Background Malaria remains a leading public health problem ***-infections with other pathogens complicate its diagnosis and may modify the disease’s clinical course and *** in malaria clinical presentation with other infections and overlapping endemicity result in underdiagnosis of co-infections and increased ***,the aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of viral and bacterial pathogens among diagnosed malaria patients in malaria-endemic areas in *** A cross-sectional study was conducted on malaria patients attending three reference medical centres in Ciudad bolivar,*** evaluation and laboratory tests for dengue virus(DEnV),chikungunya virus(CHIKV),viral hepatitis[hepatitis A virus(HAV),hepatitis B virus(HBV),and hepatitis C virus(HCV)],and leptospirosis(LEP)were performed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** exposure to these pathogens was defined by the presence of specific immunoglobulin(Ig)G,and co-infection or recent exposure(CoRE)was determined by the presence of specific IgM alone or IgM+*** analysis considered descriptive *** distribution was statistically evaluated using Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and the necessary comparison *** ratio(OR)for complications was determined according to CoRE presence with a 95%confidence interval(CI).Results A total of 161 malaria patients were studied,66%infected with Plasmodium vivax,27%with ***,and 7.5%harboured ***/*** mixed *** exposure to DEnV(60%)and CHIKV(25%)was *** was confirmed in 55 of the 161 malaria patients(34%)and were more frequent in ***(49%)than in ***(29%)and mixed malaria patients(25%)(OR=2.43,95%CI:1.39–4.25,P=0.018).The most frequent CoRE was DEnV(15%),followed by HAV(12%),HBV(6.2%),CHIKV(5.5%),and LEP(3.7%);HCV CoRE was *** malaria was significantly more frequent in patients with CoRE(56%)than those without CoR

Multiple Limit Cycles in an Immune System

The nonlinear oscillatory phenomenon has been observed in the system of immune response, which corresponds to the limit cycles in the mathematical models. We prove that the system simulating an immune response studied by Huang has at least three limit cycles in the system. The conditions for the multiple limit cycles are useful in analyzing the nonlinear oscillation in immune response.

Summary of Useful Concepts About the Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Protections

This paper summarizes some useful concepts about the coordination of directional overcurrent *** following key topics are described:the analysis of systems in a ring configuration and only one source of short-circuit currents;the impossibility of obtaining selectivity for all the possible system configurations with multiple sources;the need for inverse functions in order to obtain selectivity in systems with multiple sources;the coordination with protections for radial loads;the coordination between instantaneous and delayed functions;the considerations to select the pickup values;the influence of contributions from motors to short circuit currents;the transient configurations due to sequential trips at both line ends;the influence of dynamic behavior of overcurrent functions;the influence of stability constraints;other specific considerations for ground functions;some specific considerations for systems with distributed generation.A summary of these points and their effect on the coordination of directional overcurrent protections is not available in the current *** novel description should facilitate the inclusion of these key points in research and coordination studies related to these protective functions.

Utilization of winery wastes for Trichoderma viride biocontrol agent production by solid state fermentation

Biocontrol agents are safe and environmental friendly alternatives for pesticides in agriculture application. Trichoderma viride WEBL0703 performed a high level of antagonistic activity toward a broad spectrum of phytopathogens and was determined as a biocontrol agent, which was produced by solid state fermentation using grape marc and wine lees. The maximum yield of T. viride conidia was up to 6.65 × 10^9 CFU/g initial dry substrate （IDS） after 10 d fermentation. As important enzymes for protecting plants from disease, chitinase, β-glucanase, and pectinase yields were 47.8 U/g IDS, 8.32 U/g IDS and 9.83 U/g IDS, respectively. These results show that it is feasible to convert winery wastes to a value-added and environmental friendly biocontrol agent.

Encapsulated Water Hammer: Theoretical/Experimental Study

Water hammer phenomenon involves the transformation of kinetic energy in pressure energy, this transformation occurs as the fluid conditions change inside the pipe in quite a short time. Industry requires to affront frequent flow interruptions in pipe systems due to the closing of valves or stopping of pumping equipment. This phenomenon can initiate serious damages like destruction of the pipe system involving leakage of the working fluid to the environment. If the system operates in a fragile environment, as in cold regions, concern about the consequences of leakage increases due to the variation of physical properties of fluid as well as the pipe material as a function of the temperature. Water hammer effects can be controlled focusing efforts on reducing the pressure increment that takes place once the phenomenon is presented. Some methods try to reduce the time of closure or the rate of change before the closure using special valves, others install additional elements to absorb the pressure surge and dissipate energy, others install relief valves to release the pressure, and others try to split the problem is smaller sections by installing check valves with dashpot or non-return valves. Splitting the pipeline into shorter sections is often used to help preventing the pipeline length of water falling back after a pump stops. In this paper the numerical results of maximum and minimum pressure values at both ends of a closed section are compared to experimental data. The numerical results follow the experimental trends.
