Electrochromic technology has gained significant attention in various fields such as displays,smart windows,biomedical monitoring,military camouflage,human-machine interaction,and electronic skin due to its ability to provide reversible and fast color changes under applied *** the rapid development and increasing demand for flexible electronics,flexible electrochromic devices(FECDs)that offer smarter and more controllable light modulation hold great promise for practical *** electrochromic material(ECM)undergoing color changes during the electrochemical reactions is one of the key components in electrochromic *** the ECMs,viologens,a family of organic small molecules with 1,1'-disubstituted-4,4'-dipyridinium salts,have garnered extensive research interest,due to their well-reversible redox reactions,excellent electron acceptance ability,and the ability to produce multiple ***,viologen-based FECDs demonstrate color changes in the liquid or semisolid electrolyte layer,eliminating the need for two solid electrodes and thus simplifying the device ***,viologens offer significant potential for the development of FECDs with high optical contrast,fast response speed,and excellent *** review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the progress and perspectives of viologen-based *** begins by summarizing the typical structure and recent exciting developments in viologen-based FECDs,along with their advantages and ***,the review discusses recent advancements in FECDs with additional functionalities such as sensing,photochromism,and energy ***,the remaining challenges and potential research directions for the future of viologen-based FECDs are addressed.

To the Editor:A 62-year-old woman presented to the dermatology department with a 5-month history of multiple painless cutaneous abscesses and ulcers[Figure 1A],occurring 1 month after a transvaginal hysterectomy due to uterine *** general condition was good before and after the surgery,with no abnormal physical signs apart from *** reported no fever,night sweat,cough,or abdominal pain,but 10 kg *** has no history of diabetes,autoimmune diseases,or chronic infectious *** was no similar illness in her family.

Dear Editor,Extramammary Paget disease(EMPD)is a rare adenocarcinoma that originates in the apocrine gland-rich skin and usually affects the perineal skin(primary EMPD)or represents the intraepithelial spread of an underlying visceral carcinoma(secondary EMPD).Approximately half of EMPD cases are confined to the epidermis,which was defined as intraepithelial EMPD.

Differences in skin Properties of Korean Women at the Initial Aging Phase

Many studies on aging have focused on evaluating differences between older and younger people, but only a few have focused on differences in skin properties among subjects from the same age group according to their skin aging status. In this study, we evaluated the facial skin condition and life style factors in 110 Korean women aged 25 to 35 in an attempt to evaluate factors which may affect the skin aging status in the initial aging phase. The facial skin condition of 110 healthy Korean women was assessed over two successive 6-month periods, summer and winter. Using clinical assessments including aging, wrinkles and skin’s elasticity values, the subjects were divided into 7 groups. Then, various facial skin conditions and life style factors were examined between a severe aging group and mild aging group. In the severe aging group, the mean value pH was lower and the mean value of water content was slightly lower than that of women in the mild aging group. Also, the seasonal site variation in water content and sebum secretion level were significantly higher in the severe aging group than in the mild aging group. Topical sunscreen using percentage was not significantly different between the two groups. However, the number of cosmetic subject use was slightly higher in the mild aging group than in the severe aging group. The study suggested that there were several differences in skin characteristics between women in the severe aging group and in the mild aging group at the initial aging phase. Seasonal site variation between cheek and forehead was the most dominant differences. We also considered that life style factors such as cosmetic use could affect skin aging status.

Gold Standard for skin Cancer Treatment: Surgery (Mohs) or Microscopic Molecular-Cellular Therapy (Curaderm)?

Non-melanoma skin cancers or keratinocyte cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma make up approximately 80% and 20% respectively, of skin cancers with the 6 million people that are treated annually in the United States. 1 in 5 Americans and 2 in 3 Australians develop skin cancer by the age of 70 years and in Australia it is the most expensive, amassing $1.5 billion, to treat cancers. Non-melanoma skin cancers are often self-detected and are usually removed by various means in doctors’ surgeries. Mohs micrographic surgery is acclaimed to be the gold standard for the treatment of skin cancer. However, a novel microscopic molecular-cellular non-invasive topical therapy described in this article, challenges the status of Mohs procedure for being the acclaimed gold standard.

