fusion technology. Chromium, nickel, zinc, scandium, titanium,and yttrium are important structural fusion materials. In this paper, for use in nuclear science and technology applications, the excitation functions of the ^(50)Cr(d, n)^(51)Mn,^(58)Ni(d, n)^(59)Cu,^(64)Zn(d, n)^(65)Ga,^(66)Zn(d, n)^(67)Ga,^(45)Sc(d,2n)^(45)Ti,^(47)Ti(d, 2n)^(47)V,^(48)Ti(d, 2n)^(48)V, and ^(89)Y(d, 2n)^(89)Zr nuclear reactions were investigated. The calculations that are based on the pre-equilibrium and equilibrium reaction processes were performed using ALICE–ASH computer code. A comparison with geometry-dependent hybrid model has been made using the initial exciton numbers n_0= 4–6 and level density parameters α = A/5; A/8; A/***, the present model-based calculations were compared with the cross sections obtained using the formulae suggested from our previous studies. Furthermore, the cross section results have been compared with TENDL data based on TALYS computer code and the measured data in the literature.

The timely mitigation of the ever-increasing environmental damages induced by the use of fossil fuels created demands by dismissing the activities that irreversibly affect the environment(Kartal et al.,2023;Pata et al.,2023).In addition,there is also a need to encourage and persuade activities that generate low carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions and allow for sustainable *** achieve sustainable development goals(SDGs)and comply with the Paris Agreement's goals and statements,which aim to limit global warming to 1.5 ℃ and demand net-zero emissions by 2050,an alternative to fossil fuels and CO_(2)-emitting power plants is needed(Kartal et al.,2024).This alternative means relying on clean,green,and renewable energy that will eventually con-tribute to a zero-carbon *** kinds of energy include energy produced by hydro,solar,wind,biomass,biofuels,and geothermal production capacities,along with the future of nuclear fusion(Ozcan et al.,2024).However,since not all of these forms of energy have reached their technological maturity and cost-effectiveness status,therefore policymaking institutions should initiate,develop,and align the policies in supporting the production and distribution of green energy.

The aim of this study was to investigate the inactivation effect of organic acids and ultrasound against Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes biofilms on the surface of lettuce leaves and to determine the effect of these inactivation treatments on the quality characteristics of the *** leaves with biofilms formed following inoculation with *** and *** were treated individually or simultaneously with ultrasound and different organic acids(acetic acid,malic acid,citric acid and lactic acid)for periods of 10,30 and 60 *** treatments caused synergistic and antagonistic inactivation of pathogen *** addition,the anti-biofilm effect of combined treatments was found to be higher compared with a single *** an increase in treatment time from 10 min to 60 min,biofilm detachment rate was increased on the surface of the *** reduction in *** and *** biofilms varied from 0.43 to 5.54 log CFU/cm^(2) and from 0.40 to 4.23 log CFU/cm^(2),*** acid and malic acid showed stronger anti-biofilm activities than the other organic *** these results indicate that biofilm inactivation on lettuce samples depends on target microbial species,the type of organic acid,the treatment time,and ***,decontamination treatments for 60 min did not adversely affect the colour,texture or sensory quality of the *** conclusion,the combined treatment of ultrasound and organic acid is suggested as a promising hurdle technology in order to remove pathogen biofilms from fresh produce.