The Value of Excipients and the Required Understanding of the Biological System in Product Development: An Impactful Example of Curaderm, a Topical skin Cancer Treatment

The incidences of nonmelanoma skin cancer are increasing worldwide, and the ongoing war on its treatment necessitates the development of effective and non-invasive methods. Through basic and clinical research, non-invasive treatments like Curaderm have been developed, leading to improved quality of life for patients. Excipients, previously considered inactive ingredients, play a crucial role in enhancing the performance of topical formulations. The development of Curaderm emphasizes the importance of understanding the interactions between active ingredients, excipients, and the biological system to create effective and affordable pharmaceutical formulations. The systematic approach taken in the development of Curaderm, starting from the observation of the anticancer activity of natural solasodine glycosides and progressing through toxicological and efficacy studies in cell culture, animals, and humans, has provided insights into the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of solasodine glycosides. It is crucial to determine these pharmacological parameters within the skin’s biological system for maximal effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a skin cancer treatment. Curaderm, as a topical treatment for nonmelanoma skin cancer, offers benefits beyond those obtained from other topical treatments, providing hope for improved quality of life for patients.

Unique Clinical Features of Curaderm when Treating skin Cancers

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer and the most frequently occurring form of all cancers. Conventional treatments to remove or destroy basal cell carcinoma are indiscriminate and also remove or destroy normal skin cells resulting in compromised cosmetic outcomes. Consequences of these treatments include body-image issues, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and poorer quality of social and family life. A progressive topical cream formulation, Curaderm, containing the natural BEC glycoalkaloids, have shown to have advantages over conventional treatments. However, comprehensive clinical features of the skin cancer lesions during treatment with Curaderm have to date not been reported. This report shows that using unpublished data from a large number of patients with varying sizes, types and locations of basal cell carcinomas when treated with Curaderm in a phase 3 trial, an initial increase in size of the lesions occur, followed by a reverse course, leading to complete removal of the skin cancer. The specificity and mode of action of Curaderm explains the superior cosmetic outcomes when compared with conventional therapies.

Painful stimuli elicit first-line reflexive defensive reactions and,in many cases,also evoke second-line recuperative behaviors,the latter of which reflects the sensing of tissue damage and the alleviation of *** lateral parabrachial nucleus(lPBN),composed of external-(elPBN),dorsal-(dlPBN),and central/superior-subnuclei(jointly referred to as slPBN),receives sensory inputs from spinal projection neurons and plays important roles in processing affective information from external threats and body integrity ***,the organizational rules of lPBN neurons that provoke diverse behaviors in response to different painful stimuli from cutaneous and deep tissues remain *** this study,we used region-specific neuronal depletion or silencing approaches combined with a battery of behavioral assays to show that slPBN neurons expressing substance P receptor(NK1R)(lPBNNK1R)are crucial for driving pain-associated self-care behaviors evoked by sustained noxious thermal and mechanical stimuli applied to skin or bone/muscle,while elPBN neurons are dispensable for driving such ***,lPBNNK1R neurons are specifically required for forming sustained somatic pain-induced negative teaching signals and aversive memory but are not necessary for fear-learning or escape behaviors elicited by external ***,both lPBNNK1R and elPBN neurons contribute to chemical irritant-induced nocifensive *** results reveal the functional organization of parabrachial substrates that drive distinct behavioral outcomes in response to sustained pain versus external danger under physiological conditions.

Wearable ultrasensitive and rapid human physiological monitoring based on microfiber Sagnac interferometer

High-sensitive and fast-responding flexible strain sensors are essential for the smart wearable devices that precisely and dynamically perceive the weak deformations induced by human physiological signals. Here, a flexible strain sensor via polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)-encapsulated microfiber Sagnac interferometer was designed and prepared for monitoring the human pulse signals and sound vibrations. The sensor achieved a record-breaking sensitivity(gauge factor, GF = 9977) and an extremely low detection limit(0.00025%) due to the strong polarization-dependent coupling effect in the microfiber coupler and the polarization-mixing effect in the Sagnac loop. The relative intensity demodulation method also enabled a fast response time of 10 μs. The wearable pulse measurements were implemented by attaching this flexible strain sensor directly to human skin at various locations and the waveform details were accurately captured. Taking advantage of the ultra-high sensitivity and fast response performance of the prepared sensor, the real-time dynamic acquisition of the underwater weak signal, such as the hydro-acoustic waves with a wide range of 20 Hz–16.86 k Hz, has been demonstrated. These initial results pave the way for a new and innovative category of underwater wearable devices with rapid detection of human physiological signals and weak environmental vibrations.
